Arroyo Band Boosters Meeting Minutes
May 6, 2015
Meeting called to order @ 6:10 p.m. by Rose Lazo

Treasurer’s Report: Marcela Castro
Beginning Balance: $7,591.35
Total Deposits: $2,634.20
Total Disbursements: $5,316.32
Ending Balance: $4,909.23
Band President: Nicky Chow (banquet update)
● Leadership groups providing weekly updates on banquet decorations; most will be finished
by next Sat.; all groups must transport their decorations themselves to the banquet
● Historians accepting photos by email at: [email protected]; the Seniors baby
and current photos are due by 5/15
● 5/18 @ 4pm Leadership will help with centerpiece silhouette cutting
● Tickets available prior to 5/15; 294 tickets sold to date; need to sell at least 300
● Set up as early as 4pm; props will be set up by themes for pictures; Historians can check
out a projector from the Library (Mr. O’Rourke) and will provide sound system & music
● Banquet held at Queen Mary awhile ago, may consider that venue for the future
President’s Report: Rose Lazo
● T-shirts & shorts order delayed due to low funds in the account; $4000 is spent just on
transportation per season for marching and indoor drumline
● Swap Meet update; city to present to Planning Committee, requesting the amount of space
needed for City Planner approval
● Mandatory meeting on 6/2 for all incoming and returning band/guard members in the
cafeteria; boosters offer to answer questions and provide information to new parents
● Update on EMUHSD board meeting; rumors of Principals being moved; some boosters
attended; Mr. Welemin spoke and it seems to have made a difference; keep attending the
board meetings through summer and possibly start sign ups to rotate shifts.
● Spring Spectacular on 5/20; tickets $7 per person, pre sale next week; boosters will sell
snacks and clothing; donate treats to sell, Sergio will donate remaining t-shirts; 4-5 parents
rotate to help sell outside the gym; Nicky will inform section leaders regarding baskets
● 5/20 Spring 2015 DVD released; $20(includes some features only available on the DVD)
Colorguard VP: Rosy Algarin
● Motion approved to reimburse $10 parking fee for Winterguard mat transportation
Indoor Drumline VP: Jesse Beserra
● Ike’s absence was due to unforeseen circumstances
Mr. Massaro:
● Jazz Band placed 3rd @ Workman; 2nd @ Mt. Sac; attended a clinic at Workman given
by Director of Jazz Studies @ Fullerton College; would like another clinic to help Jazz
Band go further for Sat. competition @ RCC; cost is $125
● Motion was approved for $125 for Jazz Clinic
● Wind Ensemble selected to perform at State Festival; earned a Unanimous Superior at
Regional Festival in Burbank on 5/5
● 2 weeks ago San Diego trip; visited Belmont Park; performed Sat. and sounded amazing;
awards @ Sea World, earned Gold along with Best Performing Group Off Stage Adjudicators
Award; Sun. attended the S.D. Zoo; great tour trip
● Winterguard made Finals earned Bronze; did a great job, very proud of them
● Coffee House Cabaret last Thurs.; Roger Cobian alumni and band parent sang
● 5/19 dress rehearsal for Spring Spectacular
● 5/20 Spring Spectacular @ Arroyo Gym
● 5/22 Drum Major Auditions
● 5/23 Banquet @ Almansor Court (Alhambra)
● 5/28-29 Colorguard Auditions
● 5/28, 6/2, 6/4 & 6/8 Percussion Auditions
● 6/2 Mandatory meeting for incoming and returning band/guard members
● Pre-registered 65 guard and 89 band students; need more instruments; verbal
communication that a portion of funds for education to be used for instruments
● Fireworks booth flyer needed to involve incoming parents with options to work a shift or
agree to purchase; Shelley agreed to design a flyer
● Carnegie Hall 2016 for Wind ensemble 3/25-3/30 (5 nights) during Spring Break; World
Projects working on airfare; Park Central Hotel already booked; 4-5 chaperones need to be
Board Report approved by summer; some alumni will come back and perform
● Band uniforms needed; purchase new uniforms or an option is percussion wears all black;
costumes are another option but adds to the cost and uniforms are still needed for parades
Kathy Evanilla:
● Fair share done
● Band Camp deposit due @ 6/2 mandatory meeting
● 1st Fundraiser is Cherrydale during Band camp
● Deposit will be due in June for New York (Carnegie Hall 2016)
