A Time for Prayer and Personal Meditation
Strip away the perfect lilies…across the chancel steps, the bright
reflecting sight and sound of brass, and the white and gold of
paraments and stoles…and you are left with a report, some bloodstained bandages in a vacated garden cave, several startled temple
guards, a gaggle of bewildered witnesses, and through all this, a
dawning hope, so strange yet sure it drives you trembling to your
knees, groping for fresh syllables and sounds to shape this ever new,
yet ancient cry. The Lord is risen…risen indeed!
ORDER OF WORSHIP
Upon entering the sanctuary, note the somber mood, due
to the absence of light, reminiscent of the stone-cold
tomb where the body of the crucified Jesus lay.
As the women came to the tomb to anoint the body of
their beloved Master, may we come to the tomb with
reverence and gratitude for his sacrificial love.

our sinfulness is exposed.

O God of the empty tomb, we come to this joyful Easter
Day focused on the lilies, but do not let us look past or
forget the cross. Remind us again of the tomb of death,
now empty. Remind us again of Mary's tears of sorrow,
now joy. Remind us again of Peter's words of denial, now
proclamation.
O God of the empty tomb, as you weave extraordinary
patterns into our ordinary lives, forgive our complacency
and initiative to right the wrongs we see. Forgive our
taking for granted your good gifts of creation. Forgive our

Special thanks to Evan Henry and Kirsten Nielsen for providing
trumpet music to enhance our worship service this morning.
Today, all the symbols that marked our journey through
Lent and Holy Week have been removed. In their place, we
find lilies shaped like trumpets, heralding the good news
that the Risen Christ has defeated the powers of sin and
death! As an important part of this morning's processional,
we will also see a flowered cross, symbolizing the new life which is
ours and the world's in Christ Jesus our Lord! Let all God's people
joyfully say: "He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! Amen!"

of a special event or in honor/memory of a loved one, please sign

Donations for the Care Packages for College Freshmen are
requested by April 6. Look for the box in the Narthex. Suggestions
include: non-perishable snack items; school supplies such as sticky
notes, pens and highlighters, and notes of encouragement for final
exams. The packages will be about the size of a shoe box.
The North Carolina Presbyterian Historical Society will hold
its Annual Spring Tour on Friday and Saturday, April 10-11, in the
beautiful colonial town of Edenton. Registration is $21.

Nursery Changes — As of April 12 (next Sunday), we will be
making some changes in our nursery ministry. First, the infant
nursery will be moving downstairs to the preschool wing so that all
the nurseries are on the same hall, allowing for better
communication and parental contact. Additionally, we will offer
three nurseries during the 11:00 a.m. worship service: infants —
Room 121; ages 1-3 years — Room 120; and ages 4-6 years —
Room 124. We will continue to ask you to serve in this important

Meet, Greet and Eat — In response to many requests, the CPC
Elders invite YOU to join them on Sunday, April 12 in the
Fellowship Hall right after the 11:00 a.m. service for conversation,
light finger foods and beverages suitable for the whole family, just
before heading out to take on another week. We look forward to
seeing you there!
Memorials and Endowment Committee Announces its
Grant Cycle for 2015—Open April 15 — The application
deadline is June 15. Approved grants will be announced in August,
with funds disbursed in September. Grant applications as well as
policy guidelines are available in the church office or at

Potluck Lunch to Honor Barb Munch — Congregational
Fellowship Team will host a potluck lunch on April 19 (Youth
Sunday) following the 11:00 a.m. service to honor the long and
faithful service of Barb Munch and to wish her well as she moves
to Pennsylvania. The congregation is invited to join us.
Corrections — The bios of our newest members that were in the
bulletin on March 29 stated that Rochelle Diggs, Russell Diggs,
Brian Derwart and Susan Lamatrice all joined by Letter of
Transfer, which was incorrect — they all joined by Reaffirmation of
Faith.
