The Visitor - Immanuel Lutheran Church
April 2015
The Visitor
From the Pastor
Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen
the Lord”; and she told them that he had said these things to her.
[John 20:18]
Do not hold on to me, was one of the things he said to her. Go, was
another; and my God and your God still another. That Sunday early
morning started with a lack of recognition; Mary mistook the risen
Lord Jesus for the gardener. But then he called her by name: Mary!
And her eyes were opened, her confusion swept away. This month
at Immanuel, we will share some moments aimed at helping us have
something of the same experience.
April’s first Sunday ushers in Easter with the joy and celebration of
the Resurrection. Christ is risen; he is risen indeed! When you read
John’s account of that first Easter, you notice that the one thing he
doesn’t say is Rejoice! But rejoice we do! From Mary Magdalene to
this very day, the good news of Easter is the very heart of our faith,
the source of our hope, and the font of all Christian love.
Our rejoicing continues the following Sunday, as three of our young
people, Jainna Marcinczyk, Avry Marcinczyk, and Brandon Fletter
come to the altar to receive the body and blood of Christ at their first
Holy Communion during the 10:30 service. A special reception for
the new communicants follows in Borchert Hall. A similar reception
will follow the 10:30 Holy Communion on Sunday, April 19, when
we will recognize and thank our devoted office administrator,
Mauree Ward. Please make a point to support these members and
friends with your presence and prayers!
Sunday, April 26 finds us led in worship (a single service at 10:30)
by our Youth Group, as we observe World Water Sunday, and again
urge your offerings for our Sunday School water project, for which
the goal is a $600 family water system. ILYG (find and “like” them
on Facebook!) have agreed to provide this leadership, as Pr.
Steinway will be in Honduras with the Synod mission team that
week.
So you see, there is much to celebrate this month at Immanuel. And
it all begins with the good news that Christ is Risen! Alleluia!

Honest Conversations with Muslim Neighbors
Sunday, April 12, 2 p.m.
First Church of Chirst, (Porter Hall 75 Main St. Farmington
What do they believe? What has been their experience as a result of extremist actions in the world?
Four Muslim neighbors from the Hartford area will share their experiences and respond to our questions such as:
Why don’t we hear moderate Muslims speaking out against extremism? Why do some girls and women wear
Muslim dress and other do not? What does the Qur’an really say about Christians, Jew and memberos of other
faiths? American Muslims don’t have all the answers but they will respond about issues that concern them as
well as us. Together we can think about promoting a more peaceful world.
