Tips for Teachers
#1: Complete the Roster Maintenance and
Verification (RMV) Process
The Roster Maintenance and Verification (RMV) process ensures
your scheduling and class roster information is up-to-date in
STARS. In mid-March, you will receive an email inviting you to
participate in the RMV process. It is important for you to
complete this process because class roster information is
used to calculate your MOSL ratings, among other things.
Here’s what you’ll need to do:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Log in to STARS Classroom to review teacher/course
and student/course relationships.
Run and review the Teacher Subject - Class Report by
following the Roster Review Check-list (resource
available soon).
Determine changes required to update roster
information.
Resolve student and teacher start/end date changes in
Class History.
For more information, review the Roster Maintenance and
Verification Guide (resource available soon).
#2: Access New Teacher Resources Through
the Learn Portal
The Learn Portal offers teachers a holistic professional
development experience, including a self-assessment of
pedagogical strengths and growth areas, and an array of selfpaced and instructor-led resources, known as “Learning
Opportunities” (LOs).
Some popular LOs include the Danielson Component Study
Guides for elementary school (LO 746), middle school (LO
747) and high school (748) as well as professional learning
activities focused on Domain 2: Classroom Environment (LO
777) and Domain 3: Instruction (LO 778).
The Learn Portal has recently moved on the NYCDOE website.
Please be sure to bookmark the new page for future reference.

Advance Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
My principal and I are working together on a Teacher Improvement Plan (TIP). What can I expect between now and the
end of the year?
A:
All teachers participating in TIP are required to have a mid-year conversation with their evaluator between January 2 and April
th
30 . You should expect to discuss your TIP during the Summative End of Year Conference (required for all teachers) as well.
For more information regarding how best to prepare for these professional conversations, please refer to the At a Glance: Best
Practices for Teacher Improvement Plans.
Q:
When can I expect to receive my final MOTP score and corresponding MOTP HEDI rating?
A:
Your final Measures of Teacher Practice (MOTP) rating should be finalized by June 26th (the last day of school); you will receive
a print-out of the MOTP Final Summary Form which you will need to sign for the file, and you’ll also be given a copy to for your
records. The MOTP Final Summary Form will include your 0-60 point MOTP score and corresponding MOTP HEDI rating. As a
reminder, MOTP scores and HEDI ratings are not final until you receive and sign this form. In the Fall, when MOSL scores are
available, your final MOTP rating will be combined with your MOSL rating to calculate your Advance Overall Rating.
nd
Q: Is student and/or teacher attendance taken into account when calculating a teacher’s MOSL scores?
A:
Teacher attendance is not taken into account when calculating a teacher’s scores. Both the NYSED and NYCDOE growth
models adjust scores based on student attendance so students with lower attendance receive less weight in a teacher’s score
than students with higher attendance. Students who have dropped out, no-show students, and long-term absent students will be
excluded from a teacher’s school-level scores if the student does not take the post-test assessment. For more information,
please refer to the Advance Frequently Asked Questions.
