website JUNE 2015 NEWSLETTER
JUNE 2015
June is going to be a very busy month for our Harrison
community. We hope to see you at our annual barbecue on
June 4th. Please see details later in this newsletter.
Our Kindergarten students will be having their
Splash Day at Harrison on June 16th and the
Graduation and celebration
for the Senior Kindergarten
students on the 24th of June. Both Junior
and Senior Kindergartens will participate
and share some special singing for their
parents.
All students are looking forward to Play Day
on June 19th. The Theme this year will be the
Pan Am Games. Please remember to send
sunscreen, hat, and labeled water bottles.
Please remember to label these items with your
child’s name.
Harrison will experience some changes next
year as we say good-bye to Mrs. Rauch and
Mrs. Everett who are both retiring after a
combined 50 years in teaching. We wish
them all the best. Our staff and students will
miss their wisdom.
We wish Ms. Hughes the best as she moves on to teach
Kindergarten in a school in Milton for next year. As well,
Ms. Kalisz will not be returning to Harrison. We wish her
well as she moves to her new school in Milton.
Welcome to Mr. Orr, Ms. Olver and
Mrs. Miller who will be joining our staff
at Harrison next year.
Late Students at Harrison P.S.
We are noticing that we have an increase in
the number of late students. We ask that you
make every attempt to get your child to school
on time each day. Students who are late miss
the morning routines in their classroom and
instructional time.
If you wish to speak to the teacher after school has started
please leave a message at the office for the teacher and
they will arrange an appointment in order not to disturb
instructional time. Thank you for your consideration in
this matter.
Cashless Schools
In order to attempt to get more parents to
use CashlessSchools to pay for pizza, milk subs, field trips
and fundraisers, we are going to have a Class Pizza Party
for classes who have the largest percentage of Cashless
purchases during the months of September and October.
This will involve pizza and cookies for the entire class.
We would like to encourage everyone who currently uses
cash or cheques to try cashless. It doesn’t involve a credit
card at all. You simply register with cashless schools,
transfer money from your bank account into your cashless
account, and then shop for what you would like to
purchase for your child. It is very much like shopping on
line, offering the same convenience. Register over the
summer and then your account is all set up for the new
school year! CashlessSchools.com. Call Centre is available
24/7 at 1-866-231-3322.
Sunscreen/Water
As recess and physical education classes
often take place outside during the nice
weather, please send your child to school
wearing sunscreen and a hat. We also
encourage a water bottle with their name
on it.
Volunteer Tea
The Volunteer Appreciation Tea will be held on
Friday, June 12th in the library from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.
Invitations have been sent out. Please R.S.V.P . if you have
not done so already.
Our classes begin promptly at 8:45 and
students should be in class by that time. If you are late we
ask that you sign your child in, and then have them walk to
their class on their own or a buddy may be sent to meet
them.

Track and Field
On June 2nd, we will have our Harrison
Track and Field meet. All students in Grades
2, 3, 4, and 5 will participate in a variety of
events: Ball Throw, Long Jump, 75m, 100m,
200m, and 400m. It will be very exciting to
see so many students together, encouraging each other,
while trying their best in their chosen events.
A team of grade 3, 4, and 5 students will be chosen to
represent Harrison at the North Halton Track and Field
Meet. If your child is selected for this team, a permission
form will be sent home. The meet will take place at Craig
Kielburger High School in Milton, on June 10th.
School Council
Relay
Ms. Harness, Ms. Burke and Mrs. Everett
would like to congratulation all relay team
members for their dedication to training over
the past few weeks. On Thursday, May 21st
the teams competed in Burlington. The
weather was outstanding and the track fast.
All teams competed well and a special
mention goes to the Grade 5 girls team who placed 4th
overall out of 32 teams.
Congratulations Harrison Husky Relay Teams!
On June 4th, we will be having our BBQ
and Movie Night at Harrison. Please
indicate your attendance on the form
which has been sent home. (All proceeds
from the BBQ and basket raffle will be
going toward the arts and technology
upgrades at Harrison.)
Crazy Hair Day!
On Friday, May 15th, we had a Spirit Day “Crazy Hair
Day!” Everyone enjoyed seeing all the hair creations.
Harrison’s Got Talent
At 6:00 p.m. the BBQ will begin. Please remember to
bring your lawn chairs, bug spray and blankets. We will
be showing the movie, “Big Hero 6” around 8:30 p.m.
If you are able to volunteer for the BBQ on June 4, please
contact [email protected].
The show will be on Wednesday, June 3rd. The dress
rehearsal will take place at 1:45 p.m. for students to watch.
At 7:00 p.m. the evening performance will take place for
parents, grandparents and family members to attend. You
will not require a ticket, however, we ask that you bring in
a nonperishable food item for the Georgetown Food Bank.
Students who are performing are
required to be at the school by 6:30 p.m. sharp. Please meet
in the music room before the show.
The baskets are looking spectacular…
Thank you to all parents who have
contributed to the basket raffle prizes.
Tickets will be sold at the BBQ: 1 for
$3.00, 2 for $5.00, and an arm length
for $10.00.
Harrison’s
School Council has accomplished so much this year for
all of the students at Harrison. Parents, with your
fundraising help, we have finished the technology
upgrades that we began last year and now we have data
projectors, white boards and computers for all of the
classrooms. This year we finished the Kindergarten
rooms. School Council funded “Junglesport” climbing for
the students, updated the physical education equipment
for all grades and refurbished the uniforms for our
students running for Relays, Cross Country and Track
and Field. We appreciate the contributions of time and
energy and for the support of all who fundraised for the
many initiatives. Our students’ benefit from your
commitment to making Harrison a great place to learn
and participate in school life.

Author Visit—Ruth Ohi
On May 21st author and illustrator Ruth Ohi visited Harrison
to talk to us about the process of writing and illustrating picture books. Her presentation was very engaging and she
entertained the students with her wonderful drawings and story ideas. At the end of her presentation the students
were given an opportunity to create their own illustrations. Their creativity & imagination amazed us all!
