FROM THE OFFICE
Dues Reminder, your second half dues payment is due June 1st and is late July 1st.
Payments received after July 1st will have a late fee.
I have had some members asking about people that would like to trail ride with other
members. If you are interested, there is a message board by the main office restrooms
for members to post messages and sale items. You can also email the office and I can
post the information for you. Trail riding with a partner is a good thing.
Barn Renters: The next lockout will be for RHANW. Competitors will start arriving
on Wednesday, June 17th, and will be leaving on Sunday, June 21st. If you leave your
horse locked out, your stall will be sanitized. If you choose to put your horse back in, it
will not be done.
Please check your stall floor to make sure it is safe. Also please have your horse locked
out and your stalls clean by 8:00 am on Wednesday, June 17th, so they can be bedded
for the show. We are seeing a lot of uneven floor mats and some holes in the stalls. We
need to keep our stalls safe for our horses as well as guests’ horses.
*Stalls and paddocks must be cleaned daily May 1st thru
October 31st, to help with fly control.*
Please slow down. The speed limit is 10 1/2 mph for all vehicles.
Ground Rule #13: No horses are to be left unattended in the barn aisles.
Ground Rule#18: All equipment shall be returned to the proper storage area
immediately after use.
That being said, would whoever borrowed the large yellow and black tape measure
from the office, please return it. If you see equipment where it does not belong, please
bring it to the office or let me know where it is, and I will try to get it back to where it
belongs.
New Members: Michelle Bermingham and Terry Mongrain family membership
If people want to contact the members of the Grounds Committee about grounds
issues, they should contact the following committee members: Tammy Wheeler,
Angella Kirschner, Julie Sauve, Craig Tolliver, and Deb Walk.
BARRELS
We are having great turnouts for all the division events
and outside rentals. This sure helps sustain our club.
I am having a contest to help get the name of the
remaining Princess Appleatchee. It was the year 1974.
The first person to contact Susan in the office will win a
prize.
Have you seen the great job last year’s Queen, Michaela Lantzy, has done organizing
the past Queens on the Appleatchee website (Appleatcheeriders.com)? (They used to be
called Princesses.) Representing Appleatchee as Queen has been a great experience for
these girls, and certainly an asset to our club.
It looks like our 7th Annual Futurity was a success, and it put some money in the bank.
We are looking at changing our race next year to another format, to see if we can attract
more barrel racers. We had a good turnout for the Mother’s day race WBRA rental. We
also have their August race and their Finals in October, so come out and support our
members.

We have some kids that are really getting good and it’s so much fun to see them
improve. Enjoy your horses in this great weather!—Julie
ROPING
Our Memorial weekend roping was very fun, and extremely relaxed. We ran a total of
903 teams throughout the weekend. Although our overall team numbers were down,
our division had decided at the beginning of the year that we were going to raise our
rates. By increasing the roping entry fees we anticipated a few less teams, saving cattle
and possibly getting done a little earlier each day while still profiting the same all in the
end. Needless to say, the weekend was successful! We had a nice group of ropers. Just
about everyone was curious and
responsive to having a new member of
our team (Kim) mingling and enforcing
rules. Thank you Appleatchee Board and
Kim Lightfoot for being our event
referee. You were awesome!!
We gave out several prizes this past
weekend, congrats to all our winners.
The High Money saddle winners for the
weekend:
*Div #2 & under is Craig Buckley
of Canada
*Div #2.5 & up is Eli Knapp of Brewster
June 7th ACTRA has sponsored a saddle for a 1-day High Money prize. This will go to
the person that wins the most money on June 7th. This starts at 11am, please feel free to
join in on the fun.
Thank you to all of Appleatchee members & staff, we get a lot of compliments on our
beautiful facility, and even though it’s not said enough, all your patience is appreciated!
The roping club will continue to practice every Tuesday and Thursday night @ 7pm.
The fee is only $10 for members and $15 for non-members to practice. We would like
to encourage everyone that is interested in exposing their horses to cattle, please to
come join us.
We are having Team Sorting practice on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month.
Appleatchee members pay $15, and non-members $20. Practice starts at 6PM for
setup. Everyone gets a full 2 minutes in the pen sorting, with a minimum of 3 times
each. See the Sorting Division report below for more information, and “Like”
Appleatchee Riders Team Sorting on Facebook for updates.

TEAM SORTING
We’ll continue our monthly sorting competitions June 21 using the new 2D
format, with a ride-off at the end, as we did in April. After the regular 6 rides, the
riders are ranked by total number of clean runs, then number of cows sorted, then
fastest time. The group is split in half into a top 1st division and a 2nd lower division
(hence the 2D or 2 Divisions). The top 6-10 riders (depends on how many riders we
have) in each division are randomly paired to compete against each other within their
division in a ride-off to see who wins the money in each division. The 2D format allows
novice riders in division 2 to go home with some cash, not just the top riders! The more
riders we have the larger the pots will be, so come on down to ride.
Competitions for the rest of the year are July 19, August 9, September 20,
October 12, November 15, December 13. We will hand out the winter prizes
during the June competition. We will continue to practice through the summer on
the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month in the roping arena.
We had a great Roger Braa clinic May 9-10 – to bad for
you if you missed it. Roger had us work on lots of new
techniques to improve our 2-man and 3-man games. We got
tons of practice too--pretty much sorted all Saturday
afternoon and all day Sunday.
On June 13-14 we will host an open 3-man 8-go open competition. Last year
we had 69 riders of all riding levels and from all over the northwest, and paid out over
$12,000 in cash prizes. Our own Jamie Judd won over $800! The entry fee is $200
with an optional $100 buyback competition after the 4th round (for those with a dirty
run that takes them out of the main competition). If you are thinking of entering, I
recommend you have some experience with 3-man sorting so you know the roles of the
three different riders on the team. You can get details and an entry form on the
Appleatchee Team Sorting Division webpage or by emailing me ([email protected]).

See you in the sorting pen! --John
PERFORMANCE
The Reining Horse Association of the North
West competition featured several of our
members. If you didn't get to see Connor
Beck on Stop Acholic, you missed a great
performance by both. You can see it on
Utube, or check the Appleatchee website.
As you read this the Appleatchee
Dressage Show may be going on. This
two separate shows and is in the Indoor
Arena. We're expecting a large turnout,
so stop by and watch for a bit.

During the summer, this clinic is taking
place outside, so anyone not attending
that wants to jump can use the Indoor
Arena at the regularly scheduled Monday
night. At the clinic there were several
standards and poles
left to set up a course. Again, if you are interested, please contact Harden at 6621169 (h) or 679-0328 (c) or at [email protected].
Jill Seely has two more clinics set for the summer, and spots are available by
contacting Brigitte at 663-6188 or [email protected]

Sometimes I love something so much
that it seems to consume me. Having an
addictive personality, it is not always
easy to "let it go", and like a dog with a
bone, I can just worry the heck out of just
about anything. So, when things come
back to bite me in the butt, and believe
me they do, what I want to do is beat
myself up because I did it wrong. Or did
too much of it. Today, instead, I think I'll
go play with my horse. That ALWAYS
makes me feel better.
Make time for that ride, JoAnne

PONY CLUB
Horse On Course Pony Club held a Games Rally weekend event on May 2-1, at
Appleatchee.
This year has seen the biggest turnout with 40 riders aged from 4-18 years old. They
came from Walla Walla, Tri-Cities, Yakima, Ellensburg, Spokane Northwest Region,
Oregon State and Wenatchee.
Thank you to Appleatchee for letting our Pony Club use the facility. Appleatchee is a
great and safe environment for our members.
If anyone has questions regarding Horse On Course Wenatchee Pony Club, please
contact France Bedard at [email protected].
Do you have news?
Horsefeathers is not just for Division reports. Do you have a new horse? How about
