Hoops/Jump Rope for Heart
is the third of three yearly charitable fundraisers that BDES participates in. On May 29th
our students will be skipping or playing basketball to promote fitness and a healthy heart. All
students will be participating whether they
fundraise or not. Only students that fundraise
are eligible for prizes. All donations will benefit
the Heart and Stroke foundation of Canada.
Track and Field 2014 –At Lions Park
The school Track and Field meet will
take place on May 15th. The meet will
include all the students from grades
4-8. Parents are more than welcome to
come out and cheer on their
son/daughter. Please make sure that
your child brings a some extra fluids
in their lunch that day.
May 26-June 5th
It is that time of year again,
our grade 3 and 6 students will be writing the
EQAO assessment in May. Both grade 3 and grade
6 teachers will be hard at work preparing our students for the assessment. The EQAO assessment
will be administered on May 26th– 28th for grade 3 and June 5th to June 7th for our
grade 6 students.
Students from grade 4-8 all gathered together
twice a week from November until April to study and
practice the ultimate problem solving game: chess.
We studied various openings, problems and end game
situations. We also learned that the patience and
thinking skills that we use in chess can help us make
better decisions in life.
The chess season came to an end at the Grand Erie
School Board, Junior Chess Tournament. We were
well represented by some strong grade 4 and 5 students who displayed exemplary playing skills. Congratulations to Lucas, Holden, Alyssa, Marcus, Jessa
and Rachel who did a terrific job. Thanks for the
great year and for representing our school so well.
Junior Badminton
Congratulations to our junior badminton team for their tremendous
effort at the tournament held on April 21 at Paris District High
School. The students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship
throughout the tournament. Mrs. Coates and Mrs. Grieve were very
proud of our students as they represented BDES in such a positive
manner. Team members included Justin J, Dylan C, Jess M, Zack B, Wyatt S, Owen S, Matt S,
Rachel W. Jenna F, Kirsten V, Alyssa T, Jocelyn M, Eric R, Ava P and Braedyn E.
We were lucky to have 15 grade
seven BDES students attend the
first Elementary Eco Conference
at Camp Trillium this month. Students were treated to an amazing
presentation by 12 year old Hannah Alper, a Me to We inspirational speaker. Following the
presentation students attended
workshops which reinforced
strategies they can implement at school to help the environment. We look forward to
these students being eco friendly leaders next year.
