Research grants to students
The African Network for Agriculture, Agroforestry and Natural Resources Education (ANAFE) has been
implementing a programme titled Strengthening Africa Strategic Agricultural Capacity for Impact for
Development (SASACID). A key objective of SASACID programme is to support research in
agriculture, agroforestry and natural resources by allocating grants to deserving students drawn
from Pilot institutions. So far, 127 students from different PIs have benefited from research
grants to undertake research at different degree levels. Out of this, 9 were supported at diploma
level while 43 and 75 students were supported at Bachelors and Masters level respectively. This
is indicated in the table below:

One of the key considerations in allocating the grants was gender parity, which is one of
ANAFE’s key operation principles. The male to female ratio in grant allocation stands at 58% to
42 % respectively as indicated in the table below:
