Grace Episcopal Church “Accepting…sharing…living in GRACE” Holy Eucharist is celebrated Morning, Noon and Night! SUNDAY MORNING at 10:30 am SATURDAY EVENING at 5:30 pm WEDNESDAY at Noon in the Chapel ALL ARE WELCOME! Allelujah! Christ is Risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia! AMAZING GRACE UPDATES APRIL 18/19, 2015 – 3 EASTER A Message from one of our Three “Priest-Musketeers”… Dear Friends: Jackie and I leave for Helena, MT on April 23. We have enjoyed our time at Grace Episcopal Church so much. This is such a vital, vibrant community. Our greatest regret is that we will not be part of the process of welcoming our new priest. But I do have some thoughts about that. Welcoming a new priest is like an adoption process. It is a two-way street. The new priest adopts us. We adopt him or her. How does that work? It begins and continues in prayer. Hold our new rector and family in your hearts before God on a regular basis. Pray especially for the stresses and strains of moving and settling into a new community. Wear your name tag. Our new rector has to learn several hundred names. Picture being in his or her shoes, trying to connect to so many new people. Don't compare our new priest to our past rector or to any of us who have served during the transition. Our new priest will bring unique gifts and skills that we need to celebrate and support. Don't expect perfection. Everybody makes mistakes. Even priests. Even you and me. Remember that we are in "the forgiveness business!" Be positive. Step forward and be encouraging to our new rector. Say, "Let me know how I can help...." Give our new priest some breathing room. The adoption process takes a long time. How long did it take you to bond to Grace and to feel that it was your family through thick and thin? More than a year? Maybe two years? Everybody moves at difference paces. Love our new priest and family. An important way of loving our new rector is making sure he or she gets "down time" for family, prayer, and "re-creation." Even God called the office on the seventh day to let the world know that he was taking a day off! Understand what a rector is called to do. That's summarized in the Book of Common Prayer's service of "Celebrating a New Ministry." Borrow a BCP and read through the liturgy, which starts on page 559. Don't overlook the material on 557, 558, and 564 and 565. Remember that prayer shapes belief. If you want to know more about what a rector is all about, see what we will pray about when we officially welcome him or her. There's also a revised version of this service in the supplement to the BCP called Enriching Our Worship at churchpublishing.org/media/9540/EnrichingOurWorship4.pdf It has been a joy to step forward with the other "Musketeers" during this transition. When we return next winter, Jackie and I look forward to meeting our new priest. Alas, I will be retired again. God bless you always, Steve+ EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER In 1988, the first Thursday in May was designated as the National Day of Prayer. This year, on May 7th, will mark the 2nd time the St. George Interfaith community is joining in the nationwide acknowledgment of the importance of prayer in our lives and in our nation. Sponsored by the Interfaith Council and hosted by DSU, the event will be held in the Gardner Center Ballroom, with a buffet breakfast opening at 7:30 AM and program beginning at 8:15 AM. Pastor Jimi, of Solomon’s Porch Foursquare church, will be the MC, and DSU President Richard Williams will be the keynote speaker. Music provided by the St. George Interfaith Choir, led by Rev. Amy Siefert. Tickets for admission and buffet breakfast are $12, and we are anticipating filling at least one table of 8 with Grace members, in addition to several choir members who will participate in the Interfaith choir. If you would like tickets for the breakfast, please sign up on the appropriate sheet at the back of the church, or call the church office. Choir members – get your tickets at your rehearsal. And, of course, when you have workers, you need gardening tools… Junior Warden Mike Smith requests the donation of used hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hoes and watering hoses. The tools are needed to equip volunteer workers who regularly perform community service at Grace in helping to keep our grounds maintained. FOR THE GENERAL CONVENTION IN SLC (JUN 23-JUL 3, 2015) Plan now to help welcome fellow Episcopalians from around the world to The Episcopal Church General Convention 2015. Bishop Hayashi and the Diocese of Utah cordially invite you and your friends to join in volunteering to make this a memorable convention. There are a wide variety of interesting jobs available – something for everyone – that all are vital parts of supporting the work of the Convention. Assignments can be arranged for as little as one day. Volunteer for 4 hours, 40 hours, or more depending on your availability. If you are interested, get more details from Leo Duncan, the coordinator for volunteers from Grace. Call 435-669-9647. GARDENING HELP – “LAY WEEDERS” The roses in our Memorial Rose Garden survived the winter freeze and are blooming magnificently! And their beauty and health is due in no small part to the hard work of those who volunteer their time to weed, mulch, prune, and do all those little things that “make a garden grow.” The garden is expanding as more bushes are added to celebrate “those we love but see no longer,” and it is taking more time to care for it. If the color of your stole – your gifting – happens to be along the line of a green thumb, and you can give an hour or two a week, we would love to have you join our small group of faithful “lay weeders.” If you wonder what this would involve, talk to Mike Smith or Joanne Cymore. A sign-up sheet is at the back of the church. SUNDAY COFFEE HOUR We still need a few more people to sign up to be part of the Sunday Coffee Hour teams, so that the responsibilities are shared and no one is overburdened. The sign-up sheet is on the counter at the back of the church. Gary and Julie Dotson are the overall coordinators, so they will work with you in assigning you to a team and explaining the protocol. If you have any questions, feel free to call Julie @ 862-2196 or the church office @ 628-1181.
