Reading
Part One
You are reading a magazine where a reader has a question. Other readers give their answers.
Match the pieces of advice and the pictures. There are more pictures than advice. You have to mark
ten pictures. There is an example for you.
What can we do on holiday with little money?
This week's question
0.
This summer my boyfriend and I, leaving our busy city-life, are holidaying in a villa on a far-away
island, with not much comfort, not even telephone connection.
I'm not really a sun person, and I am worried about what we'll do with our time. Apart from books,
what do readers recommend we take that won’t be expensive?
What are your thoughts?
1. A pack of cards and a Travel Scrabble set served us well during a week in Lido di Jesolo.
2. When it rained so much we began to think to return home.
3. Hiking is a good idea. You can take short or long walks. It depends on what you want to do.
4. I had my holiday in a farmhouse in France, where we got a radio/cd player and lots of
magazines.
5. Check the weather forecast before you go and make sure you have sunscreen and some bottled
water. It may be far away but there may be pretty places to visit.
6. Take a backpack and find a very good local map.
7. Is there a kitchen? Can you get some good groceries there? If you enjoy cooking, try new
recipes. Go to the local market.
8. You'll be sleeping late and having lots of time, right? Peaceful meals, talking, reading a book,
and you're fine, I think. That's a great holiday.
9. Find out if you can hire a couple of bicycles locally, then explore at your leisure by bike. You
will get plenty of exercise while enjoying the countryside.
10. Just the two of you, in the middle of nowhere, without TV – no problem. You can watch TV
when you get back to the city.

Part Two
You are reading an article about chocolate tasting. Some parts (10) are missing from the text. Find
these parts from the list (A-M). There are two more possible parts than you will need.
There is an example for you.
Chocolate tasting is like wine tasting – you don’t eat it

them from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Afterwards they felt very unwell and 1 …... But their chocolate eating
marathon was not 2 ….. . It was their duty. Sandy is 3 ….. of the 15 people at a supermarket who are

unusual,” she 4 ….. . “We had to try out a whole fresh cream range from one of the new factories
before we 5 ….. it. It was a very 6 ….. day which made things even worse.”
Sandy is not overweight. How is it possible? “Chocolate tasting is like wine tasting, you 7 ….. eat it
only if it’s so good. I think all of us in the office have become immune to chocolate. It no longer puts
weight on us.”
Her hobby with chocolate began 8 ….. . “When I was little I, like every kid, wanted to work in the
Milka factory. When I began working in a sweet shop I was 9 ….. like a child, eating everything. But
that feeling disappeared. I 10 ….. chocolate but I’m not a chocoholic.”
