Divine Liturgy Notes
Just as the 40 day period preceding Holy Week was designated for fasting and
self reflection in preparation to meet our Lord and participate in His passion,
crucifixion, burial and resurrection, so also the 40 day period following Easter
(from Easter Sunday until the feast of the Ascension on Thurs. May 14th) is
designated as a period of FEASTING in remembrance of the time that our Lord
remained on Earth after His Resurrection. During this period, in fact, fasting is
forbidden.

Kiss of Peace: May be exchanged with a simple bow to the left then the right
shoulder of the other person whole placing your right hand over your heart or with
a kiss on each cheek in the same way.

Kissing the Gospel: At the end of the Service everyone should proceed to the
front of the Church to kiss the Gospels Book as our final expression of witness before leaving to return to the world of our daily lives and say to the Priest: "May the
Lord remember you in all your sacrifices." (Divine Liturgies) To which he will
respond: "May God grant you according to your heart."

Mas: That "part and potion" of the Holy Sacrifice which is taken and given to
those who were unable to receive Holy Communion, so that they too might share in
the love and union of our family in Christ.
When distibuting Mas, the giver will say:
May this be your part and portion of the Divine Liturgy

Gospel Reading
(John 1:1-17)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without
him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the
life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did
not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a
witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not
the light, but he came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone,
was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through
him; yet the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave
power to become children of God, who were born, not of blood or of the will of the
flesh or of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and lived among us,
and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.
(John testified to him and cried out, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after
me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.' ") From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth
came through Jesus Christ.

Epistle Reading
(James 3:1-12)
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, for you know that we
who teach will be judged with greater strictness. For all of us make many mistakes.
Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is perfect, able to keep the whole body in
check with a bridle. If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we
guide their whole bodies. Or look at ships: though they are so large that it takes strong
winds to drive them, yet they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the
pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits. How
great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed
among our members as a world of iniquity; it stains the whole body, sets on fire the
cycle of nature, and is itself set on fire by hell. For every species of beast and bird, of
reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no
one can tame the tongue--a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the
Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God. From
the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be
so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and brackish water?
Can a fig tree, my brothers and sisters, yield olives, or a grapevine figs? No more can
salt water yield fresh.

I believe, O Lord, and I confess that You are in truth the Christ, the Son of the
Living God who came into the world to save sinners of whom I am chief.
Also, I believe that what I am now to receive is truly Your immaculate Body
and precious Blood.
Gospel Commentary
O Son of God, receive me today as a partaker of Your mystical supper. For I
shall not betray Your Mysteries to Your enemies, nor like Judas will I give
You a kiss.
The first Sunday after Easter is called “New Sunday,” because it is the first Sunday of
the new creation realized through the glorious Resurrection of our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. This week analyze your life and decided if you truly want to be a part of
this new creation in our Lord.
But like the thief will I confess You and say,
Remember me O Lord when You come into Your Kingdom. Amen

power in prayer. During this Divine Liturgy and throughout this next week your prayers

For more young men to hear the Lord’s call to service into the Holy Priesthood
of the Armenian Church; For other young men and women also to hear God’s call to serve
His Church. For Unity of the Armenian Church and of all Churches. PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS
Home Blessing and Visitations: According to the traditions of the Armenian Church,
Home Blessings are performed each year after the Nativity and the Resurrection of Christ,
as well as on other joyous occasions, such as moving into a new home. If any wishes to
have their home blessed, please contact Der Krikor at 774-292-9116 or by email at

Bible Study: Will meet this Tuesday, April 14th. The readings for next Sunday’s Badarak
are: 1Peter 2:1-10 and John 2:23-3:12.
Genocide Commemoration: On Friday, April 24 our parish is organizing a bus so that we
can participate in the Boston area commemoration of the Genocide centennial. The bus will
leave from Holy Translators to the State House at Noon and return from the Heritage Park
around 5:00pm. This Coach Bus can accommodate 57 people and it is free. The cost has
been underwritten. However, we need to have firm commitments. Please email Stepan
Piligian ASAP at [email protected] if you plan to use the bus.
Yughakin Offering is a special offering made twice a year at Christmas & Easter to help
defray the operational costs of our Parish. "Yughakin" was the price for the oil used to light
the lamps of the Church. Though we no longer need oil we still have many operational costs
and this offering made during these two feasts is another way for us to show our commitment to this most worthy cause. During this Season of giving, let us remember our Church
with a special gift. We need your continued support. Envelopes are available as you leave
Church.
Special Hokehankist on Mothers Day: We will offer special “Hokehankist” prayers for all
deceased mothers, grandmothers and godmothers on Mothers Day, May 10th. Please email
your request to [email protected] or fill out a Requiem form at fellowship. Donations may be sent to the Church or brought with you and given to Marco Ciaffi. Memo:

Men’s Fellowship Night will take place on Thursday Evening, May 28th starting at
6:30PM. See Anthony Barsamian or Karnig Durgarian for more information.
Golf Tournament: This year’s tournament will take place on Monday, June 8th. At the
Sandy Burr Golf Course, Wayland MA. The golf tournament is a major fund raiser for our
Parish. The committee needs help; Raffle ticket sellers, sponsors, golfers and workers.
Anyone interested in helping out please see Der Krikor or Karen Durgarian.
Membership Dues/Stewardship: Please remember to renew your 2015 membership. We
ask that you also fulfill your stewardship obligations in a timely manner. Our goal is to have
100% participation in stewardship this year
Fellowship Sign-up: Volunteers are needed to sponsor and work at our Coffee Fellowship
Hours after Church as well as make donations toward the expense of the Altar Flowers and
Candles. A sign-up sheet is available at Fellowship.

BEFORE BADARAK - WE PREPARE OURSELVES
We prepare ourselves for the Divine Liturgy both physically and spiritually. The custom of the Armenian Church is to fast from all food and drink from the time we wake
up on Sunday morning until we have received Holy Communion. Fasting helps us to
focus our minds and hearts on the spiritual nourishment we will receive in Holy Communion. Exceptions are made, of course, for young children and for those who, for
health reasons, must eat in the morning. They may have a light breakfast and still
come forward for Holy Communion. Spiritual preparation for the Badarak is by
means of prayer. Participation in Badarak itself is part of this spiritual preparation.
Therefore, it is important to be at Badarak from the beginning.
