Police Officer Thomas J. Lewis P-132 (1948-2015)
Tom was born May 15, 1948 to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lewis. He attended Withrow High
School, graduating in 1966.
Tom joined the Cincinnati Police Division as a Police Cadet on November 20, 1966, was
assigned to Records Section, and attended the University of Cincinnati majoring in
Criminal Justice. He resigned the next April for a better paying position with the
LeBlonde Machine tool Company.
He soon changed occupations to television repair working for All City Appliance across
the street from his home on Stanley Avenue until 1977.
During September 1977, he joined the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy
Sheriff on the Road Patrol. He continued to serve until 1981.
Deputy Lewis rejoined the Cincinnati Police Division as a Police Recruit on July 5, 1981,
was promoted to Police Officer in December, and was assigned to District 2. During
February 1983 he transferred to District 4 and three months later was laid off due to job
abolishment.
Four months later, in September 1984, Officer Lewis was recalled from layoff and
assigned to District 5. He also served in District 2, and then again in District 5. On July
2, 1994 Officer Lewis resigned again with 17 years of service to his county and city and
17 letters of commendation; mostly from Assistant Police Chiefs Ammann, Menkhaus,
Staft and Whalen for investigative and patrol techniques.
On Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 2:56 p.m., Officer Lewis was riding a motorcycle north on
Tealtown Road in Clermont County when he lost control and crashed into a guardrail,
killing him. He was 67.
