God, you have chosen us as your own, and by
the powerful name of Christ you protect us from
evil. By your Spirit transform us and your

Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who
lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen
GLCM ANNUAL FUN-RAISER
The 15th Annual Gethsemane Lutheran
Children’s Ministry Golf Tournament, May
3, the Golf Club at Star Ranch supports
ministry to children and their families.
Registration/Lunch/Putting contest 12 noon
with Shotgun Scramble 2 p.m. Every golfer
receives a “goody bag” and the opportunity to
win numerous prizes for challenging golf feats
including: Putting challenge on practice green,
Hole-in-one, Closest to the pin, Long drive for
men & women, Low team scores (lst, 2nd,
3rd), Raffle give-away) and lots of fun
supporting children’s ministry. For information
call GLCM office 339-6335. Thanks to
persons and families for supporting GLCM
through the “Golf Tree”. The Gethsemane
community has been generous and faithful in
supporting children and their families. GLCMGood beginnings..never end
SYNOD MEETING
The 2015 Southwestern Texas Synod
Assembly will be held in McAllen May 1-3.
Representing Gethsemane will be Pastor Susan
Schnelle , Intern Pastor Sharolyn Browning,
Lee Schnelle and Belinda Malin. The theme of
this year’s assembly is based on Matthew
25:35b, “Welcome the Stranger”.
LSM BOARD
Lutheran Sunset Ministries Corporation
Board meets Sunday, May 3, Clifton, Texas.
Gethsemane Lutheran has been a corporation
board member for many years. Gifts from
Gethsemane members and the Gethsemane
Lutheran Mabel Ekman Charitable
Foundation are given every year to Rodney
Reuter, LSM President and Chief Executive
Officer for support of senior Lutherans residing
at LSM. Thanks to Gethsemane Women of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Quilters for their yearly donation of a quilt for
the annual LSM Quilt Auction. Over $36,000
was raised by the auction in 2014 for LSM
residents. Gethsemane Lutheran rejoices in this
senior adult ministry partnership.

understanding. Pour into our hearts such love
for you that, loving you above all things, we

the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

MOTHER’S DAY GIFTS
Gethsemane joins in the nationwide Mother’s
Day celebration. Give thanks to God for
faithful mothers by giving a Gift through the
ELCA World Hunger Appeal (use the
envelope in the worship bulletin) Your mother
gave you the world-help another mom do the
same: support women and children around the
world with a gift in honor or memory of your
mother. “Her children rise up and call her
blessed.” ( Proverbs 31:2)

Martha Unit meet Tuesday, May 12th 9:30 a.m.
in the Music Room. Program leader: Donna
Olson with Dar Krenek leading a sing-along.
Hostess: Joan Candoli. Gethsemane women are
invited to enjoy the fellowship and music.
GLCM PRE-K GRADUATION
Gethsemane Lutheran Children’s Ministry
Pre-K Graduation Friday, May 15, 9 a.m. in
the sanctuary with a cake reception immediately
following. Everyone is invited.
Congratulations 2015 graduates: Elliot, Evan,
Lila, Grayson, Jakob, Nahshon, Jade, Jude,
Saul, Etta, Pepper, John, Emory, Lily, Vance,
Julia, Lucille, James and Christopher.
Several of these children have been with GLCM
since infancy. Thanks parents for sharing your
precious children with GLCM. Annual
Potluck Picnic, Springwood Park, May 16,
10:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. GLCM Summer
Program: June 8 – Aug 19 Thailand Trek—
”Jesus Loves the Little Children of the World”.
The theme is an extension of the annual
Gethsemane Lutheran Vacation Bible School.
(June 22-26). The summer program includes
splash days, music, storytelling, sports, crafts,
cooking, summer musical, games and chapel.
GLCM is currently enrolling for the summer
program and 2015-16 school year. Contact

GETHSEMANE iACT ANGEL
Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT)
annual HOPE AWARDS Tuesday, May 5, 6 p.m.
Four Seasons Hotel will honor Michael Morton,
wrongly convicted in 1987 of murdering his
wife, spent 25 years in prison. He was
exonerated by DNA evidence and released. His
story is an inspirational testimony of Forgiveness
Through Faith. Gethsemane Lutheran is a charter
member in the founding of iACT. Pastor Karl
Gronberg served two terms as president of the
Austin Area Conference of Churches, a
founding organization of iACT. In support of
this interfaith organization, Gethsemane will be
one of the sponsors of the HOPE AWARDS
receiving the designation as an iACT Angel.
Thanks Gethsemane congregation for being a
progressive leader in the Austin community.
CONFIRMATION BANQUET
The annual Gethsemane Lutheran Confirmation
Banquet Wednesday, May 6th, 7 pm MultiPurpose Room recognizing 7th/8th graders
having completed confirmation instruction for
this year. Gethsemane youth having completed
6th grade and entering 7th grade in the fall will
be welcomed into the catechetical program.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America and the Southwestern Texas
Synod express thanks to Gethsemane
congregants for faithful mission giving in 2014.
Over and above the giving to the synod,
Gethsemane gave support to Border mission,
Thailand Mission, Africa mission expressing
the Global Vision of the community as well as
numerous ministries in the Austin community.
ABUNDANT LIFE ART EXHIBIT
The first annual Abundant Life Art Exhibit
hosted in 2015 by Gethsemane Lutheran and
organized by the newly formed “Lutheran
Visual Arts Council of Central Texas ” held
their opening reception on Tuesday, April 21st,
the birthday of Gabriel Loire. The exhibit
commemorates the life and work of Gabriel
Loire concluding on the evening of May 19.
The exhibit displays art from various local artists
including James Janknegt, Jenna Bruns, Jose
Blanco, Clare Andrus and Pehr Smith in
addition to celebrating the stunning stained-glass
art of Gabriel Loire in the Gethsemane
Sanctuary. For more information about the

GETHSEMANE YOUTH
SAY THANK YOU!
The youth of Gethsemane have been blessed by
this community’s outpouring of encouragement
and support. The Annual Dinner Theatre was a
huge success. Over $8,500 was raised for youth
ministry. There are many people to thank: the
creator of the play “Senseless”. Lane
Holmstrom’s wit and humor shone through as
the actors wowed the audience with their
performance; Raymund Kuenast’s amazing
organizational skills and expertise in Microsoft
Excel kept the crew moving forward and on task;
Marsha McConaughy offered her creativity on
set design, costumes and props; Gordon Feller
continues to support Gethsemane youth by
supplying curtains for staging and serving as our
most excellent auctioneer.; Ron Tigue set up the
staging, tables, chairs and ran the sound system;
Ken Malin ran the lights; Lee Schnelle video
taped the show and Jeff Ketteman was
photographer. Thanks to the Nonsensical Band
David Mason, Joe Dan Johnson, Stephanie
Scheffel, Michael Hillmer and Lane
Holmstrom. Silent and live auctions were
coordinated by Tracy Anderson and Renita
Feller. The delicious dinner was coordinated and
prepared by Terri and Brenda Brown, Gordon
and Marilyn Ketteman. Louise Eidbo
coordinated the serving crew. Steve Greinert
led the set strike team. Martin & Raquel
Gonzales provided custodial help. Thanks to all
who bought program ads, donated auction items,
bid and purchased auction items. Belinda Malin
wore many hats for this show, coordinating the
table decorations, packaging many of the silent
auction items and preparing the playbill. Thanks
also to Dar Krenek, Intern Sharolyn
Browning, Pastors Gronberg and Schnelle.
Gethsemane youth will grow in their baptismal
faith as they attend this summer the national
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Youth Gathering,“Rise Up” and Ebert Ranch
Camp. Youth participating in the Dinner
Theatre were: Ashlynn Althaus, Carly
Anderson, Kate Anderson, Zach Brock,
Quintel Candeh, Sheenique Candeh, Chloe
DaMommio, Matthew Davitt, Kendall Evans,
Nicole Facile, Michael Greinert, Amanda
Holmstrom, Daniel Holmstrom, Sam Huston,
Grant Johnson, Jody Johnson, Will Johnson,
Megan Jones, Lily Kuenast, Ryan Kuenast,

The Gethsemane Altar Guild has received
an Easter Season altar parament created by
Central Texas Lutheran artist Jenna Bruns.
The parament was commissioned for the
Abundant Life Art Exhibit as a gift from
the Wes & Alvina Seaholm Sassman Altar
Guild Fund. The parament was dedicated
Sunday April 26, 2015 during the Easter 4
liturgy of the Gethsemane community. “ I
was glad when they said unto me, let us go to
the house of the Lord”.
Gethsemane joins with parents and family
members as they celebrate the
accomplishments of their children. May and
June is a traditional time for commencement.
