Congratulations! New session, new friends and new books have already taken their place in this new
academic session…….. And now it’s time for a long vacation!!!!!!!! Summer vacation beckons you
to freak out, have fun, fast food and of course savor a large dollop of lazy time. However all play and
no work can make you lag behind. So the answer is to plan a balanced vacation in a sensible manner
with a little of everything lest you get carried away and the books and mind gather dust. We know
you are disciplined enough to effectively juggle your time between the idiot box, Apps mania, and
social networking….. Have a wonderful time and cherish the memories of being with friends and
family!!!!
Some pointers for students to follow:





Plan your vacations that you promptly attend school on the first day.
Manage your time and dispense the work for quick completion.
Do not hustle yourself at the last minute.
Be independent and honest in doing your work.
Pick up a new activity for leisure time.
ENGLISH
1. COMIC STRIP ILLUSTRATION (Roll No.:1-8)
Turn the Novel into a Comic! Read ‘Midnight’s Children’ by Salman Rushdie in your
holidays. Based on your reading of the novel, design a ‘Comic Strip Illustration’ of the same.
Much like comic books with a panel of presentation and text within the image panel, retell the
story of Midnight’s Children through graphics and text in the form of a bubble. Follow the
instructions given below.
General Instructions: The following work is to be done on white/colored pastel sheets.
 It is advisable to use A3 size sheets.
 Each sheet should have more than one comic strip.
 Your pictorial representation is like a brief summary and should present only the main scenes
from the novel in form of a comic.
 Your ‘Comic Strip Illustration’ should have six pages with the first page being the cover page
showing the title and the author‘s name. Design and beautify the cover page with your
illustration related to the theme of novel.
For example: The first scene showing the birth of Shiva and Salim and Salim‘s childhood
conversation with his grandfather can be showcased on the first page along with some more
comic strips related to the novel.
2. POETIC ZEPHYRS(Roll No.:9-16)
From the following poets select one pair and choose any one of the following activities

3. PAPER BACK APPRAISAL (Roll No. :17-24)
Prepare a book appraisal of any paperback that you have read during the summer
vacation.
You must include:
a) the name of the book
b) the writer
c) the important characters
d) a very brief outline of the book
e) why the book was worth reading/ not worth reading.
4. LITERARY ANALYSIS (Roll No. 25-32)
Prepare an analysis on life, literary style literary achievements and historical background
of any one of the following authors:
a. Shakespeare
b. William Blake
c. P.B.Shelley
Also write the summary of any play or poem by the author of your choice.
5. FILM /BOOK REVIEW (Roll No.:33-40)
BASED ON THE NOVEL, “LIFE OF PI” BY YANN MARTEL
Read the book “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel. Based on the reading of the book, do the following
activity:
Q. Design a print campaign to publicize the book Life of Pi. You must create, and present at least
three separate posters, each of which should focus on a different major element of the story. Be sure
to include a minimum of 3 separate, original posters. The posters must be designed on A3/A4-sized
white/colored sheets. It is important that each poster must:
 Reflect a different element of the story.
 Convey themes and images from the story.
 Have a paragraph on the reverse side of the poster explaining what inspired you to design
it.

1) Take a board of any dimension. Design a township of your choice in such a way that 85% of the
total area is green in it. You can make the use of different cuboidal boxes to make buildings.
Also plan to have a swimming pool, park, jogging track, shopping complex and kid’s zone in it.
Find the surface area of different shapes in it and present this information on a file separately..
2) December 22 is celebrated as a Maths day. Find out the reason behind it. Write the contributions
made by that person in the field of Mathematics. Present this information either through a file
work or by power point presentation.
3) Watch the ongoing IPL-8 tournament and express the different information’s through a bar
graph, histogram and a pie chart on a scrap notebook. Also write the advantages of presenting the
information through these graphs or chart.
4) List down the differences between rational and irrational numbers on a scrap file and represent
them on a number line. Insert some rational and irrational numbers between two rational or
irrational numbers. How will you define π? Find the value of it upto 50 decimal places. Is it a
rational or an irrational number? Give reason in support of it.
5) Find out some information on Vedic Mathematics. List the role of some Indian Mathematicians
in this regard. How Vedic Mathematics can be used to solve complicated problems or to make
calculations simpler. Learn some tricks and Present them either through a PPT or in a scrap file.
6) How similar and congruent figures are different from each other. Mention some natural similar
and congruent figures. Explain them with the help of different figures and diagrams. List
different ways of proving different triangles to be congruent or similar. Can we say all similar
figures are congruent and vice versa. Explain by giving different examples. Present it either
through a PPT or in a scrap file.
7) Make a model of a Robot using different used boxes present at your home. Try to use different
Mathematical figures like cube, cuboid, cone, sphere, hemisphere etc. for it. Also find the
volume and the total surface area of the different parts used in the construction of Robot.
8) Make a model of clinometers or sextant. Explain with the help of a diagram that how it can be
used to find the height of any tower or a building. Also find out the values of different
mathematical ratios for 00, 300, 450, 600 and 900. Make a table of it, write them in a file and learn
them.
9) Make a three dimensional model depicting X,Y and Z axes, dividing the space
into eight parts. What are the values of x, y and z axis in each quadrant.
10) Correlate Maths and different sports. Make a project on how mathematics is used in various
sports. How it can be used to enhance the performance of a player or an athlete. Present this
information through a file work.

4. GAMIFICATION :
Making learning fun motivates students and helps them pay attention and stay focused on the
subject. Educational games encourage students to learn with fun .Games bring increased
engagement and enthusiasm . So why not use our indoor game to study chemistry .

holiday destination too. Select good pictures from the ones, you have captured and make your
own photo album using biodegradable materials, give them catchy captions.

9. Have you ever considered becoming a science reporter or a science journalist? If, yes
…listen to your instincts and make a science magazine including two articles based on new age
development or discoveries considering any field of biology. You can also support your articles
with the relevant pictures.
