ASSIGNMENT FOR SUMMER BREAK-MATHEMATICS
Hello children. Vacations are round the corner and we are all geared up for the fun and
frolic, visits to grandparents and other destinations. The excitement is in the air. Just to keep
you all a little connected to academics during the break, we have designed a few questions
in Mathematics, which you can very easily fit into your routine.
The questions are applications of concepts that you already know. We want you to try these
independently and put in your best effort. However, if you are not able to solve them, you
need not worry. We will solve them together when we re-join school after the holidays.
Attempt them on A4 single lined sheets.
Here we go:
Q.1 Talk about vacations and our minds venture unto roller coasters and all the thrilling
rides that we can thinkof! Let’s bring Maths alive inthis favourite destination.

times the height of the existing coaster, what will be the height of the new roller coaster?
Q.2 Summer Fruits are the yummiest!!! And the fruit salads are a healthy
delight.Right?Take thefollowing situationA fruit salad recipe requires 1/2 cup of sugar. Anotherhealthy yet tasty recipe for thesame
fruit salad requires 2 tablespoons of sugar. If 1 tablespoon is equivalent to 1/16 cup, how
much more sugar does the first recipe require?
Q.3 You can’t change the past but you can change the future!!! Remember to RECYCLE 
The table shows the portion of some common materials that are recycled.

a) Is the rational number expressing the amount of paper recycled more than ½ or less
than ½ ?
b) Which items have a recycled amount less than ½?
Q.4 Our city is full of malls!Shopping at these is great fun!! But, we must also keep the
savings quotient in mind .
Maanya and Suvanshi each receive an equal allowance. The table shows the fraction of
their allowance each deposit into her savings account and the fraction each spends at
the mall. If allowance of each is Rs. 1260 find the amount left with each.

Hint: Subtract the spending from the total amount in the savings account and multiply
the result with Rs 1260. That’s it!!!
Q.5 The diagram shows the wingspans of different species of birds. Use the diagram to
answer the questiongiven below:
a)How much longer is the wingspan of an Albatross than thewingspan of a Sea Gull?
b)How much longer is the wingspan of a Golden eagle than the wingspan of a Blue jay?

Q.8 Dev is working on a school report in a word processor. He wants to place a figure
πŸ—πŸ—
which is 13
cm wide so that it appears centred on the page. The width of the page

is 21 cm. How much margin should she leave on the left so that the figure is
𝟏𝟏𝟏𝟏𝟏𝟏
centred?
(Hint: The margin on the left equals margin on the right, say x cm )
Q.9 Isn’t it lovely to spend time with your favourite hobby during vacations!! I’m sure
painting tops the chart.
Mona is making a picture frame. She wants the frame to be 1½ inches wide. The
picture is a 8in x 10in photograph. How long should she cut the length (side a) of the
frame? Also, find the area of the frame in square centimetres.(Remember! 1 inch= 2.5
cm)
Q.10 We all can surely surprise ourselves by making quick and easy recipes during the
summers and baking a cake would be great!!

Vivan is measuring out the ingredients of a recipe. The recipe requires 2 cups of flour to
πŸ’πŸ’
prepare one portion. His measurement cup is labelled in millilitres (ml). (I’m sure you
are aware that 1 cup = 250 ml)How much flour (in ml )should he use to prepare three
portions

67 ¾ for 3 days each, went to the buy booksfor herself andRuby for Rs2 each and
𝟏𝟏𝟏𝟏
deposited a birthday check from her grandma forRs 400. Use a suitable property of
rational numbers to calculate Neera’s current bank balance.(I’m sure you can
rearrange the rational numbers to make calculations easy.)
Q.14 A man left ¼ of his property to his wife,1/5 each to his 2 daughters and the
remainder to charity.Find the share left to charity.
Q.15 I read 2/9 of a book on Friday,1/3 of it on Saturday and the remaining 160 pages

Four friends had a competition to see how far they couldhop on onefoot. The table
given below shows the distance covered by each.

Soni
1/20
(a) How much farther did Soni hop than Nancy?
(b) What is the total distance covered by Seema and Megha?
(c) Who walked farther, Nancy or Megha?
(Just a simple trick!!Take the LCM and leave the answer in the form of a rational
number )
Q 17. Daniel’s garage is 8 ft long by 10 ft wide. His living room is twice as long, and twice
