Doing all you can to have a
healthy lifestyle
Everyone gets busy with day-today life and often we put
ourselves and our health to the
side. However, investing in your
own health should be at the top
of your list. How can you be a
good spouse, parent, friend, or
employee if you don’t have your
health? There are important
things each of us should do at
every age bracket to live
healthier, happier, and longer
lives. It’s the little things now
that will make a big difference
in your future health.
What is your Overall
Wellness Score?
When you participated in your
screening you were given a
personal Overall Wellness Score
(OWS). Results can be
reviewed by visiting the
HealthFitness website and
clicking “My Health” to find
your Health Summary. How
does your OWS compare to the
Cooper Standard average noted
in the side bar to the left? Do
you have risk factors you
should address?
Do you have a personal
physician?
Having a personal physician and
taking advantage of the free
annual physical covered under
our medical plans is an
important step in prevention.
Working directly with a doctor
that knows you and understands
your history is critical to staying
healthy and managing medical
conditions that you may have.
To find a provider, work through
Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS)
to identify a physician in your
network and to review their
credentials and location. Visit
the website at www.bcbsm.com
or call BCBS Customer Service
at 1-866-753-8120.
Schedule recommended
screenings and tests
To stay healthy and prevent
future illnesses, be sure to
follow age & gender medical
recommendations for
screenings and tests. Most of
these are covered at 100%
under our medical plans.
Discuss recommendations
with your doctor and get your
screenings scheduled.

Your Road to Health Success Story
Have you explored the Health Action Guides?
Location – Spartanburg
There are 44 different Health Action Guides available to you on
your HealthFitness website. These are engaging resources that you
can read online, download, or print.
Visit the HealthFitness website and go to the Tools &
Resources section as shown below.
Studies show that a
person may try to
quit smoking
4-5 times before
being successful.
Employee – Vickie Williams
Vickie Williams took advantage of the mobile mammography event
conducted at Cooper Standard’s Spartanburg location and credits it
with saving her life. The company’s wellness program made it easy
for her to attend without leaving work. Vickie states – “I probably
would not have had the preventive mammogram screening if I had
to make an appointment on my own somewhere else and miss
time from work to attend”.
Vickie’s mobile mammography screening showed what everyone
dreads to hear – cancer. However, because it was found early, it
was able to be treated. Vickie has finished radiation and plans to
live a happy and full life due to her early detection and treatment.
Did you try already?
Maybe now is the
time to try again?
Vickie’s advice to others: “Just do it. Get your preventive
screenings so if they find cancer there is time to treat it.” The
Cooper Standard medical plan covers all preventive screenings at
100% so even if you don’t have the added convenience of having
screenings done at your worksite, make the time to get your
Cancer screenings completed.

Take Breaks from Sitting
More and more research is finding that prolonged sitting is linked to
many different health problems, including heart disease, diabetes,
and some types of cancer. This is true even for people who are
physically active on a regular basis. If you find yourself sitting at
your desk or in front of the computer for hours at a time, try
scheduling brief walking breaks into your day or even just stand up
for a minute or two.
Do you have a success story? Every employee and spouse is
eligible to submit a success story. Obtain the submission form from
your Wellness Champion or from hrsolutions.cooperstandard.com.
A $50 gift card will be awarded to the participant whose story
is featured.
TOTAL SAFETY Corner
During spring cleaning this year, home safety
should be at the top of your “to-do” list.
Spring cleaning often involves lifting heavy items,
climbing ladders, using strong cleaning solvents,
and other activities that can put you at risk of
serious injury if you are not careful.
Prevent injuries by taking the time to follow safety
precautions at all times.
