Jeri and I visited John “Canner” Culp last Sunday at the Clermont Health and Rehabilitation Center. John
is recovering from a serious infection and extreme weight loss. We had a great visit and enjoyed his fond
remembrances of his travels in the Westcraft and his many TCT friends. John’s Westcraft will be on its
way to the RV Heritage Museum shortly. Through the efforts of Al Hesselbart, Larry Perry, John Wright
and other TCT members, we were able to get his trailer in shape for transport. It will become an exhibit
at the museum reflecting John’s experiences as a true trailerite full timing in his ’47 Westcraft. The
Westcraft has been in the Culp family since purchase in 1949, while visiting a TCT Winter Convention in
Tampa Florida.
I am sure John would appreciate hearing from his friends and fellow members:

Teresa Archer - Texas State Representative
Email: [email protected]
My name is Teresa Archer and I love vintage campers. I was bitten by the bug a few years back. I
started out refurbishing old farm houses when I lived in Michigan. I moved to Texas in 1996. I met my
husband, Guy, when I went to work for Wal-Mart. When I was able to quit working full time, we picked
up our first camper. It was almost 6 hours away. It's funny now, but not then, that during the drive home
the lower front of the camper started to unhook from the sides when we were about half way to the
house. Thank goodness for duct tape, it really came in handy. LOL! My husband restored the stove and I
rebuilt the front and back of the camper. We have restored approximately 14 campers since then. We
currently have 3 campers and 2 of them are vintage. A 1955 Dalton Apache that we rebuilt from the
frame up and a 1954 canned ham whose identification is unknown. My passions are photography,
restoring /refurbishing vintage campers and the love of animals. Though I haven't been a member of the
TCT group for very long, I am so very proud to be your TCT state representative for Texas. I hope you
will be able to join us for one of our rally's! See you soon.
Larry Hill and Sylvia Davids - Colorado State
Representative
Email: [email protected]
Hello Tin Can Tourists! We are Larry Hill and Sylvia Davids and are pleased to be your state reps here in
beautiful Colorado.
Larry was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM and has always been involved as a hobby with things
retro... mostly classic cars and vintage arcade games. His passion for vintage trailers started in 2003
when a 1962 Tepee was purchased and restored to pull behind his 1958 Chevy Biscayne. Discovering the
fun of vintage camping soon lead to being one of the founders of the Southwest Vintage Camping
Association, which has hosted several rallies in NM, AZ and CO. including the original Trailer Trash Bash
every August. This passion for vintage trailers also opened up a big career change, leaving a career in
engineering to open a vintage trailer restoration shop, Retro Restoration. To date we have restored over
60 trailers, mostly canned hams with a few riveted trailers thrown in.
Sylvia was born in Portland, OR and moved to Colorado in 1988. Possibly being born in the wrong
generation she has always loved the 50's styles and colors, especially anything turquoise. One day a 1963
Shasta passed by her home office and she was hooked, and soon went on a quest to find one of her
own. This led to several trailers, some keepers, others cleaned up and resold, but a turquoise1963 Shasta
from Washington state was soon purchased, almost an identical trailer to the one that passed by the
window that day.
In 2006 we met at a vintage trailer rally in Chama, NM. Tired of a long distant relationship Larry packed
up his restoration business and relocated to Erie in 2008. We discovered that we both independently had
a dream of owning a vintage trailer park and in 2010 we found our park. It was an old, abandoned
campground that had gone through a foreclosure five years previous. It was in very poor condition but
the location was perfect so we saw it as a diamond in the rough. In April of 2010 we opened the Starlite
Classic Campground just outside of Canon City, CO at the Royal Gorge Bridge. Besides being a typical RV
park for any size or age rig, we have several of our restored trailers available for overnight lodging.
These include the New Moon, a clone of the Long, Long Trailer, a beautiful Spartan Royal Mansion, and
several of our canned ham trailers for a true vintage camping experience. We also have themed campers
such as the Trailer Trash Hideaway, a Winnebago turned Tiki, and a 70's shagadelic trailer complete with
lava lamps and beaded curtains. As time and budget allows we are adding more units from our collection
of over 20 vintage trailers. We hope to have you visit us, please check us out at
www.theStarliteCampground.com or on our Facebook page.
Being avid collectors, restoration experts, rally hosts and now campground owners we truly look forward
to supporting the great group of Tin Can Tourists!

2013 Modernism Week Vintage Trailer Show
On an absolutely beautiful morning in sunny Palm Springs a group of volunteers and friends waited in
anticipation for the first vintage trailer to roll into the Hilton Hotel parking lot. One by one, as they
started to arrive from California, Nevada, Oregon and Utah, the parking schematic I’d spent hours
perfecting started to come to life.
It was an honor to co-produce this years’ Vintage Trailer Show with my friend Christy Eugenis – I focused
on recruiting a diverse group of 20 vintage trailer exhibitors while Christy set out to find 10 unique retail
vendors. Both of us own vintage trailers - she has a darling Aristocrat while my husband Doug & I are
vintage Airstream owners – and we had a BLAST!! I reached out to the TCT, VAC and ROVT clubs, as
well as the organizers of the Pismo Beach Vintage Trailer Rally and the publisher of Vintage Camper
Trailers in my search for vintage trailers from the late 40’s to the mid-late 60’s and am so thrilled with the
results.
This is the fourth year of the show, which is always the last weekend of Modernism Week – an 11-day
celebration of mid-century modern design, architecture and culture. Christy took my friend Susan Taylor
and I to a few of the Mod Week events – we were astounded by the number of people who were
looking forward to the Vintage Trailer Show (it was so fun to be able to tell one aficionado that yes, there
would be an Ultra Van in the show this year!)
As in previous years, two awards designed by Stevotomic were presented at the Saturday Night
celebration: the “Peoples’ Choice Award” – which went to a stunning Airstream Flying Cloud owned by
Randy & Anna and the “Best in Modernism Award” – going to Jim & Denny’s pristine Holiday House. To
the surprise & delight of the show participants two additional awards, also designed by Stevotomic, were
presented as well: the “Best Original Vintage” – most original inside & out, with decorative changes only
- went to Glenn & Teresa’s Airstream Ambassador and the “Best Vintage Flair” - most representative of
the style, fashion & era of their trailer – went to Alan & Jaysa’s Aladdin Sultans Castle. Thanks Stevo –
that was really fun!!!
In addition to the 20 vintage trailer exhibitors, there were three mobile retail vintage trailers; another six
retail vendor booths, the Airstream Land Yacht Concept trailer as well as a presence from Airstream Los
Angeles.
Thank you Alan & Shari from Bluesteel Airstream Photobooth for sharing your photos from the show:
http://www.bluesteelphotobooth.com/modernism-week-vintage-trailer-show-in-palm-springs-eventphotos/. More photos, blog posts and media coverage from the event can be found on our Facebook
page at:
http://www.facebook.com/VintageTrailerShowModernismWeek2013?fref=ts
A HUGE thank you to each and every trailer owner and retail vendor; to the amazing Mod Week
Volunteers; for the support from my friends Jim & Lynda, Clifford & Vanessa and all of our friends from
the Airstream community, my co-conspirator Stevo and, most importantly, to Forrest and Terry Bone for
their passion for the vintage trailer community. Little did Doug & I know that by purchasing a ’62 Shasta
five years ago how it would change our lives unimaginably…and now we can’t imagine a life without the
friendships that have come from this love of vintage trailers.
Safe travels & happy camping everyone Mona & Doug Heath
Tin Can Tourists 93rd Winter Convention
The 93rd Annual Winter Convention was held January 21-24 at the Sertoma Youth Ranch north of Dade
City FL. The Ranch is an Old Florida style campground, perfect for a Tin Can Tourist rally and services
as a venue for blues, bluegrass, rock, and jazz concerts under a huge new pavilion. The Ranch also
provides a getaway for kids once school lets out.
Upon our arrival on Wednesday to help set up, it was obvious that several Airstreams had migrated north
from the Sarasota Florida State Rally the previous Sunday. Under Thursday’s bright sunny skies, most of
the 51 pre-registered attendees found spaces where they chose, offering a great and eclectic mix of
trailers, motor homes and converted busses…exactly what you’d expect from a Tin Can Tourist Rally.
Following the Thursday evening induction ceremonies for 23 new members, there were more pizzas than
anyone could possibly eat or even take back to the rigs for snacking along with the finest boxed wine
money could buy. Shortly after dinner, Hunt Jones gave a PowerPoint presentation on “The Lincoln
Highway, America’s Main Street” which is celebrating its centennial this June (see the TCT website for our
OH to Kearny NE celebratory caravan). Forrest Bone began drawings which occurred throughout the
weekend for free membership renewals, and he and Jeri tended the “store” for sales of TCT shirts and
paraphernalia.
Fine weather continued on Friday, and the day began with a huge breakfast served up by Sertoma’ s
staff. A thick coupon book offered many the chance to shop locally while others just kicked back at
camp. The evening meal was a pot-luck provided by members, and again was way more food than could
possibly be eaten. “Masquerade,” a husband/wife duo then began what would become three hours of
accompanied songs which had everyone singing along and dancing, and by all accounts was acclaimed
the best entertainment in recent TCT Winter Convention memory.
Saturday brought a continental breakfast and the Open House from 11 am to 3 pm which added more
new members and XX cars of visitors at $5 a carload, a good portion of which was donated to the Youth
Ranch. Prior to a barbequed chicken dinner, the winners of the TCT’s Southeastern Region Concours
were announced, including the Special Interest Award given to Harry and Faye Driggers’ 1912 Wynona
sheepherder’s wagon, the Reserve Best-in-Show to Les Bowen’s 1952 Vagabond in stunning creamsicle
colors, and Best-in-Show award to Herb and Sidra Spies superb 1926 Ford Model T with its slide-out
apartment scratch-built from a set of 1916 plans. Most all of us, exhausted from the day’s socializing
and prior rally activities then fell into appropriate beds.
With the end of all the fine weather, Sunday’s gray skies and threat of rain had most departing
immediately after the Ranch’s breakfast of biscuits and gravy. Forrest’s announcement that the 94 th
Winter Convention would be held at Sertoma the commensurate long weekend in February 2014 was
well-received, a confirmation of ”the more we get together, the happier we’ll be.”

Manatee Village Heritage Days Open House
Hello Forrest, (Royal Exalted Tin Can Opener)
We appreciate your time and energy spent to invite TCT members to display
their vintage vehicles at Manatee Village Historical Park’s Heritage Days Open
House on March 16th.
Your presence really added to the program agenda presenting a unique exhibit
for visitors unfamiliar with the history, vehicular design and engineering, or
adventure that this travel affords. Everyone I spoke with was so friendly and
polite answering my questions.
Thank you again for your perseverance over the past year to make this happen
here.
Best Regards! to you, your family and members,
Chris Brown
PS … We estimate from gate counters, that we had over 500 people.

From the Webmaster’s Desk
By Terry Bone
We get lots of questions about how to find a vintage trailer to purchase. We put together some resources
on the TCT website to help with this common question. Here is a link to the
page: http://tincantourists.com/wiki/doku.php?id=where_to_search_for_your_vintage_camper
This page is editable, so if you have other ideas or suggestions, please go to the page and add them.
Where to Search for your Tin Can
Of course we had to start with our own TCT classifieds but we really think this is the best on the internet.
Our website devoted to vintage motor home and trailer enthusiasts. We have a Classifieds section that
everyone should include in their camper-searching ritual. Here is a link that you can use: Tin Can Tourists
Search. This goes straight to the page where the For Sale ads are sorted by most recent listings.
There is a wide range of campers on Tin Can Tourists, from just-found-in-a-cornfield camper to fully
restored beauties.
Facebook
People are listing trailers for sale or links to trailers for sale on Craigslist and Ebay - let them do the work
for you, just join these groups. Tell them what you are looking for and sometimes you'll get a good lead.

Facebook Buy, Sell, Trade Groups
Many local area Buy-Sell-Trade groups have been started on facebook. google search of some can be
found here: http://goo.gl/qqkk2 or searching for “Buy sell Trade” or “Campers + buy sell Trade” & Your
City, State or County.
Craigslist & Related Sites
In order to perform an efficient search on Craigslist, you have to know how to use the pipe symbol,
which looks like the vertical line: |. This is a link to a search that I commonly used on my local Craigslist.
Here’s the text of the search:
((vintage camper)|(vintage trailer)|shasta|scotty|airstream|argosy)
You can see that I separated all of the keywords with the pipe symbol. It’s the same thing as putting an
“OR” between each phrase or word. If there is more than one word (like “vintage camper”), then you
have to put it in parentheses. And then you put everything in parentheses.
My Craigslist search was in the Philadelphia area for listings in the For Sale: Recreational Vehicles (RVs)
section. If there are results in nearby areas, they show up at the bottom of the page. But you can’t
control the nearby areas that show up, so you have to do multiple searches in different cities and states
in order to get broader results.
Instead
of
performing
a
zillion
Craigslist
searches,
you
can
use
a
website
called http://www.SearchTempest.com, which lets you enter the distance from your location. For
example, your results can include all Craigslist listings within 500 miles, if that’s how far you are willing to
go for a vintage camper. Also, on my IPad, I have an app called CraigsPro, which makes it a little easier
to perform Craigslist searches across many different cities and states. This is also great for yard-sale
searching, so it was worth the 99 cents. There are similar apps for Android and iPhones.
Alas, through all of my Craigslist searching, I found that most of the campers on Craigslist needed some
level of restoration. Many had water damage, which is the most prevalent problem with these old travel
trailers. We wanted a camper that was already restored, so I had trouble finding contenders on Craigslist.
But I still looked at Craigslist every day…just in case.
Kijiji
Around my area, Craigslist is not really that big - Kijiji is king.
Couple of features I like on Kijiji:
Its free to search (of course), and to post. You can pay to get your ads up higher in the search, but not
that many people do so I don't find it of much use. The default search is by date (most recent first), so
when I want to refresh my ad I just remove the old one and repost.
Searching is by area - you can drill down right to your municipality and get results close to you, but you
can also search by province or state, which I believe is new to Kijiji in the last year. I like to search all of
Ontario - you never know when I may be travelling to that area - it may be worth the drive!
Once you have a basic search you can also expand the search - 100km to 1000km from home. the left
panel will also let you narrow the search by category, municipality, distance, offering or buying and by
price. You can also sort the ads by price or date posted.
Now that you have a good search built with the parameters you like, Kijiji will send you a daily email of
new ads which fit the criteria. I really like this from a buyer and a seller point of view - if I am selling, I
want my ad 'pushed' to a buyer who might be interested.
eBay
Here is the super-duper eBay search that I performed every morning: Vintage Trailer eBay Search. Feel
free to steal it and give it a few tweaks. It isn’t just a search for “vintage camper” or “vintage trailer”. In
fact, I didn’t use any key words in the search. I honed the results to only include:
Campers listed on eBay Motors > RVs & Campers category Campers made before 1976 Campers under
25ft in length (although 16 ft. would have been sufficient) Results sorted by “Time: Newly Listed” Be sure
to use the filters along the left side of the page to help narrow your results. And then click the link that
says “Save this search” at the top of the page.
In the beginning, I also included a location filter: I only wanted to see campers within 200 miles of my
zip code. But the results were too limited, so I removed that filter.
When you use the Model Year in your search criteria, keep in mind that some sellers don’t know what
year their camper was made. So, they don’t enter any year in their listing. If your search is limited to
specific years, then you might miss some campers. Every once in a while, I would remove all of the year
filters from my search, just to see if I missed any vintage campers.
I originally had it set up to email me every day, but those notifications just don’t seem to work for me - I
was getting irrelevant or duplicate results in the emails. So I would just run the search at least once a
day.
eBay ended up being the winner for us - that’s where we found our 1956 Scotsman. Funnily enough, I
had never even seen another Scotsman in all of my months of searching. So it wasn’t a keyword that I
would have typed into any of these websites.
The seller had a very high feedback score, a detailed listing, provided many photos and answered all of
the questions that we had. We could tell from his listing that he took pride in his work. In the end, it
worked out for us, but you have to consider the risks of buying something without seeing it first. Most
seasoned travel trailer owners would say that it is a bad idea. But I am not a seasoned travel trailer
owner, so I can play dumb if I want.
Other RV Sites
Here are a few other websites that I would visit every once in a while. Some of them aren’t very active,
but you never know if you don’t look!





http://www.rvtrader.com/RV Trader Online - There aren’t a lot of vintage trailers on this site, but
it was worth the occasional look.
VintageCampers.com - These bare-bones campers are for hard code restorers only.
Sisters on the Fly - The famous club of like-minded outdoorsy women has a page dedicated to
campers for sale on their website.
Vintage Shasta Trailer Forum - If you are specifically looking for a vintage Shasta travel trailer,
this message board is a great place to start.
Little Vintage Trailer - A blog that occasionally has listings for vintage trailers for sale. Most are
smaller in size but on occasion larger ones are listed.

2013-14 Events
After receiving some complaints from attendees of some of the posted rallies at our site, we felt
that we needed to designate the events that are Official TCT Gatherings.
The designation of “Official” TCT Gatherings is probably overdue. We have been promoting,
through our website, just about everything that is submitted and have not been as clear as we
should be about the events that are generated by our regional representatives and from time to
time by TCT members.
The qualifications for a listing as an official TCT Gathering will probably be modified as it is a
work in progress, but for now the following guidelines will be in place:
1. The Gathering is hosted by a Regional Representative or an active TCT member
2. TCT membership is a requirement for attendance. Membership requirements must be
clearly stated and collection of the Tin Can Tourists membership fee must be part of the
rally registration process. Note: when the staff at Camp Dearborn asked callers for site
reservations, many falsely said they were active members to secure a site thereby
getting a price break granted to TCT and preventing a member from reserving that site.
3. The Regional Representative will be the clearing house for area events and recommend
events that they feel meet the guidelines for the Official designation. The Regional
Representative should be kept informed about the event's overall organization.
4. Concourses will be limited to the Annual Gathering and Regional Rallies. TCT purchases
the awards and provides some judging guidelines and wants to keep such awards
“special” by limiting the number of such events. It is up to the Regional Representative
as to whether they want to provide a concours for attendees. Each geographical area is
unique and the Regional Representative is best suited to decide if such an activity is to
be provided.
Check the Rally Calendar at www.tincantourists.com for a listing of other
events.
Designates “Official TCT Gathering”
The registration forms are all available on Rally Registration page on the site:
http://www.tincantourists.com/rallyregistration.php or select "Rally Registrations"
under Camp Office on the menu
Paypal forms will become available as the registration process is set up.
The event hosts will post downloadable forms and in some cases Paypal registration
procedures.

legendary shenanigans – The Weiner Cookout, The Morning Coffee Klatches, Affagoto
Time, Sunset Watching, Worst Tchotchke Contest, Dancing, Strolling Singers, The Crock
Pot Dinner and the Legendary and Entertaining Stir Fry. Spontaneous fun tends to
happen as well! A few other surprises are in the planning stages. We will have 75 Sites
- but the Park will let us double up on several of them. RSVP ASAP TCTers!

39th annual Old Time Fiddlers Picnic
When: August 2-4, 2013
Where: Mercier Ranch, one mile South of Livingston, Montana (I-90) on US 89
See fiddlerspicnic.blogspot.com for more details on the picnic. It is a good deal more
than a picnic and welcomes any players of roots music. Lots of jamming around the
campground which is on the Old Mercier Ranch. While there are spectators there are a
good deal more musicians.
Tin Can Tourists are invited to gather in conjunction with the Picnic. It is dry camping
with no electric, but there are porta potties provided, a free breakfast on Sun and a pot
luck with meet supplied Sat afternoon. Camping is free but you must be a TCT member
(TCT membership available on site) and TCT members are expected to contribute for
an event button to the tune of $25 each. We'll camp together on the site. Wonderful to
go to sleep under the Montana sky being serenaded by bluegrass, old timey, mountain,
Celtic, gospel, cowboy singers and the like.
Since there is a heavy emphasis on musicians we are hoping that many of the TCT
members also bring and play their instruments. Dogs are welcome but keep them under
control. Too dry this time of year for campfires on this ranch but propane campfires are
OK. We plan to have a dash plaque and a few trophies but mainly this is just a great
camp out.
US 89 is the Northern Gateway to the Yellowstone National Park and at the head of
Paradise Valley which pretty much says it all. If you flyfish, hike, mountain bike or
whatever, this is the event for you.

Gregory Johnson's "mobile hermitage" feels bigger inside than you might think. (Jay Shafer/Courtesy of
Gregory Johnson)
When Gregory Johnson says he lives in a tiny house, he’s not kidding. His entire house--an attractive
chalet with a bed, bathroom, dining room table and kitchen--is just 7 feet wide and 10 feet long.
30 | P a g e
“On vacation most people would love to go and live in some little cottage somewhere, a one-room
sparsely furnished facility,” said Johnson, who lives in Iowa City. “Nobody ever thinks to live like that on
a day-to-day basis. But what I do is, I try to live every day as though it’s a vacation.”
As the American landscape is increasingly peppered with overgrown palaces that many call
“McMansions,” homeowners like Johnson have opted for the opposite extreme. These houses aren’t
just small, they’re tiny. And unlike the denizens of cramped apartments in cities, the inhabitants of tiny
houses choose to live in them not despite, but because of their miniature size.
The last half decade has seen American houses beef up like baseball players pumped up on steroids.
According to the National Association of Homebuilders, the average American house in 1950 had a total
floor area of 983 square feet. By 2004, that number had more than doubled to 2,314 square feet.
Organizations like the National Trust for Historic Preservation worry that historic neighborhoods are
being ruined as homes are torn down to make way for houses two or three times larger.
Homeowners like Johnson share that frustration and prefer to live in houses without an inch of unused
space. Bigger than a child’s playhouse but much smaller than a typical Manhattan studio apartment,
the house the 41-year-old built and has lived in since 2003 features metal roofing, exposed stud
interior walls and red oak flooring.
The house, which is on wheels and is parked in the backyard of his parents’ house, has been dubbed
the “mobile hermitage.” It has electricity and running water, but he chooses not to use them. Instead,
he showers at his job each morning and lights the place at night with the LED light from the front of his
bicycle. The house has high ceilings and a sleeping loft, which make it feel more spacious, he says.
Johnson, a technology consultant, is the founder of the Small House Society, which has a small but
growing mailing list of more than 200, including architecture firms and urban planners. The group’s
monthly e-mail newsletter offers tips on everything from housing code battles to homeowners
insurance, two common stumbling blocks for enthusiasts.
Many owners of tiny houses are driven by a commitment to preserve the environment. Fewer building
materials, they point out, mean reduced building waste. And because the houses are easier (and
cheaper) to heat than typical homes, reduced energy usage means decreased greenhouse gas
emissions.
The biggest hurdle in getting homebuyers to warm up to the idea of tiny houses is that the dwellings
are just too, well, tiny. But proponents say the perception of spaciousness can be a matter of design.
“I get claustrophobic in big houses if they’re poorly designed or too crowded,” said Jay Shafer, who
started the Tumbleweed Tiny House Co. and helped Johnson build his little house after building his own
70-square-foot home in 1997. “But I don’t get claustrophobic in a small house as long as it’s well made,
unless there are too many people inside.”
Tiny houses actually predate McMansions. Henry David Thoreau lived in a house near Walden Pond in
Massachusetts that was just 150 square feet.
Author Lester Walker features Thoreau’s house and more than 40 other variations on the theme in
“Tiny Houses: or How to Get Away From It All.”
Following the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, mini “earthquake houses” were built to house
displaced residents, according to Walker. In the Carolinas, “pout houses” sprang up in backyards to
provide spouses who lost a domestic argument a place to spend the night. In some of the more rural
areas of Texas, where the family ranch was inconveniently far from church, families would build tiny
houses close to town for a place to sleep on Saturday nights, making it easy to get to Sunday services.
According to Walker, the modern-day appeal of tiny houses is simple. “They’re cute; they’re little baby
houses,” he said. “You like puppy dogs and babies. It’s the same thing.”
For others, the draw of tiny houses is far more practical. They can provide a housing alternative when
there are no other options.
After Julie Martin’s home in Bay St. Louis on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi was destroyed by Hurricane
Katrina, she lived on a FEMA-sponsored cruise ship for four and a half months. When she heard about
Shafer’s tiny houses, she knew she had found the way to have a private space she could call home
until the reconstruction of her community was complete, a process that could take years. Her tiny
house arrived in late February.
“I love it! It’s wonderful!” she said. “I could live in this for a long time."
31 | P a g e
Before the hurricane, Martin had a business restoring the grand historic homes for which the region is
known. Her own home, built two years before George Washington’s inauguration, was the oldest on
the Gulf Coast, she said, until it was washed away by the storm. With her home and business
destroyed and the area in what she calls “survival mode,” Martin saw a business opportunity in tiny
homes. She worked with Shafer to design a special Gulf Coast model of a tiny house, with a front
porch, asymmetrical windows and doors, porcelain faucet handles and other details typical of the area’s
old homes.
The houses may be small, but Martin says they have two details she deemed essential: a full bathtub
and a walk-in closet.
Because they’re built to last and can be set on property later as a guest cottage, Martin says the tiny
houses, which start at $37,000, will appreciate in value, unlike a trailer. She says inquiries are already
starting to pour in.
“It’s just cozy. It has a little homey cabin feeling,” she said, speaking on her cell phone from inside her
brand-new miniature house. “It’s the anti-FEMA trailer.”
