will share that information as soon as it
is available.
Wake Up and Read
Creech Road is participating in the
Wake Up and Read book drive. We will
be collecting gently used and new
books at CRES until March 16th. CRES
is a recipient of the book drive and
every student will be able to choose 10
free books to take home during the
week of May 11-15.
Family Recess Night
Do you like to play games and act like a
kid every now and then? Well here is
your chance!! Come out to the 1st
Annual Creech Road Family Recess
Night Wednesday, March 18, 2015
from 6-8pm at Creech Road
Elementary School Gym. Come out,
play games and have fun with family
and friends.
Homework Help
Southeast Regional Library’s Teen
Leadership Corps announces
Homework and Reading Buddies, an
exciting program that pairs TLC
volunteers with younger students for
homework help and reading practice.
We are at the library every Wednesday
afternoon from 4 - 6. This is a drop-in
program, no advance registration
is necessary. Teens work with students
to help them complete homework or
practice their reading skills in a
positive, safe environment.
School and student safety is
vitally important, not just to our
Creech Road family, but to Wake
County Public schools as well.
We are eager to let you know
about some changes that are
coming to our school. First, we
are pleased to announce that Mr.
Dana Drisko is the security
investigator now assigned to
Creech Road. He has a
background in law enforcement
and has been with Wake County
for some time already. He has
already been to our school and
we are excited about the
upgrades he is planning for us.
We will be adding additional
cameras, both inside and outside
the building, as well as updating
existing cameras. In addition, we
will be replacing the current key
system for exterior doors with
card access. Finally, an audio and
camera system will be attached
to the front door to allow visitors
to be screened and ‘buzzed in’!
We are looking forward to the
increased level of safety these
upgrades will provide.
Peachjar is Here
Wake County Public School
System has launched a new
electronic flyer communication
tool called “Peachjar.” We can
now send flyers and newsletters
electronically to your inbox.
These eflyers can also be viewed
by clicking on the Peachjar button
that has been placed on our
school’s website. This “green”
initiative will save our schools
tons of paper and reduce copy
costs.

EOG News
Can you believe it? The End-of-Grade
(EOGs) Tests are right around the corner
– 10 weeks to be exact. Every student in
third, fourth, and fifth grade will take
the reading and math EOGs AND fifth
graders also take the science EOG.
Testing is the last three weeks of school,
so May 18th is the first official day of
testing. How can you help your child
prepare for the tests? Here are several
ways:






Remind your child to pay attention
in class and focus-in on the
information shared.
Asking your child questions as to
what he/she learned in math,
reading, or science.
Reading aloud to your child. Asking
two questions about what you just
read.
Setting a timer for 45 minutes and
ask your child to focus on reading
the entire time.
(Each week set the timer
for 5 additional minutes – helping
increase stamina.)
After 45 minutes, ask your child to
“retell” or tell you as much as
he/she can about what they read.
Remind your student to use the
following strategies for math and
reading:
o Asking Themselves
Questions (Do I
understand what I just
read? Does it make
sense?)

A Note from our 5th Grade
Counselor
If you are like me, it is hard to
believe that in a few short
months our 5th grade students
will be headed off to Middle
School! Wow! The transition
can be both very exciting and a
little stressful. Together, I’d like
to work with you and your child
to make this transition as smooth
and as stress-free as possible.
Today your child is bringing
home information listing the
Open Houses for all our feeder
middle schools. Next Tuesday,
March 10th, the School Counselor
from North Garner Middle School
will be talking about the middle
school experience with the 5th
Grade. The Middle School
Registration Forms will come
home the first part of April.
Please feel free to contact me if
you have any questions about
the middle school registration
process or preparing your child
for middle school.
Sincerely,
Sarah Carter, 5th Grade School
