CERTIFICATIONS
Students who successfully complete this program
will be eligible to write certification exams leading
to the following designations: CompTIA A+,
CompTIA Network+, CompTIA IT Project+,
CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Linux+ (Powered
by LPI), Cisco CCNA and 2 MCSA designations.
These certifications are comprised of 13 individual
certification examinations. Students are provided
with 13 certification exam vouchers to write the
certifications they wish to pursue.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
High School Graduation Diploma or Mature
Student Status (18 years of age and academic
achievement test passed).
Accreditation Policy: Like all post-secondary institutions in
Ontario, triOS College reserves the right to accept or deny
advanced standing into its programs.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Diploma:
triOS diplomas will be granted only to students
who successfully complete all courses in the
program with a passing grade of 60% (or a grade
of ‘complete’ where applicable). As well, students
must meet the minimum Standards of Satisfactory
Scholastic Progress as set out in our Student
Handbook.
For programs that include an
internship, all internship hours must be completed
and a final grade of ‘Pass’ must be achieved for
the internship.
Diploma with Honours:
Where an overall average of 90% is maintained
and a student meets all standards related to
contact hours, the student is eligible for "Honours"
status upon graduation and such status will be
recorded on his/her Diploma and Official
Transcript.
Diploma with Distinction:
Where an overall average of 80% is maintained
and a student meets all standards related to
contact hours, the student is eligible for
"Distinction" status upon graduation and such
status will be recorded on his/her Diploma and
Official Transcript.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The triOS industry-leading Information Technology
Administrator (Linux, Security & Database
Specialist) Diploma Program is designed for the
individual seeking knowledge and certification in
computer- and network-related administration. In
addition to communication and support training,
students receive training on popular operating
systems including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft
Windows Server, and Linux. Moreover, students
learn how to configure computer and network
technologies such as Cisco routers and switches,
Microsoft SQL Server, server and network
security, wireless and mobile devices, as well as
learn how to automate administration using
PowerShell and BASH Shell scripts. Additionally,
students learn how to communicate effectively, as
well as manage time and IT-related projects within
a corporate infrastructure.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
In this course, students learn and develop the
skills and strategies required to function
successfully in a professional setting using selfdiscovery, group work and peer review methods.
Areas explored include the elements needed for
developing a professional work ethic; strategies for
presenting oneself professionally; the importance
of various interpersonal skills to function effectively
in the workplace; and the value of developing
problem-solving and critical-thinking skills for job
performance success.
CompTIA A+
This course introduces the essential skills required
of a microcomputer hardware and software service
technician and covers the concepts necessary to
achieve the CompTIA A+ Certification. More
specifically, students learn the features of various
hardware devices, as well as their configuration,
maintenance, and troubleshooting practices.
Additionally, students learn how to use, configure,
upgrade, troubleshoot and maintain the Windows
family of operating systems.
WINDOWS 7 ADMINISTRATION
This course introduces the skills and knowledge
necessary to install, configure, administer, and
support Microsoft Windows 7.
In addition,
students will learn about the various tools for
administering, configuring, and troubleshooting
Windows 7, as well as how to deploy and upgrade
to Windows 7, configure disks, users, drivers,
printers, network interfaces and security. This
course is a prerequisite for all other Microsoft
courses and covers the material tested on the
Microsoft Windows 7 Configuration certification
exam (70-680) and the Microsoft Windows 7
Enterprise
Desktop
Support
Technician
certification exam (70-685) needed to obtain the
Windows 7 Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate
(MCSA) designation.
WINDOWS POWERSHELL SCRIPTING
This course provides students with the knowledge
and skills necessary to write and maintain
Powershell scripts to automate all aspects of
system administration for computers running the
Microsoft Windows operating system. In addition

to basic Powershell concepts such as Cmdlets,
Scripts and Pipelining, this course covers the
interfaces built into the Windows operating system
(e.g. Windows Management Instrumentation WMI and Active Directory Services Interfaces ADSI) which scripts must call in order to
manipulate the operating system. This course has
been designed for system administrators and does
not require an extensive background in
programming.
Later courses in the IT
Administrator program, that contain Windows
Server and Microsoft Exchange Server, will utilize
PowerShell to perform certain tasks.
TECHNOLOGY
MANAGEMENT
FOR
IT
PROFESSIONALS
Communication as well as time and project
management skills are vital to success in today’s
IT industry. Through the use of examples,
demonstrations, projects and group activities,
students will examine various communication, time
and project management strategies
and
techniques that are commonly used within the IT
industry.
Moreover, this course introduces
students to the concepts necessary to achieve the
CompTIA IT Project+ certification.
NETWORK & CISCO TECHNOLOGIES
In this course students will learn the theory and
concepts required to successfully administer and
troubleshoot TCP/IP-based networks. Students
will then expand their knowledge of TCP/IP-based
networks by learning the configuration and support
of Cisco routers, switches and services. In
addition, this course provides the conceptual
foundation for later networking courses and
prepares students to write the CompTIA Network+
certification exam (N10-005) and Cisco Certified
Network Associate (CCNA) certification exam
(200-120).
MOBILE DEVICE SUPPORT
This course introduces students to the structure
and function of ActiveSync and the BlackBerry
Infrastructure as well as the concepts and
procedures required to support BlackBerry and
non-BlackBerry smartphones in corporate and
non-corporate environments.
LINUX ADMINISTRATION
In this course, students learn how to install,
configure, and administer the basic services of a
Linux system. More specifically, students will gain
a solid working knowledge of how the Linux
operating system works, experience in navigating
within the file structure, system & network
administration skills, security tools and practices,
and more. At course completion, students will
have covered the topics covered on the CompTIA
Linux+ (Powered by LPI) certification.
ENTERPRISE SECURITY
This course introduces students to the concepts
and procedures used to implement and configure
security within an enterprise environment. Focus
will be placed on the procedures and technologies
that can be used to secure access to data and
mitigate security breaches.
Additionally, this
course covers the concepts tested on the
CompTIA Security+ certification exam.
INTRODUCTION TO ETHICAL HACKING
This course builds upon the concepts introduced
in the Enterprise Security course.
More
specifically, this course discusses the practices of
ethical hacking and its benefits within an
organization. Students will use various ethical
hacking utilities during the course to provide an
overview of the attack surface of an organization
as well as take steps to mitigate the risk
associated with that attack surface.
DATABASE & SQL FUNDAMENTALS
This course introduces students to the Structured
Query Language (SQL) using Microsoft SQL
Server 2012. More specifically, students will learn
how to perform SQL Queries on sample
databases, mine for specific types of data, as well
as use specific programs that can help mine for
data and produce reports. Additionally, this course
covers the material tested on the Microsoft
certification exam 70-461.
SQL SERVER ADMINISTRATION
This course introduces the concepts and skills
required to administer Microsoft SQL Server 2012.
More specifically, students will learn how to
install/upgrade to SQL Server as well as create,

manage, monitor, and optimize databases.
Additionally, students will explore additional
management tasks such as automation, security,
replication,
backup/restore,
snapshots,
log
shipping and clustering. At course completion,
students will have covered the material tested on
the Microsoft certification exam 70-462.
SQL SERVER DESIGN
This course builds upon the concepts introduced
in the SQL Server Administration course. More
specifically, it introduces the concepts and skills
required to design a Microsoft SQL Server 2012
solution for an organization based on
organizational needs. Additionally, students will
learn how to optimize and manage a Microsoft
SQL Server 2012 solution using best practices. At
course completion, students will have covered the
Material tested on the Microsoft certification exam
70-463 needed to obtain the SQL Server 2012
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
designation.
INTERNSHIP
At the completion of the in-class portion of this
program, students are required to complete an 8
week Internship (minimum 200 hours).
