Annual Social Science Golf Tournament – Mark Your Calendars
The Annual Social Science Golf Tournament will take place on June 17, 2015, at the Twin
Streams Golf Course. Graduate students, staff, faculty, retired Social Science members, and
guests are invited. Registration details will be emailed shortly.
Friends of the Gardens’ 22nd Annual Plant Sale
The Friends of the Gardens will hold its Annual Plant Sale on June 2, 2015, from 12:00-2:00 p.m.,
between the greenhouses east of the Biological & Geological Sciences Building.
Talking Stats – A Discussion Series with Statcan
Wayne R. Smith, Chief Statistician of Canada, will be hosting Innovation in Canada, a presentation and
panel discussion, to be held in Toronto on Thursday, May 28, 2015. Please register by May 26, 2015.
NSERC Information Session – June 1
Lise Désabrais, Program Officer with the Research Grants Division of NSERC, will be holding a NSERC
information session at 1:00-2:30 p.m. on June 1, 2015, in Room 2100 SEB. She will discuss NSERC
updates for the 2014-2015 competition cycle, program changes for the 2015-2016 competition year,
and the application process for the Fall 2015 NSERC Discovery Grant. Everybody is welcome.
3M Teaching Fellowships – Call for Nominations
The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and 3M Canada established the 3M
Teaching Fellowships to reward exceptional contributions to teaching and learning at Canadian
universities. Nominations are due in the Office of the Vice-Provost (Academic) by August 17, 2015.
Mitacs Globalink Research Internship – Call for Faculty Participants
The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) is now accepting faculty submissions for Summer 2016.
GRI pairs faculty in Canada with international undergraduates for 12-week research projects running
from May to September. Please submit projects by June 18, 2015.
Summer School in Data Analysis
Minho University has announced the UMinho-Exec Summer School in Data Analysis, to take place at its
School of Economics and Management, Braga, Portugal, from August 31 to September 11, 2015. The
early bird registration deadline is July 17, 2015.

Interdisciplinary Initiatives Program – Call for Proposals
The University has announced Round 5 of the Interdisciplinary Initiatives Program (IDI), which provides
seed funding for projects that support graduate education, undergraduate education, and research, and
which involve interdisciplinary collaborations that cross Department, School or Faculty boundaries. The
deadline for submitting proposals to the Dean’s office is November 1, 2015. Those interested are asked
to notify Andrew Nelson as soon as possible.
