Flight: Animals and Aviation
Essay Contest
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are teaming up to invite
Northeast Ohio middle school students in grades 6 through 8 to take part in an aviation essay contest.
Students will enter by writing a one page essay that compares and contrasts flight between animals and
airplanes. They will include pertinent information covered in their course work and outside resources.
(This can include the award-winning Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Online Resource Library accessible at
http://resourcelibrary.clemetzoo.com/).
A grand prize winner will receive tickets for their classmates (maximum of 40) and teacher to come to the Zoo to
see Professor Wylde’s Live Animal Show in the Savanna Theatre that includes flight demonstrations from birds.
The winning student and their teacher will receive a Meet the Keeper experience as well.
Essays should be 250 words or less. They will be judged by a panel of representatives from Cleveland Metroparks
Zoo and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Winning essays will be selected based on creativity, fact usage,
and focus on topic. Submissions must be received via mail or electronically by May 31, 2015 to qualify.
