Dymax Tree Shears for excavators are available in 5 cutting capacities ranging from 10 inches in diameter up to 20
inches in diameter. Dymax Tree Shears for excavators are ideal for maintaining rights-of-way along roadsides, railroad maintenance-of-way clearing, site development, general thinning, hazard fuels reduction programs, harvesting
trees for bio-mass fuels and removing diseased trees caused from such infestations as pine beetles. Whether you’re
a tree clearing company, construction company, county road department, department of transportation or bio
mass fuels contractor these shears are useful in any application. It’s time to put down your chainsaw, get out of the
bucket truck and get into an excavator.
Dymax Tree Shears for excavators pack tremendous power for shearing all types of hardwoods and softwoods. All
models except the ROTA-SHEAR, feature grapple arms that secure the tree, allowing operators to place cut trees in
desired locations, load into trucks or feed chippers. Accumulator models allow operators to bunch-cut smaller diameter trees using spring loaded arms. All models are available with an optional hydraulic tilting interface that dramatically improves productivity when working on uneven terrain.

Understanding Dymax Tree Shear Model Nomenclature for Hydraulic Excavators
Numeric Capacity Indicator: 10, 14, 16, 18, 20. Indicates the largest size tree trunk diameter for cutting in one shear cycle.
Model type of shear: F - Forestry, with double grapple arms only; FA - Forestry with added spring-loaded accumulator arm;
ROT - rotating shear without grapple arms.
Machine compatability: X means Excavator mounted.
Options: TILT - optional side-to-side hydraulic tilt is included.
A note about shear cycle times…
Much is often made of the fact that a shear cycle time is measured in
multiple seconds, while a high speed saw cycle time is measured in single
seconds. Saw manufacturers proclaim that a high speed saw is as much as
5 times as fast as a shear.
What is most often missed is that the time spent positioning the machine for
the cut – whether equipped with a saw or a shear – takes anywhere from 15
seconds to as much as a minute or more. The true cycle time from cut to cut
must include machine positioning time.
Compare these results, from a live side-by-side test.
Yes, the saw is, perhaps, 10% quicker, but at a much higher initial cost, as
well as higher maintenance costs. Shears are proven to be the most cost effective and profitable way to fell and trim trees in land clearing operations.

7 to 12 Ton Excavators
The Dymax 10” Forestry Timberwolf Tree Shear is
ideal for 7-12T excavators. Two shear arms power
through hardwoods with ease. Each model
features two grapple arms that operate through
a sequence valve in conjunction with the shearing arms.

The 10” Timberwolf can also be equipped with
an optional accumulator arm, which, when used
with the standard grapple arms, enables the
shear to bunch-cut multiple small trees. Hydraulic tilting models are available for larger machines. These allow operators to adjust laterally
while working on uneven terrain.

The Dymax 14” Forestry Timberwolf Tree Shear
for excavators is ideal for 10-20T machines and
features heavy duty shear arms that power 1”
(25.4mm) Hardox 400 blades through the hardest
of hardwoods. It features dual grapple arms that
operate through a sequence valve in conjunction
with the shearing arms. An optional accumulator
model is available for those who need to bunchcut multiple small trees. Hydraulic tilting models
are available for adjusting to trees while working

Dymax 20” Forestry Timberwolf Tree Shears feature
1.25” thick (25.4mm) Hardox 400 shear blades. Standard models feature two grapple arms that securely
grab the tree using a sequence valve prior to shearing.

20” in diameter. An optional accumulator bunch-cutting arm is available. Optional hydraulic tilting models

Tree shears have been felling trees for more than 40
years. In the 1980’s Dymax became the first to develop
skid steer mounted tree shears for clearing pasture
lands throughout the midwest and plains regions of
North America. Invasive trees such as mesquite, osage
orange, hedge, cedar and juniper were literally taking
over the land, depleting it of the moisture needed for
pasture grasses.
The Dymax land clearing tree shear quickly became
the preferred choice due to its reliability and performance. It traced its design to the earliest forestry tree
shears used in high production logging and quickly
became sought after by ranchers and farmers.
Following the success of the land clearing shears,
Dymax introduced a line of shears more like the forestry
models, complete with grapple arms and an optional
accumulator bunching arm for gathering small clumps
of trees such as aspen, pine and fir.
Dymax forestry tree shears began working in hazard
fuels reduction programs removing dead undergrowth
from the forest, removing diseased trees in areas being attacked by pine beetles and site development
throughout North America. As the 20th century wound
down, Dymax Tree Shears earned the title “Best Built,
Most Rugged Tree Shear.” But progress didn’t stop!
In 2004, Dymax introduced the all new Ranch Axe and
Timberwolf Tree Shear lines. These models were faster,
more powerful and even more reliable. With 30% faster
cycle times, solid cast shearing arms, super fast blade
adustment system, Hardox 400 shear blades, larger
chrome plated pivot pins, bolt on optional guards and
sprayer systems, the Dymax Ranch Axe and Timberwolf Tree Shears provide thousands of hours of

10” RANCH AXE TREE SHEAR - Land Clearing
Great for Smaller Machines
If you’re cutting smaller trees or have a smaller skid
steer loader, then the Dymax 10” Ranch Axe delivers
unmatched performance and superior reliability.
Ideal for smaller skid steer loaders the Dymax 10” Ranch
Axe requires machines to have 1500 lbs. of rated operating capacity and at least 12gpm (45 lpm) oil flow.
The single shearing arm closes against a fixed anvil.
Sheared trees will generally fall towards the shearing
side. An optional pushbar is available for helping operators push the tree once it has been sheared.

The Dymax Vortex Brushcutter is a workhorse. With more
than 750 lbs. in flywheel the Dymax Vortex chops through
brush and small trees in seconds. The Dymax Vortex features an open end deck design which cuts material before
it encounters the deck. This allows for faster cleanout and
recycle times while driving.
The Dymax Vortex is available with a standard flow,
medium flow or high flow motor system. Each model is
carefully matched to its machine carrier and flow rates allowing you to maximize cutting efficiency.

of loaders, these workhorse tools can pin directly to the
loader arms or fit specific brand coupler systems.
Grapples make the Dymax Loader Root Rakes extremely
productive. They are available with independent grapples for handling uneven sized loads or with full width
grapples for those who want maximize load retention
when handling finer materials.
