The Role of Exercise When Living with
Chronic Illness
Greetings to all Villagers, each one of whom is entitled
to utilize Fearrington Cares' services. While we are a
donation-driven organization and donations allow us to
function, a donation is never a prerequisite for service.
A Villager may use any of our services—just because
you live here!
June 3, 10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. at The Gathering
Place
Fearrington Cares is a 501(c)3 organization whose
income comes almost entirely from contributions and
grants. Our only current grant is from the Arthur
Carlsen Charitable Fund, a donor-advised fund at
Triangle Community Foundation (www.trianglecf.org),
which has supported Chatham County nonprofit
organizations with funding since 2008. We are grateful
for that grant, which covers the RN portion of our
Executive Director’s salary annually through 2017.
Fearington Cares financial reports will be available at
the Fearrington Cares Center for review after June 1. A
summary financial statement will be posted on our web
site shortly thereafter. This information is open to all.
Nancy Reynolds, PT, MEd, will talk about recent
research on the role of exercise for Parkinson's Disease
(PD), strategies to facilitate regular exercise
participation and case studies illustrating the effect of
exercise on people with PD.
Nancy has certificates in Exercise4BrainChange from
Parkinson Wellness Recovery and the Allied Team
Training for Parkinson's Disease from the National
Parkinson Foundation and the Movement Disorder
Society. Nancy has been working with the physicians
at UNC's Movement Disorder Clinic for the past five
years as an adjunct clinician for their patients with
PD. She has been a physical therapist for 35 years.
Dress comfortably and be prepared to move! This
program is presented as a part of the Parkinson’s
Support Group Meeting.
Choices to Promote Heart Health
June 11, 7:00 p.m. at The Gathering Place
Save The Date: 25th Anniversary Celebration
October 1 at The Barn
Fearrington Cares is celebrating its 25th anniversary
with a night of fun featuring a light supper and the
Tony Award-winning Red Clay Ramblers on Thursday,
October 1, at The Barn. Get your tickets ($45) at the
Fearrington Farmers' Market (Tuesdays 4-6 p.m.), at
the Fearrington Cares Center (Wednesdays 9 a.m.noon) or from any Planning Committee member (Art
Lituchy, Terry Parsons, Mimsy Mason, David Lindeman,
Kay White, Steve Stewart or Barbara Lankford).
Heart disease claims the lives of thousands of people
each year, even though it is often a preventable
lifestyle disease. Those diagnosed with heart disease
experience diminished quality of life and may be a
burden on loved ones. This presentation will explore
ideas on becoming more aware of the lifestyle choices
we make each day that can support a healthy heart.
Attendees will leave feeling inspired to take control of
their own health care through lifestyle modification.

SUPPORT SERVICES
Caregivers Support Opportunities
June 19, 1:00 –4:00 p.m. at The Gathering Place
Family caregivers play a critical role by providing a
significant proportion of the care for both the
chronically ill and aging. While caregiving can be
rewarding and positive, many family caregivers
experience significant physical, psychological and
financial stressors in association with their caregiving
role. This interactive afternoon program will be
enjoyable, informative and relaxing. Registration is
required by June 11. Contact the Fearrington Cares
Center (919–542–6877) for more information and to
register.
Save The Date: Fearrington Friends
Orientation
September 24, 2:00-3:30 p.m. at the
Fearrington Cares Center
The Fearrington Friends program continues to enrich
our community by providing companionship to
Fearrington residents who would like a regular
visitor. Many wonderful long-term friendships have
resulted.
For anyone interested in being a Fearrington Friends
volunteer, there will be an orientation on September
24 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Fearrington Cares
Center. If you are interested in attending this
orientation and learning more about the program,
please call the Fearrington Cares Center at 919-5426877.
