DISTRICT ANNOUNCES NEW DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT
Aiken County Public Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Shawn Foster as its new
Deputy Superintendent, replacing Mr. David Caver following his planned
retirement from the District in late June of this year.
“I’m not only honored, I’m humbled as well,” Dr. Foster said. “It’s humbling to
know that I’m looked at as someone with the skills and knowledge Aiken County
Schools wanted to support its continued progress with student achievement.”
Dr. Foster is currently serving as the Director of Student and Administrative
Services for Spartanburg School District 7. He has state certification in the areas
of superintendent, secondary supervisor, and guidance and counseling,
Masters’ Degrees in the Arts and Education, as well as a Doctorate in Education,
and experience as a Director, Principal, and Guidance Counselor.
“One thing most people would tell you about me,” Foster continued, “is that
students come first.” It was Aiken County’s history of student-centered decisions
that drew Foster to the District. “Administration and Aiken County’s School Board
seem to have a shared interest in what’s best for children and support those
things.”
A community-focused leader, Dr. Foster is a member of numerous civic and
professional organizations. He attended the State Department of Education’s
School Executive Leadership Institute at the Center for Creative Leadership in
Greensboro, North Carolina. Dr. Foster is a recent recipient of the Inez M.
Tenenbaum Leadership Award and was a nominee for the United Way’s Young
Philanthropist Mentor of the Year Award.
Dr. Foster’s move to Aiken County will mean a new home for his family, including
his wife of ten years and their two children, ages seven and four. “From the time
I walked through the doors of Aiken’s District office, from the receptionist to the
individuals I interviewed with, it felt real. It felt good.”
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Foster to Aiken County Public Schools,”
Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Everitt said. “He comes to us with a wide variety of
experiences and expertise. He will be a great addition to our team.”

A start date for the District’s incoming Deputy Superintendent will be
announced in the coming days, hopefully allowing Dr. Foster to work alongside
the District’s retiring Deputy Superintendent Mr. David Caver for a few weeks.
“We’re expecting a smooth transition,” Dr. Everitt said.
“I’ve heard many wonderful things about the district,” commented Dr. Foster.
“I’m looking forward to joining you in the great things happening in Aiken
County.”
