Section 2: To the Faculty Research Mentor
Each MMUF student will work with a Faculty Research Mentor who will oversee the student’s
research, including summer research. Faculty Research Mentors are expected to meet with
their MMUF student during the year, participate in periodic MMUF events, and communicate
with the MMUF Academic Coordinators. Faculty Research Mentors will receive a “Book”
Award of $1,000 per year. This funding can be used for books, research materials, data
packages, research assistants (who could be MMUF Fellows, who can also draw on term-time
stipends) and conference travel. Generally, Faculty Mentors are expected to mentor no more
than two MMUF Fellows at a time; faculty mentors are limited to one award at any given time.
The MMUF applicant above has named you as their prospective Faculty Research Mentor.
The MMUF Selection Committee would appreciate (1) your agreement to serve as the
student’s research mentor, and (2) your candid evaluation of the individual’s research potential
and academic promise. The MMUF program is seeking students with the aspirations and
potential for a faculty career in core Mellon Fields of study (see eligible list
at http://www.mmuf.org/about/eligible-fields-study)
Please email this form and your Faculty Research Mentor Statement
to [email protected] . Please note in the subject line, “Faculty Mentor
Statement for” and insert the applicant’s name.
