Tina Turner Tribute Quiz
The revised date, 12th. April, was good to us and the rain kept off. There was a great attendance allowing for two
full teams. Management team batted first, scoring 138 for 7. Vice President Rex top scored with 19 until a great
catch by Andrew. Leigh was looking good but was run out on unlucky 13. Chris too did well and retired on 18.
However, Extras total of 26 says a lot for the quality of some of the bowling and kept the umpire busy and tiring.
The Members team, headed by Steve 25, Grant 30, Paul 18 and Robbie 17 and everyone making a contribution
totaling 134 for 5.
On the bowling, best figures are, Steve 2 for 9 from 3, Grant 2 for 10 from 3 and Dave 2 for 11 from 3.
The match was declared a draw. Everybody had fun and agreed to do it again.
Thank you to the umpire (name unknown, sorry), to the caterers, also for the restricted area and organisers.
As always it was an enjoyable experience for players and spectators alike.
Regards
John Capon

Fishing Club
Recently the Fishing Section oversaw the weigh-in
for the Browns Bay School Fishing competition,
Fish of all sizes were weighed, including bait fish,
however the kids had a real fun time. Thanks to
Bob Towersey for being our number one man on
the job. Also a well done to Tony Wiles who
landed at 170kg Broadbill during daylight hours,
not an easy thing to do.
The Hopin Tournament, out of Tutukaka, also saw
representatives from the Club fishing, without
much success we might say.
The replacement trip on the Kaipara harbour is
proving difficult to arrange, as this is prime time
as all the charter boats are fully booked, however
we will get there. May brings us 2 charters, both
to White Island and June on Diversity for a
Saturday trip, out of Gulf harbour. As always lists
are on the board. It appears that boat ownership
is undergoing a change, more runabouts are out
there fully set for Game fish, marlin etc, major
reason appears to be flexibility to fish wherever
one wants, plus the costs of running a launch.
Wine Appreciation Group (WAGS).
We have addressed the problems that arose at
our recent tasting.
Among changes, for Regular attenders we will
revert to the previous system of a BULK
permanent seating allocation, less apologies,
rather than Individual allocations.
Non Regular attenders are asked to notify their
intention to attend the next tasting.
Members to choose their own tables/groups on
arrival.
To give apologies or notify intention to attend
next tasting, please email [email protected]
Our tastings are held on the second Thursday of
the month, excepting Dec & Jan.
The next tasting will be on Thursday 14th May
at 6.45pm.
VILLA MARIA Wines will be presenting a
selection of their wines. These may include
new releases, new varieties and some of their
most popular wines. Some special wines may be
available at special prices.
Welfare
Pool Section
Unfortunately, I have been the one unwell this
month. However, I made an afternoon visit to
the Bays Club to catch up with Peter
McClune. Also, Gina Callan who has had
another successful knee replacement. Good to
see you looking so well.
With the weather starting to get cooler, have a
light jacket to pop on and help prevent getting
chilled.
The first tournament for 2015, Drawn Pairs is completed
and we congratulate Leigh Cowden & Marnie Simmonds as
winners in a clean sweep 3-0 over Barrie Eynon & Darren
Raumati.
Losing semi-finalists were Annette Davis & Michael Yap and
Maureen Capon & Brian Davis. Thank you everyone who
participated in the most entertaining day.
On the Wednesday wins ladder, as at 22nd. April Peter
Grime is in first place closely followed by Paul Duncan. We
also have four ladies in the top ten, Annette, Jenny, Marnie
and Maureen.
We also welcome three new members, Jacky, Lee and
Marco.
Our next tournament is Men’s Singles on Sunday 28th June.
A notice for names will be available soon.
Travel
April saw us learning the pros and cons of being
a travel broker.
It is very convenient way of booking travel for
people who like a personal one-on-one service
as Debbie will meet with the client either at
their home or in a cafe over coffee.
Thank you Debbie for that interesting insight.
Next meeting is the 4th May at 7pm with Trudy
telling us about using an Australian rail pass as
efficiently as one can.
Congratulations go to the two
winners of the DB cider
promotion.
Martin Findlay
Darren Raumati
They both won a $200 Pamper
package from Skin Deep
