Newsletter No. 11 – 30th April 2015
Dear Parents,
Our ANZAC Day Service last Thursday was a very
special occasion that included beautiful presentations by
student representatives from Years 1-6. Our choir
performed superbly as they sang "From the Green Hills
of Albany". Special thanks to Mrs Pryor and Miss
Martino for their work with the choir and to Mrs Brook
for organising the event.
Alex from Year 1 Room 2 wrote this recount of the
service:
ANZAC Service
This morning we went to the hall for an ANZAC
ceremony. We went to commemorate ANZAC Day.
We sat down very quietly. Then people spoke about the
war. Next the big kids sang a new song. After that Tom
and Mikayla put the wreath between the flags. It was
very moving.
Most Generous:
This was also our first ANZAC service to feature both
the Australian and New Zealand flags. Thank you to the
McCready family for their very generous donation of the
NZ flag. We are sure this will feature in our ANZAC
services for years to come and their gift is very much
appreciated by the staff and students.
On ANZAC Day, the wreath donated by our P&C for
our service, was laid during the South Perth ANZAC
Day Service in the City's Memorial Gardens. Thank you
to the parents and students who represented our school
at this very special event.
Fund Raising to help the Nepalese
As you may have heard there has been an earth quake in
Nepal that has affected the lives of thousands of people.
At Como Primary School we have families who come
from that part of the world, as such the prefects and
students from Rooms 8 & 9 are going to hold a cupcake
stall next Thursday 7th May to raise funds to send to
Nepal. Cupcakes will sell for $1.00 or 50c each
depending on the size.

The Virtues
Courage
Signs of Success
Congratulations! You are practising courage when
you…
 Do what is right for you even when it is hard or
scary.
 Find strength in your heart even when you are
afraid
 Are willing to try new things
 Admit mistakes and learn from them
 Make amends when you do something wrong
 Ask for help.
Attendance
Thank you to parents for your support in advising the
school when children are absent. The Skoolbag app is
being used increasingly but an email, a phone call, a note
or an entry in the Student Diary are equally effective.
School Voluntary Contributions
Thank you to the parents who have already paid these.
To date 77% of families have contributed. Reminder
letters have been sent out to parents who may have
overlooked this.
The contribution requested is $60.00 per child.

We were super busy last
week, and thanks to the
volunteers and the amazing
Christine Mann, we got the
job done! Lunch orders at
the canteen reached an alltime high on Friday and we thank everyone who has
made the new winter menu a huge success so far! We
would like to receive any feedback good or bad. Our
“Thursday Specials” began today. The first special was
the BLT Sandwich or wrap with Drink, or Homemade
Chicken Noodle Soup with roll and drink for $5.00. We
hope you enjoyed these healthy options. Our Raffle
“give-away” last week was a success. Those who
ordered a Green Menu item received a raffle ticket and
at 12:30 we announced the winners and they could have
either a Hot Chocolate or Ice Cream. These raffles will
continue each Wednesday and Friday. Again, if you
order a green menu item you receive a raffle ticket. If
the theme changes we will let you know. We still need
volunteers for Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Anyone interested please contact me or Christine. Thank
you! Tanya Hopper Canteen Coordinator 0473359292

Student Banking
Hi Everyone! Firstly, I would like to give a big thank
you to Lyna Usher who has kindly volunteered to help
me with school banking on Fridays. It is wonderful to
see so many students doing school banking. The winner
of the $25 Dymocks Voucher was Meghana M!
Congratulations and thank you for using School
Banking. The prize draw for this term involves a little bit
of homework. I want to know what you are saving up for
and in turn three school bankers will win $5 each
deposited into their accounts to help towards their saving
goal. You can pick up an entry form during school
banking. There will be an Account Opening Session held
at the school on Monday, 4th May at 2:30pm outside the
undercover area for those interested in finding out more

School Banking Account Opening Day
Como Primary School is excited to offer the
Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all
students.
The School Banking program provides children with an
opportunity to make deposits into their personal
Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account at school
each week. The program is about how often your child
makes deposits, not how much they deposit.
To encourage regular savings behaviour the program
offers an exciting Rewards Program. Every deposit
earns your child a Dollarmites token, and once they‟ve
collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for a reward.
The rewards items available during 2015 are:
 . ET DVD, released Term 1
 . Planet Handball, released Term 1
 . Invisible Ink Martian Pen, released Term 2
 . Intergalactic Rocket, released Term 2
 . Glow-in-the-Dark Solar System, released Term 3
 . Cosmic Light Beam Torch, released Term 3
 . Outer Space Savers Money Box, released Term 4
 . Lunar Light Band, released Term 4
The Commonwealth Bank will be providing the
opportunity for you to open a bank account for
your child/ren on Monday 4th May from 2:30pm
onwards outside the Undercover Area.
If you are interested in opening a Commonwealth Bank
Youthsaver account for your child please bring along
your driver‟s licence or another form of photographic
identification. (Please see attached for a list of
alternative ID). No identification is required for your
child attending school, as the school will confirm their
