* Exhibitors, enrolled in a 4-H Horse Project, must show their own project horse(s) in the non-open classes.
*There will be Boulder County 4-H HLC High Points awarded toward year end high point award for classes marked with (*).
* All classes apply to Overall Show High Point award except class #22. Point calculation can be found on back of show bill.
*The horsemanship classes will be a pattern and no rail work unless requested by Judge.
* For the non-open classes, exhibitors must compete at the 4-H riding level of the card they hold.
*Management may elect to combine classes with 3 or fewer entries or split classes with a lot of entries.

Rules for Ranch Horse Pleasure Classes (#44 and #45)
Per AQHA Rule Book: The purpose of Ranch Horse Pleasure horse should reflect the versatility, attitude and movement of
the working horse. The horse’s performance should simulate a horse riding outside the confines of an arena and that of a
working ranch horse. This class should show the horse’s ability to work at a forward, working speed while under control by
the rider. Light contact is rewarded and the horse shall not be shown on a full drape of reins. The overall manners and
responsiveness of the horse while performing the maneuver requirements and the horse’s quality of movement are the
primary considerations.
AQHA Rules include •
Each horse will work individually, performing both required and optional maneuvers, and scored on the basis of 0100, with 70 denoting an average performance.

The required maneuvers will include the walk, trot, and lope both directions; and the extended trot and extended
lope at least one direction; as well as stops, and back.
•
Three optional maneuvers may include a side pass, turns of 360 degrees or more, change of lead (simple or flying),
walk, trot, or lope over a pole(s); or some reasonable combination of maneuvers that would be reasonable for a
ranch horse to perform.
•
Gaits should emphasize forward movement, free-flowing, and ground covering.
Exceptions to AQHA Rules for this show •
You will be allowed to show the same horse in Ranch Horse Pleasure that you show in Western Pleasure.
•
You will not be penalized for polish on horse’s hooves, braided or banded manes, or tail extensions.

Points awarded for 1st through 6th place.
Number of points awarded for each placing will be based on number of participants in a class.
If there are 5 participants in a class, then 1st=6, 2nd = 5, 3rd = 4, 4th = 3, 5th = 2, 6th = 1.
If there are 8 participants in a class, then 1st = 8, 2nd = 7, 3rd = 6, 4th = 5, 5th = 4, 6th = 3.
If there is only 1 participant in a class, then 1st = 1.
Points are based on the rider, regardless of the number of horses used.
Person with the most number of points at the end of the show wins the overall show high point award.
