the new concept of custom power. Conventional power quality mitigation improving to be inadequate for an increasing number of
applications and this fact has attracted the attention of power engineers to develop dynamic and adjustable solutions to power quality
problems. This has led to development of various Custom Power Devices (CPD’s) like Distribution Static Compensator
(DSTATCOM), Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR), Unified Power Quality Compensator (UPQC). It is aimed at providing a broad
perspective on the status of compensating devices in electric power distribution system to researchers and application Engineers

Grid integration of distributed generation is expected to play an important role in the future electricity market, due to the increasing
demand of power. With properly designed control, islanding can increase the reliability of the grid. Extensive researches are going on
to design suitable the control schemes and algorithms for control and transition of DG systems in grid connected and islanding modes.
But most of them analyze the performance on a single DG source assuming grid as a stiff balanced source. But the present
distribution systems are characterized by their unbalanced and polluted nature due to the load uncertainties and the presence of
nonlinear loads. The performance of the algorithms designed for a balanced system might not be efficient with an unbalanced
structure. In this regard, designing proper control strategies for supporting micro grid operations in a weak unbalanced grid invite
considerable study.
