Innovations that set trends (I)

Smart Operator
–
The first intelligent electrical network in Bavarian Swabia has been in operation in Wertachau in Schwabmünchen
since July 2014.
–
The intelligent network can use different modules to create a balance between the fluctuating generation from
sun or wind and consumption.
–
The brain of the intelligent network is the Smart Operator – a computer that automatically controls the
compensation between decentralised generation and consumption.
Visioneum Energy+
–
The building in Königsbrunn is intended to act as an example of best practice for forwarding-looking homes and
construction.
–
The latest technologies and materials have been used; the building services are regularly updated to state-of-theart standard.
–
The project is being supported by scientists and students from the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.
ePlan B
–
On a P & R hub in Buchloe are e-mobility charging infrastructure and 15 electric cars available for commuters.
–
The electrical cars should be charged in such a way that the electric supply network is not overloaded. Special
control mechanisms have been developed for this. As far as possible, solar power generated in the region is to
be used to charge the electrical cars.

Factory with flexible energy (ForeEnergy)
–
FOREnergy is a joint project of 33 partners from science and industry, including the company Lechwerke AG.
–
The project partners are developing new solutions and methods for the flexible controlling of energy demand in
a factory.
–
In the framework of the project, the Lechwerke power stations use flexible loads from SGL Carbon in
Meitingen (graphite furnaces) to be sold on the electricity balancing markets (short-term reserve).
LEW energy facade
–
In the project, a photovoltaic plant is being tested in combination with battery storage for use in the industrial
sector. The LEW training workshop acts as a test building.
–
A façade plant is used for this. This combines the advantage of year-round production with a flat (and thus
network-suitable) generation curve.
–
As an alternative to lithium-ion battery storage, a lead gel battery has been installed in this project.
Environmental projects: hydroelectric power
–
BEW is guaranteeing the ecological passability of the Iller and Wertach rivers with fish ladders.
–
The water body structure is improved by the creation of gravel spawning grounds and the incorporation of
deadwood to encourage fish settlement.
–
In the projects, BEW is testing new approaches in bed load management and creating near-natural waterside
structures.
