INTRODUCTION
In the present Knowledge Era, with an aggressive development agenda, Indian economy is
poised to emerge as one of the fastest emerging economies in the world. Blessed with
substantial natural resources, Indian intellectual capital is making use of the latest technological
knowhow to make India proud through self reliance in almost all major sectors of its
development. Some of our breakthroughs in the fields of food and milk production, IT sector,
Neno technology, Chandrayan, Mars Mission, ballistic missile production etc. have already
attracted the world's attention as well as loud appreciation. Manufacturing and Small and
Medium Enterprises Sector (SMES) is also registering an appreciable growth and providing
gainful employment to the millions of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled manpower. Further,
individual entrepreneurship endeavours received boost from the policy support measures taken
by the State. Contribution of this sector is helping in substituting imports with indigenous
production. Though India still has to go a long way to be fully self-reliant, however over a period
of time, Balance of Payment situation of the country has shown positive trend, which is a good
signal for our economy.
In order to accomplish its development agenda, nation needs competent manpower at various
levels, not only to discharge the present set of duties and responsibilities effectively and
efficiently; but also successfully handle the ever growing diverse international changes and
challenges on various fronts. In this context, education being the powerful empowerment tool
for peaceful social transformation has to play a prominent role in translating development
agenda into reality. Academia and the industry, complementing and supplementing each other's
development efforts are to take up this call and produce manpower needed in different domains

marketing and so on and so forth.
