Chief Executive Officer’s Report
The Chairman said that this part of the meeting was open to
the public through live broadcast at the West Kowloon Cultural
District (WKCD) website. At the Chairman’s invitation, Mr Michael
LYNCH gave an update on various aspects of the Authority’s work
summarized as follows:
(a)
WKCD Public Open Space Bylaw: Management had
consulted the WKCDA Consultation Panel, Yau Tsim Mong
District
Council,
arts
and
cultural
groups
and
representatives of nearby residents. Board Chairman joined
the town hall meeting for 18 District Councils on 9 March
2015 to brief District Councils members on the latest
development of the WKCD and received feedback on the draft
Bylaw. WKCDA would refine the draft Bylaw before
introducing it to LegCo for positive vetting.
(b)
Performing Arts Programme: Ticket sales, media coverage
and marketing efforts for “Rising Stars of Cantonese Opera”
held from 21 February to 2 March 2015 were reported.
(c)
M+ Programme: The fourth M+ Public Forum “Where We are
Now and Where We are Going” was held on 10 March 2015.
“Mobile M+: Moving Images” was ongoing until 26 April 2015.
(d)
WKCDA’s Annual Press Conference at Art Basel (14
March 2015): International media were updated on the
progress and development of various facilities and on the
progress of M+.
(e)
M+ Internship programme for Venice Biennale: The
programme included taking 12 interns to Venice to support
the exhibition by TSANG Kin-wah curated by M+ as Hong
Kong’s participation at the Venice Biennale.

Acquisition: M+ acquired the painting ´S. S. Rajputana
leaving the port of Bombay – 29th August 1931´ by the
contemporary Indian artist Atul Dodiya with the Brown
Family Annual Acquisition Fund at Art Basel HK 2015.
2.
The Chairman welcomed the internship programme which
was in line with the Government’s initiative to broaden students’
exposure. She asked how the interns were selected and whether they
would be retained after the Venice Biennale.
Dr Lars NITTVE
explained the selection process and criteria and that interns would
not be retained by default but the experience would be taken into
account if they applied to join M+ in the future.
3.
Dr KAN Tai-keung commented that Venice Biennale was now
being curated by M+ and queried its decision on presenting solo
exhibitions instead of dual/group exhibitions which the Arts
Development Council had done in the past. He believed the arts
sector would like to know the reason behind the decision. The
Chairman asked M+ to prepare a summary for the Board’s discussion
after the Venice Biennale.
