Classical Body Massage
Equipment:







two sheets and a duvet(a cover)/two large towels
a small towel
a cap for hair/ a towel for hair
a cream / a lotion cup
a cream / a lotion cup for customer’s jewellery
supporting pillow/a face cushion
a heat lamp or /a heat cover
Before the treatment:





Put on some back ground music suitable for the treatment and the situation. Preferably calming music.
Get all your equipment ready for the treatment
Check the customer’s basic information card and do a body analysis.
Ask the customer to lie face down on the treatment bed/chair
Clean the customer’s feet.
NOTABLE:

Warm, fresh and calm treatment environment.
That the customer is feeling and positioned comfortable (use of the supporting pillows)
Masseur’s own working posture and ergonomics.

1. Massaging the back side of the feet (3 times)
1. Effleurage both soles of the feet at the same time from the toes to the heels
2. Friction the Achilles tendon area with a grip with thumb and index finger and continue to effleurage to
the calf.
3. Effleurage with fan-like and upwards strokes on the customer’s back side of the kneecap.

4. Effleurage customer’s left back thigh upwards and return along the sides with vibration movements.
5. Make
a) petrissage movements (press and lift)
b) kneading and
c) pincement on the right outer thigh and the left inner thigh.
6. Make the finishing effleurage.
Change side and repeat movements 4-6.

2. Massaging buttocks and back
7. Effleurage with fan-like and outwards the area of the musculus gluteus maximus – first the right side and
then the left side.
8. Friction both of the buttocks simultaneously with knuckles starting from middle and moving outwards
in three parts to cover the whole area.
9. Effleurage along the sides of the spine from the os coccyx until the 7th vertebra, around the shoulders to
musculus deltoideus and return with curved eight-shaped movements to the starting point.

10. Petrissage the customer’s left side, up and down.
11. Make firm pushing strokes with your palms from the side of the spine upwards towards the sides.
12. Change to the left side of the customer and repeat movements 10 – 12 for the right side of the
customer so that you will do the massaging for the far side of the customer looking from your
perspective. [Petrissage the customer’s left side, up and down. Make firm pushing strokes with your
palms from the side of the spine upwards towards the sides. ]

13. Stroke with flat thumbs the edge of the musculus trapezius from the neck towards the shoulders and
proceed with fan-like strokes over to the other side of the 7th vertebra.
14. Friction with thumbs simultaneously around the shoulder blades. Start from the level of 7th vertebra
and move towards the armpits.
15. Simultaneously with both hands make kneading movements for the whole shoulder area until the upper
arm.

16. Use index and middle fingers to make firm pushing strokes for the edge of the shoulder blade starting
from lower parts and working the way up.

18. Friction circular movements with your knuckles from the middle of the upper back to the sides.

19. 1) Make large circles simultaneously with both hands so that there’s some space between the circles. Do
it first on the left side.
2) Roll one line at a time the whole area from the lower back to the top of the back in three lines on the
left side. CHANGE THE SIDE and repeat on the customer’s right side.
20. Use your palms to make long stretching movements first for the right side of the back and then for the
left side. Finish with two stretches crossing across the back. Start the movements from the middle
crossing your hands and stretch long to the shoulder and buttocks.

21. Friction up the neck towards the hairline using a pincer grip (a grip with thumb and index finger).
Support with your other hand at the hairline.
22. Knead the neck lightly with both hands taking turns.
23. Use your sides of the hands for tapotement on customer’s upper back.
24. Finish with calm effleurages.

3. Massaging the front side of the feet
1. Effleurage the customer’s metatarsus with oval stroking. Start from the ankle and move towards
the toes with four oval moves, make the 5th effleurage movement over and across the whole
metatarsus.
2. Carry out pushing strokes in between the bones of the ossa metatarsalis – two spans at a time.
3. Do the same for the sole of the foot that you did for the metatarsus. [Carry out pushing strokes
in between the bones]

4. Make alternating stroking on the longitudinal arch from the sole to the heel.
5. Knead the heel with your palm.
6. Friction simultaneously with the fingertips of both of your hands around the malleolus medialis
and malleolus lateralis .

7. Effleurage lightly the area of the lower leg from ankle to the knee.
8. Carry out petrissage with for the calf muscle using your whole palm. Proceed from the knee to
the ankle in a special rhythm 1-2-3-4-5. First the outer and then the inner side.

10. Roll up the leg with both hands and return back with light rolling

11. Tap with both fists in turns up and down the calf muscle.
12. Effleurage up the shin so that your fingers slide along the musculus gastrocnemius (referring to the
bulging shape of the calf), thumbs on the shin bone.
13. Straighten your customer’s leg and make the fluids move through the pincement of the knee’s
inner side.
14. Finish with calm effleurages for the whole leg.
15. Repeat the movements 23-36 for the customer’s left foot and leg.

16. Continue effleuraging customer’s right thigh upwards and return along the sides with vibration
movements.
17. Make
a) petrissage movements (press and lift)
b) kneading and
c) pincement on the right outer and inner thigh.

18. Make the finishing effleurages on the left thigh sideways and parallel to the musculus sartorius muscle.
Change to the other side of the customer.
3. Massaging the hands (start with right hand)
1. Support the customer’s right hand and carry out oval effleurage movements on the back of the hand.
Start from the wrist and proceed towards the fingers.

2. Support the customer’s hand with both hands and at the same time carry out strokes in between the
bones of the ossa metacarpalis – two spans at a time.
3. Then turn the hand so that the palm side is upwards and repeat the movement 1 [Support the
customer’s right hand and carry out oval effleurage movements on the back of the hand. Start from the
wrist and proceed towards the fingers].

4. Support the customer’s hand with both hands and do pushing stroking with thumbs working in turns to
the customer’s palm.
5. Massage the ball of the thumb.
6. Effleurage the forearm with both hands starting from the wrist and working the way up to the bend of
the arm.

7. Carry out wringing/twisting massaging for the both inner and outer sides of the forearm.
8. Make knead movements around the elbow.
9. Effleurage customer’s upper arm (brachium) upwards and return along the sides with vibration
movements.

10. Make
a) petrissage movements (press and lift)
b) kneading and
c) pincement for the upper arm. Effleurage.
11. Massage the left hand with the same movements, movements 1-10.
5. Massaging the décolleté and stomach.
12. Effleurage across the chest musculus pectoralis major using both of your hands simultaneously.
Start above the sternum, between breasts and move forward around the shoulders. At the back
side proceed along the spine until the base of the skull by stretching slowly.

13. Effleurage on the fold of the armpit (Plica axillaris).
14. Friction the musculus trapezius with your knuckles from the shoulder towards the neck.
15. Make calming effleurage movements like in movement 51 [Effleurage across the chest muscles
musculus pectoralis major using both of your hands simultaneously. Start above the sternum,
between breasts and move forward around the shoulders. At the back side proceed along the
back bone until the base of the skull by stretching slowly].
16. Finish with pressing on shoulders for calming effect.

17. Effleurage with fan-like movements parallel to the bowel.
18. Use fingers to do petrissage that is also parallel to the bowel.
19. Effleurage with long movements on the sides. Start from the back, one side at the time. In the
end do it for both sides at the same time.
20. Let the customer rest for 10 minutes.
