Catherine Lorimer, from Ishigaki Island Okinawa/
Japan, has come to Driving Creek Potteries for a
few months as artist in residence. Both her parents
are potters who were part of the early days here at
Driving Creek Potteries. In Japan Catheryne shares
a studio with her mother, Nami Miyoshi, but has
come to work with her father, Paul Lorimer, who
currently stays again at Driving Creek.
Catherine’s intricate decoration in bright primal
colours reflects the flora and fauna of subtropical
Okinawa with its turquoise blue coral lagoons, bright
red, yellow flowers and multicoloured birds and fish.
We are very fortunate to have her be part of this
year’s Artstour.

Marian’s interest in fabric, with its vibrant colours,
many textures and designs, has been reinterpreted
using clay. Visit the shared gallery of Marian and
Mike Cogswell, M&M Studios, with beautiful work
to enjoy, combined with stunning views within a bush
clad setting.

Moths and butterflies are universally a symbol of
transformation and moths are an ancient symbol
of the psyche. The mysterious journey from the
caterpillar to a being of untouchable, ephemeral
beauty and inexplicable strength symbolises the
endless transformations we make on or own brief
journey through life.
Bronwyn’s current work focusses on transcendence;
the release of the spirit from the limitations of
matter; a passage from one ontological plane to
another; a passage from the conditioned to the
unconditioned.
