Information for May 5-9 Auditions

4 PM - 8 PM oboe, English horn,
bassoon, percussion, harp and
piano
Friday, May 8, 2015
4 PM - 8 PM violin, viola, cello,
string bass, piccolo, flute, clarinet,
bass clarinet, saxophone, French
horn, cornet, trumpet, trombone,
baritone, euphonium, and tuba
Saturday, May 9, 2015
9 AM - 1 PM violin, viola, cello,
and string bass
9AM - 2PM piccolo, flute, clarinet,
bass clarinet, saxophone, French
horn, cornet, trumpet, trombone,
baritone, euphonium, and tuba

There is a $10 non-refundable
audition fee payable at the time of
audition. Plan on arriving at least
15 minutes prior to your audition in
order to warm up.
NOTE: Throughout the year, if
additional instrumentation is needed,
individual auditions are available.
Check with the CSYSA office for
more information. Mid-year auditions
for open positions are held in
September and December.

Colorado Springs Youth Symphony
Collegiate Level Orchestra
—Travels regionally and internationally
alternating years. Will be traveling internationally
in 2016.
-1 scale of the musician’s choice from the
list below

-Two audition excerpts
-For Ovation and Youth Symphony ONLYtwo minute maximum solo excerpt of your
choice.

AUDITION PREPARATIONS
General requirements for percussion
-1 scale of musician’s choice
-1 scale of judge’s choice
commensurate with experience
-Two audition excerpts at a tempo
appropriate for you
-Sightreading

Scales selected from the following:
Wolfgang: C G D - 1 octave
Amadeus: C G D A F - 1 octave
Vivace: C G D A F Bflat Major and relative
minor - 2 octaves
Ovation: C G D A F Bflat Eflat Major
and and relative minor - 3 octaves when
possible
Youth Symphony: all majors and minors
through 4 sharps and 4 flats, 3 octaves
General requirements
for woodwinds and brass
-Chromatic scale ascending & descending
from your lowest possible note to your
highest possible note at your fastest
controlled speed, slurred and tongued
-Two audition excerpts
-Sightreading
-To be considered for the top three
groups, prepare a two minute maximum
solo excerpt of your choice.

The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association, founded in 1980, is an internationally acclaimed non-profit organization that
offers challenging and diverse musical experiences to develop young people as musicians and leaders. Auditions are open to
students who are prepared to make a commitment to the entire rehearsal and performance schedule, including tours and camps.
Students are required and expected to participate in their school music program.
