CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
MUSIC
Boomwhacker! - Students will learn about melodies and harmonies using Boomwhackers, fun tubes that
make noise when you whack them on something!
Storybook Alive: Music - This class will teach students creative ways to make musical instruments out of
everyday objects. After constructing various instruments, they will then learn how and when to use them to
enhance stories.
STOMP! - Students will learn how to make useful musical instruments from “junk”. They will also be able to
participate in fun games that teach them rhythm, marching, and making music in a group setting.
Percussion, Drums & Rhythm - In this class, students will learn all about drums. Each student will create
their own drum, decorate it, and play various rhythms on it!
Choir - Join your voice with other voices to learn how to create harmonies singing contemporary and classical
music.
DANCE
Ballet – The origin of all types of dance. Learn proper technique and poise.
Tap – Make noise by using your feet to create rhythmic patterns to upbeat music.
Jazz – A combination of many dance styles and techniques utilizing modern music. (This has no relation to
Jazz music).
Cultural Dance – Experience different cultures around the world through the art of dance. New Cultures this
year!
Hip-Hop - Designed to keep the body moving through quick moves and an upbeat rhythm to obtain a better
understanding of the hip-hop form of dance.
Dance Performance – Learn proper makeup and hair techniques along with costumes.
THEATER
Acting I - This class is an introduction to the stage and the art of acting.
Musical Theater – Learn to incorporate singing, acting and dance together in a group performance.
Improvisation – Learn how to stage a scene without a script by playing fun games.
Masks: Theatre Arts – Learn how to stage scenes without words, while using masks as a costume. (IT IS
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT STUDENTS ENROLL IN MASKS: VISUAL ARTS, ALSO.)
Illusion and Magic – Learn the basics of illusions, sleight of hand and trickery. Students will appear to
accomplish the seemingly impossible: reading someone’s mind, predicting the future and making items
disappear, all while learning to perform these tricks with control, finesse, and confidence.
Storybook Alive: Theatre Arts - Learn how to interpret a story and make it your own.
VISUAL ARTS
Painting – Discovering wet colors and new ways of using them by painting on rocks and shirts. We'll also have
loads of fun through some "science" like painting projects.
Repurposing - Making new creations out of things that get thrown away or lay around the house. You'll have a
blast making new things out of old things.
Crafty Scraps – We'll learn how to cut and fold paper, and glue it together in new ways to make cards,
collages and other neat things!
Paper Roll Art – All kinds of things out of toilet-paper and paper-towel rolls. Wall hangings, figurines, and
more!
Storybook Alive: Set and Prop Design – Learning a new side of storytelling through creating sets and props.
Masks: Visual Arts - In this class we'll make several different masks and decorate them through painting and
other venues. We will collaborate at times with the masks theater class to make some beautiful and fun
creations of characters. (IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT STUDENTS ENROLL IN MASKS:
THEATRE ARTS, ALSO.)
