When you think of celebrities and the cars they own, you probably envision
Ferraris, Bentleys, Hummers, Mercedes, BMW, etc. But have you ever
wondered if any celebrities had the same interest as we do and own Mustangs?
Well I recently got curious and was told about Mariah Carey driving a mustang in
a movie called Tennessee, so I decided to do some research. Here is a little info
that I came up with. I will list the owners and the Mustangs they own, with maybe
a tad on insight.
1. Jay Leno owns a 1965 Shelby GT350. Now we all know that Jay is a huge
collector of cars, and I am sure he may own more Mustangs, but this is the only
one I could verify.
2. President Bill Clinton owns a 1967 Mustang Convertible, and has said he
found it very hard to leave the car behind in Arkansas when he lived at the White
House.

About the Club
The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan (MOCSEM) was founded in November 1975 by a group of
individuals with the desire to protect and preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun filled cars ever
made available. We are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair of the many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car.
Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fastback from 1964½ to the 2005 GT or the 2007 Cobra, we love them all. The mission
of club members is to collect, restore and preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories of the people and the
roles that they played in making this one of the great cars of the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a requirement for
membership, your enthusiasm, expertise and and/or love of the automobile are most welcome.
Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years. Club members are
always exchanging information, providing sources for parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or maintaining their
Mustangs. Our members are a diverse group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a
great appreciation for the Ford Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
Our monthly newsletter, The Accelerator, provides the members with reports on club activities, technical information,
advertisements and business service locations and more. Some club activities include car shows, picnics, sporting events,
cruise nights and technical sessions.

3. Charlie Sheen owns two Mustangs, a classic 1966
Mustang GT which is on display at Galpin Auto Sports in
Van Nuys, California. He also owns a 1968 Shelby
Mustang that was featured in the movie Money Talks.
4. Patrick Dempsey also owns two Mustangs. He actually
races his Mustang FR500C and also has a beautiful 1965
Mustang Coupe that was featured at the 2007 SEMA
show.
5. Jim Morrison owned only one car in his life and it was a
1967 night mist blue Shelby GT500. The rumor is that he
wrapped it around a telephone pole in Hollywood.
President Bill Clinton’s ’67 Mustang Convertible
6. Kelly Clarkson has had two Mustangs. She sold her
―Galpinized‖ hot pink Mustang, but still owns a 2007
red/white striped GT.
7. Tim Allen is a huge fan of the Saleen Mustang as he
beat Jay Leno and his Buick Grand National in a burn out
contest on The Tonight Show. Tim also owns a 1968
Shelby GT500KR.
8. Sammy Hagar has owned a few Mustangs in his day,
most recently a 1967 Shelby GT500. He is also the owner
of the first GCM-R Mustang that was featured at last
year’s Detroit Autorama.
9. Bob Seger is a big Muscle car fan and owns a 1969
Shelby GT350.
Charlie Sheen’s ’66 Mustang GT
10. Eminem bought a 1999 Mustang Convertible with his
first royalty check after becoming a star. He sold that car
to a 12-year-old girl in 2002.
11. Fergie also even talks about owning a Mustang in her
song Glamorous and shows her driving a fox body
convertible in her video.
12. Farrah Fawcett used to own a Cobra II Mustang back
in the Charlie's Angels days.
Those are a few of the celebrities who share our passion
and love for the Mustang. I am quite sure there are a
million more out there too. Also, the Ford Mustang is the
most product placed car by Ford in the movie world.

The board has been working on the calendar for the
coming season and needless to say, you could find
something to do virtually every day of the summer. If it
seems like there’s a lot on the calendar, that’s intentional.
We make an effort to ensure that there is something to fit
everyone’s taste and schedule.
Don’t forget in March we have the bowling party on the
th
th
13 at Merri-Bowl and the Shop & Swap on the 27 at
th
Village Ford. Our first cruise-in will be April 25 at Sonic in
Southgate and we’ll be doing our regular monthly cruiseins at Dario’s and ice cream socials at Culver’s starting in
May. We’ll also add in some additional cruise-ins as we
find interesting locations.
Again this year we will be travelling to the All-Ford
rd
th
Nationals in Carlisle, PA June 3 – June 6 . This is a
huge show featuring over 2,000 cars and a massive swap
meet featuring hundreds of vendors. This year we will be
staying at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg West. A block of
rooms is available to MOCSEM members at a discounted
rate. You are responsible for making your own hotel
reservations and registering for the show. There are only a
few rooms available and they go fast so if you are
interested in attending you should act quickly. Contact

Detroit AutoRama is one of, if not ―the‖ premier custom car
show in the country. It features over 1,000 of the best
custom vehicles from around the country and this year
MOCSEM was proud to be represented by a display on
the main show floor. 13 club members applied and 4 were
chosen by AutoRama organizers for the display.
The MOCSEM banner was displayed prominently in the
center of the club display which was located centrally in
the hall near the Meguiar’s display. Featured in the club
display were:
Mike Sove’s 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback
Gary Kohn’s 2003 Mustang Cobra
Ron Mason’s 2008 Mustang GT
John Long’s 2006 Mustang GT Steeda Q400
The cars all looked great, the result of many hours of effort
that went into preparing them for the show. Setup was
especially challenging given the weather conditions on
move-in day. Extra credit goes out to Ron who drove his
car down to Cobo in the snow! That’s dedication.
Down there on Saturday evening I couldn’t help but notice
all the activity on the show floor. The aisles were crowded
with people and there was a steady flow of spectators
taking pictures and asking questions about the Mustangs.
Even among the high priced, highly customized trailer
queens that dominate AutoRama, the Mustangs seemed
to connect with people—and the judges.

Gary Kohn took 3 place in the Custom Convertible class,
rd
Ron Mason took 3
place in the 2008 and Up
st
Conservative Hardtop class, and John Long got 1 place
in the 2000 – 2007 Conservative Hardtop class.
Congratulations guys!

Ford Press Release
MERCHANDISE: We will order t-shirts with the 35th
Anniversary logo on them. The colors are black, white,
and gray. We are ordering 150 license plate frames. We
are ordering antenna flags: 10 yellow/black, 10 blue/white,
10 black/silver, 10 red/white, and 10 white/navy. We are
ordering 12 teddy bears with the 35th Anniversary logo.
EDITOR: The website had 2/3 higher usage in 2009 than
in 2008. Craig purchased a new printer. It is a faster
printer to aid in the workload and the toner cartridges are
high volume. Supplies will be cheaper so the printer will
more than pay for itself within the year and result in lower
production costs long term. Craig suggests having demo
nights with the Mustangs along with our cruise-ins.
MCA REP: Mike Sove has a new vinyl business he is
starting. He brought a sample 35th Anniversary logo on
plexi to show some work. It will be on display at the
general meeting.
MEMBERSHIP: May 15 is the Blue Collar Performance

Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) engineers are taking
high performance to a new level with the 2011 Ford
Shelby GT500, resulting in a car that has an all-new
aluminum-block engine, even better driving dynamics and
handling, improved fuel economy and more horsepower
than ever.
―The SVT team continues to push the performance
standards of the Shelby to even higher levels and better
refinement,‖ said Jost Capito, director of global
performance vehicles and motorsports business
development. ―All the changes we made reflect a desire

for even better handling and outstanding driving dynamics
– from weight savings to improved balance.‖
Weight savings, new technology headline allnew aluminum engine
The 2011 Shelby GT500 is powered by an all-new
aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 engine, which
produces 550 horsepower and 510 ft.-lb. of torque, a 10
horsepower increase versus the 2010 model. The engine
also is 102 pounds lighter than its predecessor, delivering
a better power-to-weight ratio, improved fuel economy,
acceleration, handling and steering precision.
Page 7
engine from this supercar and make it available in a
Mustang is impressive,‖ said Kerry Baldori, SVT global
performance vehicle chief functional engineer. ―The
aluminum-block engine is robust and strong enough to
produce the performance numbers and durability our
customers demand.‖
―Cutting weight to improve performance is a tradition
among hot rodders,‖ said Carroll Shelby, founder of
Shelby American. ―It might not be as sexy as adding more
horsepower or bigger brakes, but shaving pounds off of a
car is the single smartest move you can make.‖
The new engine uses state-of-the-art Plasma Transferred
Wire Arc (PTWA) liner coating, a process that applies a
150-micron composite coating that contains nanoparticles
on the internal surfaces of engine cylinder bores, replacing
cast-iron liners typically used in aluminum engine blocks.
The Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation
honored the inventors of the Ford-patented PTWA
technology with the 2009 National Inventor of the Year
Award.
This is the first Ford application of the technology, and it
offers improved overall performance and durability, along
with functional benefits of reduced friction between piston
rings and cylinder bores, improved heat transfer due to
increased surface contact area and a weight savings of
8.5 pounds compared to a typical steel-sleeved aluminum
block. A mechanical roughening process provides higher
material adhesion for the spray coating.
The PTWA process uses air and electricity to create a
plasma jet of 35,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which melts a
steel wire that is fed into a rotating spray gun. Using
atomized air, the melted steel wire is blown into a specially
machined surface of the aluminum-block engine cylinder
bore. In the process of melting and applying the metal to
the surface, the steel wire oxidizes, creating a composite
coating consisting of both iron and iron oxide.
―Ford’s Global Research and Advanced Engineering looks
to all industries for advanced technologies – and this
comes from aerospace. It’s the same technology you
would find on aircraft engines,‖ said Glenn Jorgensen,
SVT powertrain team leader. ―We’ve invented a coating as
a replacement for cast iron that delivers improvements in
power and performance and fuel economy.‖
The new engine also has its roots in the iconic Ford GT.
The new 5.4-liter engine is an evolution of the GT engine,
with improved block structure through the use of a unique
bulkhead chilled process and six-bolt billet main bearing
caps. This new advanced engine will exceed Ford GT
performance with its traditional supercharger technology.
―The Ford GT has solidified itself as one of the world’s
most coveted supercars. To make improvements to the
Increased power and increased fuel economy
The 2011 Shelby GT500 combines power and fuel
economy into one impressive package. This 2011 Shelby
GT500 will be the first modern Shelby without the gas
guzzler tax, thanks to the EPA-projected 23 mpg highway
and 15 mpg city it will deliver. This is up from 22 mpg
highway and 14 mpg city for the 2010 model.
The 5.4-liter V-8 achieves 80 percent of its torque between
1,750 and 6,250 rpm, giving the car a higher level of
performance feel. A larger two-row intercooler for the
supercharger system has 40 percent more cooling
capacity, helping to make power more consistent in higher
ambient conditions.
Fuel economy gains come from the new 102-pound-lighter
aluminum-block engine, EPAS and detailed aerodynamic
changes to the underside of the vehicle.
Dramatic performance upgrades
New for 2011 is an SVT Performance Package for
enthusiasts who want even more performance out of their
Shelby GT500 for racetrack-ready driving dynamics.
Complete with all-new Goodyear Eagle® F1 SuperCar G:
2 tires that SVT engineers worked directly with Goodyear
to develop, the car is ready to race. The tires offer superb
dry traction and precise handling, complete with a raceinspired high-performance tread compound.
The optional package also offers unique styling, lighter
wheels, a higher rear axle ratio and stiffer springs, and it is
available on both the convertible and coupe. Data show
the 2011 coupe with the SVT Performance Package is 3.0
seconds faster per lap than the 2010 Shelby GT500 on a
2.3-mile test track.
Carried over from 2010, the 2011 Shelby GT500 features
AdvanceTrac®, Ford’s stability control system with several
options for performance. Calibration of the system for the

the
SVT has worked very hard to make EPAS better than the
outgoing hydraulic steering system. The addition of EPAS
makes for a dramatic contribution to Shelby GT500 driving
dynamics, with improved torque build-up and road feel that
delivers quicker and more precise steering, increased
effort on the racetrack or winding roads, and reduced
effort in low-speed parking maneuvers.
Slotted brake dust shields were added to improve brake
cooling and handling, and a new pedal box improves
clutch and pedal efforts even more. A lowered ride height
of 11 millimeters in front and 8 millimeters at the rear
provides a sportier attitude and improved handling.
More engine sound, less road noise
For 2011, Shelby GT500 also benefits from NVH (noise,
vibration and harshness) improvements. Overall road
noise is reduced by 20 percent versus the 2010 Shelby.
Actions undertaken to achieve this improvement include
additional sound-deadening material on either side of the
instrument panel, additional sound absorption behind
interior trim panels, and a rear wheel arch liner to reduce
noise on gravel or wet surfaces – all resulting in the driver
hearing more exhaust and engine sound and less road
and air noise.
The specially formulated glass also protects interior fabric
material from solar radiation deterioration and
discoloration by reducing solar light transmittance. To help
improve acoustics and interior quietness, the glass
features a layer of vinyl that reduces noise, vibration and
harshness.
Other new convenience technologies include:
Standard HID (high-intensity discharge)
headlamps
MyKey™ programmable vehicle key
Integrated spotter mirror
Fold-down rear headrests
―Whether you’re looking to take the GT500 out on the
streets or have some fun at the track,‖ Capito says, ―this
car will satisfy the most discriminating performance driving
enthusiasts.‖
Classified Ads
The Shelby GT500 convertible model features enhanced
structural rigidity, with lateral stiffness improved by 12
percent versus the 2010 model. The V-brace has been
stiffened by adding gussets. The secondary crossmember
also has been stiffened, while a front Z-brace has been
added, connecting primary and secondary crossmembers.
A-pillar stiffening foam has been added to increase rigidity.
The structural improvements to the convertible gave SVT
the opportunity to be more sport-oriented in the chassis
tuning, without trading comfort. Along with the chassis and
structural improvements, the 2011 model also will get
standard 19-inch aluminum wheels.
―One of the biggest changes for this Shelby is that the
convertible acts and feels like a coupe,‖ said Jamal
Hameedi, SVT chief nameplate engineer. ―Before, they
had a very different character, and the convertible is taking
a big step in the sportiness and handling precision area,
without degrading the ride.‖
GT500 gets a new exhaust for 2011, roaring with an even
more aggressive sound than the 2010 model. The 2.75inch exhaust with all-new tuning helped to deliver the
additional 10 horsepower.
Added convenience content
New for 2011 is an optional glass roof, providing
customers with a less expensive option than a convertible
and without compromising the coupe’s versatility,
headroom or climate-controlled environment.

truly unique item to dress out your S197 Mustang. Unique
because each item is custom engraved for you. Any
saying, any design, whatever you wish. Why settle for
some "off-the-shelf" item that everyone else has when you
can have yours custom engraved. A great way to set off
the engine bay and/or your interior from everyone else's.
These items are made of a two part composite material
that can withstand the heat while looking great for many
years. With a stainless/brushed aluminum look they will fit
right in with every color combination of Mustang available
and really make your Mustang stand out from the crowd.

Wind Deflectors - We manufacture windstops a.k.a. wind
deflectors, as original equipment for convertibles the
World over. In this case, we produce the OE windstop for
the 4th generation Mustang and then the windstop for the
5th generation Mustang. I have attached some pictures of
my ’03 Cobra and a 2007 6 cylinder car with the later
version fitted. We would like to take half a page and
advertise both, with special deals for us, the members.

For Sale - For sale! A survivor 1970 Mach 1 Mustang in
great restorable condition! The real deal! The pictures tell
the tale of this vintage

what is believed to be
the
original

Cleveland motor, which
does not run but is
loose, and trans which
has clear red fluid, dual
exhaust and mostly
excellent glass except
for a small crack on the driver's side wind shield. The
doors, deck lid and hood close solid with an adjustment
needed for the hood hinges. The Mach 1 has rust but is a
solid restoration candidate! A driver's side floorpan is
included in the sale! This Mach 1 does not run or drive or
stop - needs restoration but it is not a clone - this is a real
Mach 1 muscle car! ! ! ! ! The area around and under the
rear fastback glass is not rusted as well as the front
windshield surround which is solid and rust free. The inner
fender skirts and shock towers are Rust free! The VIN
shows this Mach 1 to be a 1970, built in New Jersey, with
the Mach 1 sports Roof and a V8 351 CID 2V motor.
Loose parts are included in the sale. The Mach 1 is a
great start for your next restoration project. I will give you
