Advanced Facilitation
Aims

Identify your own strengths and 'stretch' goal - and begin to develop skills and strategies to enable
the 'stretch' to occur

Understand and apply knowledge of different learning models to your own facilitation/training context
Practice and acquire new techniques that will assist you in facilitating programs

Target Audience
The Advanced Facilitation workshop is designed for people who already have at least 12 months experience as a facilitator or consultant and who have completed the Certificate IV in TAE.
VET practitioners who will benefit may include:




trainers / educators
facilitators / professional development staff
action researchers and action learning facilitators
team leaders / supervisors and managers in RTOs
those whose VET work includes helping teams and groups to perform more effectively and enjoyably,
and would like to become more effective at it
Workshop Description
Starting from a sound conceptual framework; this workshop builds on your existing facilitation skills and
enriches your experiential techniques.
It includes:






climate setting
engagement and contracting with participants
building a group relationship and maintaining group energy
exploring the role of ice breakers and energisers
observing and diagnosing group process
practicing and reflecting on your micro (eg observing, reflecting)
macro (eg intervening, confronting) facilitation skills
This workshop includes pre and post workshop activities and information to support your learning and
help you apply the workshop skills back in your workplace.

Relevance
The workshop content is relevant to the Standards for RTOs 2015 – trainer and assessor currency.
Standard 1 – Clauses 1.13 to 1.16:
1.16 – The RTO ensure that all trainers and assessors undertake professional development in the
fields of the knowledge and practice of vocational training, learning and assessment including competency based training and assessment.
Also, in the NSW Smart and Skilled Operating Guidelines:
Section 16. Professional Development and continuous improvement….
The Provider must ensure all of its Personnel undertake professional development and continuous improvement and maintain currency of relevant qualifications. The Provider is also
required to implement a continuing professional development policy. The Provider should
refer to the Smart and Skilled Teaching and Leadership Policy as a guide, which is available
at: www.training.nsw.gov.au/smartandskilled/contract_policy.html.
Facilitator: Andrew Schofield
Andrew is a highly experienced trainer, consultant and auditor who has learnt the ins and outs of
Registered and Group Training Organisations from having conducted over 300 audits on behalf of
NSW VETAB between 2002 and 2011, as well as numerous consultancy briefs.
Andrew has been facilitating in his own inimitable style for over twenty years and is the Principal of
his own RTO, ANDSAM TRAINING. He is a lead presenter of internationally recognized Management
Systems Auditor training courses and regularly facilitates a variety of professional development workshops.
Andrew is also an active ‘hands on' consultant specialising in guiding clients in the development, implementation and auditing of management systems to the NVR Standards and CRICOS requirements,
as well as international Standards including ISO9001 for Quality, ISO 14001 for Environment,
ISO31000 for Risk Management and AS3806 for Compliance Programs.
Andrew is RABQSA certified Quality and Environmental Lead Auditor, holds the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110 and is a member of the AITD.
