We are very excited about the upcoming Centennial Celebration
of Seminole Elementary. In 2015, Seminole Elementary will
celebrate its one hundredth year as a continuously operating
Pinellas County School. Seminole is now the oldest elementary in
Pinellas County! We are making plans for a big celebration on
May 2, 2015. If you would like to help with planning the
celebration or if you have pictures or stories of the history of our
wonderful school you would like to share, please contact me. We
are working with the City of Seminole and other Seminole
organizations to plan a city wide celebration. Make plans now to
attend on May 2, 2015!
Cato’s Corner
Dear Families,
Thank you so much for your support of Seminole
Elementary throughout this school year. The end of the
year is always a bittersweet time as we celebrate all of
the accomplishments your children have made over the
year while at the same time knowing some of our
students are moving on to new adventures in their
educational journey.
We want to say congratulations and best of luck to our
fifth graders as they move on to middle school. We
know they will do well but we will miss them! Fifth
graders come back and visit anytime as you will always
be a part of the Seminole Elementary family.
To our students and families who are moving away to
other places and other schools, thank you for being a
part of our Seminole family. We wish you all of the
very best in your new journeys. Remember you will
always have a home here at Seminole, so keep in touch!
Make sure your children spend some time every day
reading over the summer. This will pay big dividends
next year. Students can use Ticket to Read throughout
the summer. It’s a really fun and powerful reading
program. Encourage your child to read, read, read and
win as many tickets as possible. Students may also
continue to use ST Math through July. Teachers have
assigned all of the grade level objectives so students
may complete anything they did not get a chance to
finish.
Have a wonderful summer filled with family, friends,
and books! See you in August.
The school year ends on June 4, 2014.
Pinellas County School policy does not
allow us to send medication home with
students or store it over the summer.
Please arrange to come to school to pick up
any unused medication, including inhalers
and Epi-Pens.
Any unclaimed medications will be disposed
of on Wednesday June 4, 2014 at 03:00
p.m. without exception.

Lona Knellinger
Mrs. Knellinger began teaching in January, 1992, and has been at
Seminole Elementary the entire time. When she started, Mrs.
Knellinger taught students with Specific Learning Disabilities
(SLD). She was excellent at determining the individual needs of a
child and helping them develop strategies so they could reach their
highest potential. Her care and gentleness helped many students,
who had been stuck spinning their wheels, move forward to a
brighter future. In the midst of her career, Pinellas County decided
students no longer needed self-contained classes for SLD, and
they moved those students into general education classrooms.
Mrs. Knellinger never missed a beat. She enrolled in college,
again, and took the courses necessary to teach students with
emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD). Her compassion and
dedication led her to reach out to students with severe behavior
problems, teach them strategies to control their emotional and
anger issues, and focus on academic growth. The students with
Mrs. Knellinger thrived. Non-readers began to read. They began
to enjoy school. Their solid academic foundation enabled them to
become lifelong learners. Beginning last year, Mrs. Knellinger also
enlisted the help of her therapy dog, Bella. Having Bella in the
room brings calmness. Student read to her, and she is always
ready for a gentle hug for encouragement.
In her 22 years at Seminole Elementary, Mrs. Knellinger has
touched the lives of many students. The hard work, love, and
dedication has provided these students with a good academic
foundation, as well as strategies to work through problems, make
good choices, and live a better life. The staff will miss her support
and friendship.
Sandi Brand
Goodbye Mrs. Brand!!
It is the end of an era….after twenty one years of teaching, our
beloved Speech teacher, Mrs. Brand, will be leaving Seminole
Elementary. Officially, she is retiring, but as many of you know,
she does not know how to “retire” and will be keeping herself
busy – spending time with Mr. Brand, painting, traveling, writing
a book and maybe even getting involved in medical research.
Mrs. Brand will be missed by everyone here at Seminole as she
is leaving a legacy of love and empowerment for every student
she came in contact with in her many years here. Every child
who walked through her door or had her come into their room
were told they were “the best kids on campus” and she instilled
in them confidence to be a success as a communicator and in
life! So, if you see her around, give her a big hug and let her
know she will be missed!
We Wish You the Best Mrs. Brand – We Love You and Will Miss
You!!
Francine Clegg
Connie Cordisco/Gravelle
Seminole Elementary will never be the same without you!
You have the best personality with children, they adore
you. The evidence of this is the art they produce (especially
the ones that depict Mrs. Gravelle, herself). You pull the
best and most creativity out of Seminole Elementary
students.
The staff and teachers will miss you terribly. You always
put smiles on our faces. Your humor keeps us going when
we are faced with the challenges of our profession.
Amanda DeVega
Mrs. DeVega served as the Seminole Elementary Family
and Community Liaison this year. Many of you got to know
her through her role as volunteer coordinator. She also
worked to bring more business and community support to
our school and has done an outstanding job.
Mrs. DeVega is leaving this position to spend more time
with her family. She will be really missed in the front office
and throughout the school but, since her children are
students here, we know we will be fortunate to still have
her around!
We all love Mrs. Clegg! She has been an intricate part of
our Kindergarten team for a number of years. Not only
has she taught hundreds of students over the years but
has touched the lives and hearts of those students'
families. Although it is her time to move on to retirement
and take time for herself and her family, she will always
be remembered by her other family at Seminole
Elementary.
Congratulations Mrs. Clegg! We love you! The
