Desktop Support Technicians are IT Professionals who focus on a broad range of technical issues for Windows operating
systems, devices, cloud services, applications, networking, and hardware support. Key responsibilities include resolving
technical issues pertaining to Windows installation and migration, activation, performance, profiles, settings and device
synchronization, local and remote network access, access to applications, access to data and printers, authentication,
endpoint security and policy, operating system and data recovery.
Desktop Support Technicians must combine technical expertise with problem solving and decision making skills and a
deep understanding of their business and technical environments to quickly resolve support issues. They consider all
variables, justify resolutions with a logical troubleshooting approach, and relate tradeoffs while adhering to business and
technical requirements and constraints. Desktop Support Technician are primarily responsible for the maintenance and
support of desktops and devices, installing and testing line-of-business applications on these devices, and physically
making changes to user devices or re-images as required.
The Study Programme: The international MCSA Windows 8.1 programme comprises 2 modules leading towards the
designation MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solution Associate) as awarded by Microsoft. The duration is 5 months divided
roughly into two “blocks”.
Block 1:
The Technician level - training encompasses the CompTIA A+ and Network+ curriculum.
Block 2:
Enjoying the benefits of a state-of-the-art computer lab, you will embark on the MCSA Windows 8.1 training
and certification programme. The focus is on Windows Client Infrastructure.
Whilst working towards the international certifications, training is practical and hands-on, ensuring that you are ready for
that critical first job.

Holding these certifications undoubtedly puts you ahead of the pack in the search for employment.
What is a MCSA
MCSA and MCSE are the globally-recognised standards for IT professionals.
The Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification validates your ability to manage and troubleshoot
network environments based on the Windows Server operating systems. It reflects a unique set of skills required to
succeed in a variety of job roles, such as operating systems administrator, network administrator, information systems
administrator, network operations analyst, network technician and technical support specialist.
Our very experienced lecturers will guide you through the course work and a variety of internal assessments will help you
prepare for each of the international examinations.
Admission Requirements:
• Besides a sound knowledge of personal computers, it is highly recommended that you have passed Grade 10
with Mathematics.
• Students must have access to their own PC.
• Candidates may be assessed during an admission interview.

Certification and International Examinations:
On successful completion of each module (internal Examination), you will be awarded an ELMI Short Programme
Certificate. This is not registered on the National Qualifications Framework and is not credit bearing.
Whilst not compulsory, it is highly recommended that the International Exams are taken – this is the key to making
yourself marketable to an employer. Due to the varied manner and pace at which students prefer to take their
international examinations, we have elected to exclude the costs of these exams in the total course fee, allowing the
student to purchase these exams at his/her own pace. The approximate cost of these exams is listed below:
