Get out, get active and help Galter LifeCenter log the most steps in our free 7-day walking challenge!
Join Galter LifeCenter staff and members as they try to log 70,000 steps during Medical Fitness Week,
April 20-26, 2015. Medical fitness centers around the world are participating in this challenge, competing for
the most steps logged and recognition at the Medical Fitness Association’s (MFA) 2015 Annual Conference.
We need your help to put Galter LifeCenter ahead of the pack.
Register online, at the Courtesy Desk or by calling 773-878-9936 by April 20.
Everyone who registers gets a free pedometer. Strive to walk 10,000 steps/day (five miles) but all steps count!
Nonmembers: If you participate in the Walking Challenge and join by the end of April, your enrollment fee
will be waived.

Monday, April 20
Baby Care and Infant CPR Class
6 - 9 p.m.
Learn about various topics related to newborn care in this prenatal class.
Note: This is a two-part session taking place on Mondays, April 20 and April 27, from 6 - 9 p.m.

Wednesday, April 22
Kidney Screening
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Take charge of your health and attend a free screening through the National Kidney
Foundation of Illinois’ KidneyMobile® program! The screening includes blood pressure
measurement, glucose testing, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference tests, urinalysis, blood
draw and a private consultation with a medical professional. Reservations required.

Thursday, April 23
Heart Disease Screening
8 - 10:30 a.m.
Know your risk! There are several tests that can help identify your risk factors for heart disease. Swedish Covenant
Hospital now offers monthly heart disease screenings in our new Heart and Lung Center. The screening takes
approximately 15 minutes.

Joint Protection
1 - 2 p.m.
Medicare patients, whether your joints are generally healthy or you have occasional aches and pains, it is important
to know how to protect them. Dr. Denis Williams, an orthopedic surgeon with Swedish Covenant Medical Group and
member of the Galter LifeCenter physician advisory board, will discuss which pains require medical attention, how to
maintain an active lifestyle and what you need to know about both surgical and non-surgical treatment options.

Heel Screening
5 - 7 p.m.
Do you suffer from heel pain? Meet Dr. Soyoung Kwon, a podiatrist at Swedish Covenant Hospital, in our new Women’s
Health Center for a one-on-one assessment to determine the cause of your pain and treatment options.
Reservations required.

Friday, April 24
Cooking with Arthritis
2 - 3:30 p.m.
Don’t let arthritis slow you down in the kitchen! Peggy Balboa, a registered dietitian from Mariano’s, and Eileen
Brusso, an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist from Swedish Covenant Hospital, will address proper
handling of kitchen tools, appropriate posture and body mechanics, work simplification techniques and cooking
methods that protect arthritic joints. Each attendee will leave with a printed guide which includes tips for working in
the kitchen with arthritis and several dietitian recommended recipes.
