MAY 2015 The President’s Corner As we bid farewell to our snowbirds, I reflect back on a great season at The Gallery. While the rest of the country reeled under snow and cold, we have enjoyed some of the best weather in the country this winter. We donned our school colors for our Season Opener Homecoming scramble. We survived “the plated lunch” on Wednesdays. We competed enthusiastically in the new PLAY AWAY competition, hoping to earn a trip to Cape Cod. We gave generously to support Mobile Meals of Tucson and Honor Flight Southern Arizona. We took our game on the road to play in Catalina Cup, Ironwood Cup and Kachina. We battled – RED vs. BLUE – in the Solheim Cup. It was all fun. The GWGA is an amazing community of women who come together over the love of golf. We cheer, we moan, we win, we lose. But at the end of the day we have made new friends and cemented old friendships. This year I was honored to have been surrounded by such an amazing group of intelligent, talented, hard-‐working and committed women who have provided great leadership for you, our GWGA membership. I know next year’s Board, led by President Laurie Smith and Vice-‐President Barbara Bolton, will continue to serve us all well. Enjoy your summer, wherever you may be. I look forward to seeing all of you in the fall. Sally Herfurth

Interclub Play Outside of the Catalina Cup, we have finished our interclub play for the season. Thanks to all players and chairpersons who participated. Without each of you, these events wouldn’t be possible. As I’ve said before, we have such an awesome group of women in GWGA! May 6th the Gallery will host Catalina Cup and on May 11th the final event will be played at Mountain View/Preserve. Next year we will, once again, use Foretees to sign-‐up for all interclub events. MAY 2015 Community Campaigns Spring Fund Raiser and annual event 3 Jills & A Jack was a huge success. Thanks to the generosity of the golfers, non-‐golfers and the volunteers, we raised $13,503. Plus a $10,000 donation was made from an anonymous donor totaling our dollars raised to $23,503!! WOW!! Our GWGA organization is the most generous women’s organization around. Our charity this year was Honor Flight Southern Arizona. Your participation and donations are sending 23 WWII Veterans on a three day trip to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials dedicated to their military service. These men and women changed our world -‐ Our Greatest Generation! Many thanks goes to Mr. Carl Hankwitz for capturing all of the fun we had that day. Event pictures can be seen on the GWGA website. We are so grateful to each of you for making our annual charity event another great success. It's wonderful to be able to help those in need! Barbara Bolton, Darlene Vanderloos & Robin
