YOUR MISSION COMPLETED: SALTY VS. SWEET
Sweet victory! In the battle of these two seasoned opponents, salt took a back seat to sugar.
But savoury posts still had us salivating, and with some Gastroposters remaining undecided
this matchup made for an epic mission. Twitter handles are in blue and Instagram in brown.

NEXT MISSION:
HOT OR COLD
Let’s face it — Alberta in April is a mixed
bag of weather. The week could start off in
shorts as we enjoy ice cream and end with
the return of snow, scarves and a warming
bowl of soup. This week, we want to know
what temperature best suits your food
temperament. Is it a hot meal that gives
you the warm fuzzies or is it cooler cuisine
that helps you chill out? Whatever degree
you take for this mission, don’t go all hot
and cold us: pick one!

MISSION
INSPIRATION
Simone Demers Collins with the Alberta
Canola Producers knows that no matter
what the weather, Albertans love to grill.
And for your grilling needs, she
recommends using Alberta canola oil
when making a marinade. “It has no
flavour so it’s not going to detract from
other spices or vinegars you’re using in
the marinade. It allows you to retain or
increase the moisture level that are part
of the vegetables or the meat.” If you’re
using a tough cut of Alberta beef for
example, a marinade will help make it
more tender. “Even stewing meats are
good to be marinated. If you want to add
flavour, you can marinade your fish,
chicken or pork tenderloin.” Visit
canolainfo.org for a few recipes and ideas
on how to use Alberta canola oil in your
marinades.
If you’re enjoying local ingredients in
your #gastropost this week, make sure
to include the #tasteab tag for an extra
chance to be in the paper!
