HONOURS APPLICATIONS FOR 2016
1. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
a) The general regulations of the university with respect to the Honours degree apply mutatis
mutandis to this degree.
b) Students must hold a B.A. (Human Movement Science) degree or equivalent qualification
or must be about to complete the qualification during 2015. Incomplete modules are
disqualifying!
c) Students must pass the selection process.
2. PROCEDURE
1. Current UFS students:
The following documents must be included in the application:
• Dept. of Exercise and Sport Sciences application form
• Official study record (including 1st semester of your third year)
• CV
• Identity photo
• DV3 form (does NOT need to be signed by the programme director, as the form can
only be signed once a student has completed their current degree)
2. Students from other universities and UFS students who have discontinued their
studies (i.e. not studied at the UFS for a year or more):
All the above mentioned documents under point 1 above (except for the DV3 form) and an
application for admission to the UFS.

No applications will be accepted at the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences.

a) Students applying for Biokinetics: In the first round approximately twenty to thirty
students will be selected purely on academic performance. The selected students may
then be requested to attend an interview on the date indicated. UFS students must
undergo psychometric tests (at their own expense) before applying. Contact Petro Herbst,
tel. no. 051 4012853 for an appointment. Students from other universities will be required
to undergo psychometric tests (at their own expense) on the date of interview at the UFS.
An administration fee of R300 for the tests is payable to Kovsie Counselling.
Interviews are held selectively with candidates from whom additional information is
desired. If a candidate’s name does not appear on the interview list, this does not imply
that a candidate has not been selected or has been selected. All candidates must wait until
the announcement day to determine if they have been selected or not.
b) Students from the other study areas are selected on academic performance and
interviews. A minimum of five candidates are required before an area of specialisation will
be offered.
c) Visit the Departmental website on a regular basis for news regarding the results of the
selection and the upcoming interviews. The final list of selected students will be placed on
the Departmental notice board and website ( www.ufs.ac.za/ess ).

* Students who need to complete a UFS application form for 2016 have an earlier application closing date due to the
administrative process that needs to take place to input the application onto the University system. Late applications
will not be processed in time and will therefore not be able to be taken into consideration for selection.

4. INTERVIEWS
Interviews may be requested and will be conducted at the Department. All travel and
accommodation expenses must be covered by the candidates. Candidates must report to the
following lecturers at the designated times and venues that will be displayed on the website:
Biokinetics: Dr M.C. Opperman
Sport Science: Dr M.W. Brüssow
Kinderkinetics: Me M. de Milander
Recreation and Tourism: Prof. H.J. Bloemhoff
The interview schedule will be displayed on the website on the date indicated in point 3.
5. ANNOUNCEMENT OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES:
A list of the successful candidates will be displayed on the Department’s notice board as well
as on the website on the designated date. The Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences
does not inform a candidate in writing of the result of the selection process.
