Position Overview:
The Office of Housing and Residence Life (OHRL) believes that living in residence facilities provides the
student with an essential part of their education that helps to develop the complete and self-directed
person. The Resident Assistant is the most immediate link between residence hall students and the
broader Rutgers-Camden community and must serve as a resource person for their students. The EOF
Summer Institute Resident Assistant position was specifically created to work with incoming first year
EOF students as they transition to College. The EOF Summer Institute Resident Assistant serves the
EOF summer residential student population by providing summer program opportunities, safety and
security for each of their residents by means of regular room and floor rounds, as well as, resources and
support to all residents. There are regular scheduled duty on-call responsibilities associated with this
position.
Qualifications:
o Good academic standing (3.0 GPA and above)
o Earned 58 or more degree credits by end of Spring 2015 semester
o Prior Rutgers Camden RA experience not required, but preferred
o Understanding of community living and willingness to be a role model
o Maturity level necessary to represent the EOF department and University as a front line staff
member
o No prior or outstanding conduct sanctions, or criminal record
o Preference will be given to EOF students in good standing
Responsibilities and Expectations:
1. RA’s must attend two trainings prior to the EOF Summer Institute:
a. OHRL All Summer Residential Staff Training: May 27th 10:00am-6:00pm
b. EOF Summer Institute Residential Assistant Training: June 3rd, 2015 11:00am4:00pm (alternate date TBD)
2. RA’s are expected to work an average 40 hours a week with degrees of variance. Specifically,
RA’s will be expected to be on duty/working:
a. EOF Orientation: June 26th 2015, 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
b. EOF student move in weekend, and move out day: July 11th-12th 2015 & August 14th
2015
c. On duty in the dorms: Monday-Thursday, 10pm-6am
d. Meetings one hour a week, on Mondays, with the EOF Residence Life Programming
Coordinator, time TBD.
e. Evening Programs, twice a week on Monday/Wednesdays: 2 hours, times to TBD.
f. Weekend duty (rotating schedule).
3. Duty Rounds of the Camden Towers will take place: Sunday – Thursday evenings.
a. Students are required to be in the building by 11pm, Sunday-Thursday.
b. Students are required to be in their rooms, by midnight, on Sunday-Thursday
evenings.
4. RA’s must send an email to the EOF Residence Life Summer Programing Coordinator each
evening after rounds documenting any issues (non-urgent) that occurred with the students.
Programming:
EOF Summer RA’s, in conjunction with the EOF Summer Programming Coordinator, are expected to
develop programming that will take place two nights per week, on Monday and Wednesdays with the
EOF Summer Students. This programming will be created prior to the start of the summer program and
will be reviewed and approved by the coordinator and EOF dept.
