ART HOUSE MONDAY
CINEMA SERIES
The Art House Monday Cinema Series is a weekly event highlighting the many genres
of independent film. Past showings have included documentaries, indie films, limited
releases, and local productions.
WILD TALES (Relatos Salvages)
Official submission of Argentina to the best
foreign language film category of the 87th
Academy Awards 2015. Pedro Almodovar
presents a film by Damian Szifron
Vulnerable in the face of reality that shifts and
suddenly turns unpredictable, the characters
of Wild Tales cross the thin line that divides
civilization and barbarism.
Rated R for violence, language and brief
sexuality. (2:12)
IRIS
IRIS pairs the 87-year-old Maysles with
Iris Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly
dressed 93-year-old style maven who has
had an outsized presence on the New York
fashion scene for decades. The film portrays
a singular woman whose enthusiasm for
fashion, art and people are life’s sustenance
and reminds us that dressing, and indeed
life, is nothing but an experiment. Despite
the abundance of glamour in her current
life, she continues to embrace the values
and work ethic established during a middleclass Queens upbringing during the Great
Depression: “I feel lucky to be working. If
you’re lucky enough to do something you
love, everything else follows.”
Rated PG-13 for some strong language. (1:38)

MAN FROM RENO
In a small town south of San Francisco, Sheriff Paul Del Moral (Pepe Serna)
is driving home through the fog when he accidentally strikes a pedestrian,
a lone Japanese man. However, before an investigation can take place
the man disappears from the hospital without a trace. At the same time,
Japanese mystery author Aki Akahori (Ayako Fujitani) takes a trip to
San Francisco in order to escape the press tour for her latest book--a
potboiler in her world famous “Inspector Takabe” series. Feeling lonely and
vulnerable, she begins a romantic affair with a mysterious Japanese traveler
from Reno (Kazuki Kitamura). Her new lover is charismatic and charming
but abruptly disappears from the hotel, leaving behind his suitcase and a
trail of questions...
Not Rated. (2:00)
FURIOUS SEVEN
Dominic and his crew thought they left the criminal mercenary life behind.
They defeated an international terrorist named Owen Shaw and went their
seperate ways. But now, Shaw’s brother, Deckard Shaw is out killing the
crew one by one for revenge. Worse, a Somalian terrorist called Jakarde,
and a shady government official called “Mr. Nobody” are both competing
to steal a computer terrorism program called God’s Eye, that can turn any
technological device into a weapon. Torretto must reconvene with his team
to stop Shaw and retrieve the God’s Eye program while caught in a power
struggle between terrorists and the United States government.
Rated PG-13 for prolonged frenetic sequences of violence, action and
mayhem, suggestive content and brief strong language. (2:27)
HOME
When Oh, a loveable misfit from another planet, lands on Earth and finds
himself on the run from his own people, he forms an unlikely friendship
with an adventurous girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own. Through
a series of comic adventures with Tip, Oh comes to understand that being
different and making mistakes is all part of being human. And while he
changes her planet and she changes his world, they discover the true
meaning of the word HOME.
Rated PG for mild action and some rude humor. (1:49)
HOT PURSUIT
An uptight and by-the-book cop tries to protect the outgoing widow of
a drug boss as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and
murderous gunmen.
Rated PG-13 for sexual content, violence, language and some drug
material. (1:40)
WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE (Omoide no Mânî)
A young girl is sent to the country for health reasons, where she meets an
unlikely friend in the form of Marnie, a young girl with flowing blonde hair.
As the friendship unravels it is possible that Marnie has closer ties to the
protagonist than we might expect.
Rated PG for thematic elements and smoking. (1:53)
EX MACHINA
Caleb, a 26 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a
competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to
Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the
remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and
fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world’s first true
artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl.
Rated R for graphic nudity, language, sexual references and some
violence. (1:58)
