Position Description:
CCRCD seeks a highly motivated employee to manage projects and provide technical assistance related to soil, water, and habitat on
rangeland, farmlands, and urban watersheds. This position requires ability to analyze and solve complex problems related to
hydrology, water quality, soil science, biology, agriculture, watershed management, and environmental regulations. The employee
must be capable of independent initiative, while also working cooperatively with a diverse array of clientele, partners, and staff,
particularly our primary partner, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Employees must serve as a positive role model
for other employees, partners, and constituents by supporting the mission, vision, and values of CCRCD. The ideal candidate will be
highly motivated by the opportunity to work with landowners to achieve lasting conservation results and demonstrate the highest
standards of quality, thoroughness, and integrity in the performance of their work
Primary Responsibilities
• Organize technical workshops on resource conservation for farmers, ranchers, public land managers, rural and urban
landowners, and general public. Organize annual local workgroup meeting for CCRCD and NRCS.
• Develop, manage, and oversee conservation projects relating to livestock pond restoration, rangeland stewardship, farm
water quality and irrigation, urban stream restoration, and other watershed improvements.
• Conduct fundraising, cultivate donors, prepare grant proposals, and manage funding agreements.
• Prepare permit applications, CEQA documents, landowner agreements, and water rights applications for projects.
• Coordinate with NRCS technical staff to prepare plans, engineering, and technical studies for projects and/or recruit and
hire technical professionals for specialized work.
• Implement construction projects, manage bid solicitations, negotiate contracts, supervise construction managers and
contractors, and enforce scope, budget, and timeline.
• Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with landowner agreements, grant agreements, and permits.
• Prepare reports for landowners, funders, and regulatory agencies.
• Assist local watershed groups, CCRCD watershed coordinators, and community volunteers, as needed.
• Develop and deliver presentations about CCRCD projects at community events, meetings, and workshops.
• Prepare compelling written and visual content for annual report, publications, website and social media sites.
• Maintain and operate outreach database for CCRCD constituents and clients.
• Provide conservation planning and technical assistance to land managers in accordance with the NRCS Conservation
Planning process. Achieve proficiency with NRCS technical tools and the NRCS enrollment process.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• Advanced degree in soil sciences, agro-ecology, range ecology, hydrology, water quality, or a closely related field.
• Certification, or willingness to obtain professional certification, in conservation planning, rangeland management, soil
science, water quality, or other agricultural and environmental specialties.
• Demonstrated experience managing a working farm, ranch, or natural resource reserve.
• Working knowledge of the flora and fauna of range, riparian, and oak woodland habitats of northern CA and East Bay.
• Working knowledge of USDA Farm Bill Conservation Programs and the NRCS Conservation Planning process.

Minimum Qualifications
• Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in agricultural science, natural science, resource management,
or related field and three years professional experience in agricultural or natural resource field.
• Excellent written and verbal skills.
• Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision and an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group
of co-workers, participants, and partners.
• Strong organizational skills, including ability to prioritize daily and long term objectives, manage multiple projects effectively,
and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and exceptional follow-up skills are critical.
• Competency with current computer technologies, including MS Outlook; Word; Excel; PowerPoint, and ESRI Arc GIS.
• California driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to safely operate standard transmission and 4WD vehicles on ranch
roads and uneven terrain.

County. Our federal partner, the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) , provides technical support for our programs.

Work Environment
The position is partially grant-based and currently funded for a period of 12 months with an excellent possibility of continued
employment. Work and/or office hours are generally from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however the employee may be required to attend
occasional evening and/or weekend events. The primary place of employment is the Contra Costa NRCS/CCRCD Field Office in the
City of Concord, California. Local travel will be required, generally within Contra Costa County and occasionally within the greater
Bay Area and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
Physical Requirements
The primary workplace is an office with moderate noise level. Office work requires long hours at a computer under natural and
artificial lighting. Repetitive hand use and close, eye/hand coordination, and extended periods of sitting or stationary activity in
front of a screen is required. The employee should be prepared to work in the field, exposed to both and cold and hot conditions
and may be required to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. The employee should also have the ability to hike up to 2 miles per
day over uneven terrain, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

CCRCD offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Full-time – ¾ time employees receive holiday, sick, and vacation
leave, 100% medical and dental premium coverage, partial coverage of dependents including domestic partners, and access to a
voluntary deferred compensation program.
