GHANAIAN-GERMAN CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIES,
PhD PROGRAMME IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
The Ghanaian-German Centre of Excellence for Development Studies is a collaborative venture between the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research
(ISSER), University of Ghana and the Centre for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, Germany. The Centre is being funded by the
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under the Centres of Excellence for Teaching and Research to Train Future Leaders in Sub-Saharan
Africa Initiative.
Applications are hereby invited from qualified persons for a 4-Year Full-time PhD Programme in Development Studies beginning August 2015.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
1. First degree (at least Second Class Lower Division) and
2. A relevant Masters’ (MA/MSc/MPhil) degree in the Social Sciences/Humanities.
Limited Scholarships from DAAD are available to young and dynamic graduates with a relevant Masters’ Degree (MA/MSc/MPhil) awarded within
the last 6 yearswhose academic and scholastic records show a potential for successful completion of doctoral degree programme.

Purchase e-vouchers from any branch of Fidelity Bank, GCB, Zenith Bank, Ecobank, Universal Merchant Bank, UniBank, HFC Bank and ADB and
apply online (see the University’s website – www.ug.edu.gh for details). The fee (non-refundable) for the e-voucher is GHc 130.

All applicants are expected to pay to the University a non-refundable application processing fee of US$110.00. This fee can be paid directly or wire transferred

1. The pay-in-slips together with applicants’ certificates, transcripts, research proposal (not more than 10 pages), and CV showing academic
and work experience should be scanned and attached to the application form before submission. The attachments should be scanned into one
PDF or WORD document and attached to the application. Regarding the research proposal, the proposed PhD thesis topic must be formulated
in reference to the crosscutting research themes of ISSER (visit isser.edu.gh for details).
Note that no application will be processed without proof of payment of the application fee.
