Bond 2015




Please attend a meeting on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Berkshire Middle School to
discuss the school district’s 2015 bond proposal and how it affects our students and our
community. This important ballot question will be on the May 5, 2015 ballot.
Your Board of Education and administration have spent years preparing for this bond proposal
through strong fiscal stewardship and a dedication to our students. The results of those efforts
are a bond proposal that keeps our current millage rate at 3.9 mills while providing our district
with $66 million in needed funding for instruction spaces, safety and security improvements,
building and site work and technology upgrades. There will be no increase to the district’s debt
millage with this bond proposal.
The March 26 event is hosted by the PTA’s at Berkshire and Derby Middle Schools and
Birmingham Covington School.

Order a custom lawn sign (18" x 24") to congratulate your Senior. Place it in your lawn for graduation
parties, etc. Fill out the order form (see attachment), attach a check and mail it back by May 1st.

Beyond Grades: Finding Balance in the Family
Be sure and mark your calendar for March 31 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. as we present another Beyond Grades program.
This program will be Beyond Grades: finding Balance in the Family. Our speaker will be Julie Fisher of Birmingham
Bloomfield Families in Action. Julie will share with you information about family meetings and rules, competitive parenting,
setting boundaries and finding balance in the family. We will follow the program with a question and answer period.

The Senior All Night Party is May 31st! Please be sure to read all ANP emails, as there will be
updates and special requests being made in order to make this event a huge success! Be sure to
check our "shout out" section at the end of this email and thank those who have shown their support.
If you know of a supporter we may have overlooked, please contact me and I'll be sure to include
them in the next edition.
GRAB A FRIEND AND JOIN US FOR THE DAILEY METHOD FUNDRAISER –
SUNDAY MARCH 29TH 2-4pm
Discover a new and fun way to exercise, enjoy a fun afternoon out, and then get in shape with TWO
more classes. Purchase 3 fitness classes for $45 (100% of the proceeds are given back to the
Senior All Night Party Committee). The Dailey Method is a unique combination of non-impact ballet
barre work, core conditioning, muscle strengthening, yoga, and orthopedic exercises.
First Class – Group Event: Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 2-4p.m. We’ll have a great time in this hour
long class followed by socializing with food and beverages provided by the Senior All Night Party
Committee. Class is limited to 30, first come first served.
Second Class and Third Class – Please see The Dailey Method studio class schedule to attend a
class at your convenience.
A Voucher to attend the 3/29/15 Group Event with 2 extra classes can be purchased from the Groves
High School Front Office, it will be available until Friday, March 27th.
*Special Note: additional Vouchers can be sold but participants must choose three classes (excluding
the group event) for $45.

WHAT IS A SENIOR WISH?
A senior wish is a message to say congratulations and good luck to your favorite graduating senior(s).
WHO CAN SEND A SENIOR WISH?
Anyone can send a senior wish – parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, neighbors, teammates,
coaches, teachers, etc.
WHEN ARE SENIOR WISHES DELIVERED?
Seniors will receive their wishes at the Senior All Night Party on May 31 st. Proceeds from the sale of
the wishes help cover the cost of the All Night Party.

WANTED- A Junior parent or two to oversee the final details of the ANP Sunday afternoon, May 31 st
. Junior parent volunteers enable senior parents to attend the graduation ceremony. Activities

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION
This is a night your student doesn’t want to miss! A list will be posted in the attendance
office. Please ask your son or daughter if their name was on it. The $55 registration fee can be
sent to the ANP mailbox in the office. Make checks payable to ‘Groves PTSA Senior All Night
Party’ and put your student’s name in the memo. If your student didn’t check the list and
you’re not sure if you’ve already paid, please contact Karen Carrick at 248-214-4901 or
[email protected]. Please let us know if your student will not be attending the ANP. For

WE NEED CUTE BABY PICTURES - Shhh – it’s a secret!
We are collecting 2 8x10s - 1 baby picture and 1 senior picture of your senior for a special display in
the halls of Groves during the All Night Party. Any cute picture will do for the baby picture, preferably
before the age of 3. Please put the name of your senior on the back of both pictures. We have a box
at the front office at Groves where we are collecting them – your senior can take it to school and drop
off for you if you’d like. This is a surprise for them, so please don’t let them know much of anything!
We want 100% participation, so we will start hounding you in a month – email, phone calls, you name
it. So, if you would like to save yourself the irritation and guilt, please bring the baby picture in as
soon as possible!

Student News
Band Competes at MSBOA
Congratulations to Mr. Jeff Krum and members of the Groves Bands for successfully competing at
MSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival on Saturday, March 14. Groves Concert Band received an
overall second division rating with a first division in sight reading. Symphony Band achieved an
overall first division rating, achieving A's in all musical categories ranging from intonation to musical
interpretation! Practice made perfect!!! All of these musicians and Mr. Krum are an asset to
Birmingham Public Schools.
Scholastic Art Winner
Please Congratulate Clare Coburn for her Outstanding Achievement in Painting. Clare has received
a Gold Medal for her one of her Oil Paintings in the National Scholastic Art Awards Competition. Her
art will hang in the Gallery of Parsons School of Art and Design and she will be walking across the
stage at Carnegie Hall in NYC to accept her Award from a soon to be announced Celebrity.
There were 52 winners from the Southeastern Michigan area that received Silver Medals and Gold
Medals this year.
Orchestra Competes at MSBOA
This past weekend the Groves Concert and Symphony Orchestras competed in the Michigan School
Band and Orchestra Association’s (MSBOA) District Band and Orchestra Festival held at Walled Lake
Northern HS. Both ensembles worked extremely hard and performed very well!
The Groves Concert Orchestra did a great job and received an overall Division II rating, meeting their
potential that day! The Groves Symphony Orchestra received straight Division I ratings from every
judge!!! This is the highest rating possible! Symphony has received this rating for the last 13 years
consecutively!!! (The best part was Symphony earning their 13th year of straight I’s on Friday the
13th!!!)
We are very proud of our students! Please congratulate them at your earliest convenience.
Groves Forensic Team Competes
On Saturday, March 14 the Groves Forensic team traveled to the University of Michigan for the
Wolverine Tournament. The team placed 1st in the Platinum division (20-35 entries) and had a very
successful tournament for many of the individual performers.

College reps visiting Groves: Nova Southeastern University (FL) on 3/24, US Air Force Academy
on 3/24, Schoolcraft College on 3/25, and U of Arizona on 3/30. Interested juniors and seniors are
invited to attend these meetings. See Mrs. Bodary to register.
Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites you to attend their annual Vet-AVisit Program on Saturday, March 28 from 9 am – 3 pm. Most events are free, but a few are $2 or

Art students and their families are invited to attend the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center
College Day on Saturday, March 21 from 1 – 4 p.m. Meet the college reps and faculty. Learn about
their art programs, art-related careers, applying, and scholarships. The event is free and open to the

The University of St Andrews in Scotland will host an Information Session at Seaholm HS on
Sunday, March 29, from 6:30-8 pm in the Media Centre. Interested sophomores, juniors, and their

Beaumont Health Career Workshops are open to students in grades 10-12 and take place from
February 27 through April 25 at Beaumont Royal Oak and Troy locations. Cost is $25/session. For

Oakland Community College 7th Annual Emergency and Public Services Career Fair will be held on
April 14 from 12 - 4 pm. Agencies represented include: law enforcement, fire, emergency medical,
military, and federal services. A tour of the CREST training facility is also available in the morning.

Oakland University events for prospective students and their parents - Go for the Gold event will take
place on Saturday, March 28 for students to learn about academic program offerings and tour campus.
On Saturday April 18, students can explore health sciences and nursing labs during Human Health

The Joyce Ivy Foundation invites female high school students and their families to attend the College
Admissions Symposium on Saturday, May 16 in Ann Arbor. The Joyce Ivy College Admissions
Symposium (JCAS) is a unique program that brings together talented young women from Midwest high
schools, admissions officers from highly selective colleges and universities, high school college
counselors, and local community volunteers. The event is free and will take place from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District Teaching and Learning Center, 1819 S. Wagner Rd, Ann
