What does it mean to be God’s people? It means we
recognize that everything we have and everything we are
belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are
merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given us. It means
we are willing to use our gifts and our lives to care for our
neighbors and the world, just as God cares for us.

One of the most important decisions a parent faces is their
child(ren)’s education. At ACS, we provide academics that
rival the best local public schools, and we offer
a significant "plus" of religious, moral, and spiritual
development instilled in everything we do, every day. We
create a special bond among the students, parents, school,
and the church, so that we all share our strong sense of
community.

Are you living with infertility? Or, are you living with the
loss of a baby due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or

not alone and there are others that are going through
similar situations or have in the past. That is why we will
be facilitating a four-week support group for both women
and men. Following the faith-based bereavement "In
Loving Remembrance" we will learn about each others'
journeys and in turn, how to move forward. There will be
four weekly meetings on Tuesday, beginning March 17. If
you are interested in attending or have any questions,
please call Jean Hinman in the office 681-3348, Lisa
Kopp 438-2904 or Jamie Mullane 952-8217.

TRE ORE GOOD FRIDAY
April 3, Noon-3:00PM
Church
Please join us for Tre Ore on Good Friday. Tre Ore or “Three Hours” refers to the three hours that Christ hung on the Cross on
that first Good Friday. We will begin with Stations of the Cross at 11:30am, and Tre Ore will be from Noon to 3:00pm,
preceding our 3:00pm Good Friday Service. COME WHEN YOU CAN, LEAVE WHEN YOU MUST.
Ascension’s Tre Ore service is a form of Devotion to Christ in honor of His three hours of Agony for us. It includes the Way of
the Cross at 11:30am, Reflections on the Seven Last Words of Christ, along with appropriate hymns, music and periods for silent
prayer. Feel free to bring your bibles, and any other devotional items that you may like to enhance your prayer time. Let us
gather at the foot of the cross and allow Christ’s seven last statements from the Cross speak directly to our hearts.
EMHC’S NEEDED FOR
HOSPITALS, HOMBOUND
AND ASSISTED LIVING CENTERS
EASTER EGG HUNT
April 4, 10:00AM
Parish Grounds
We are looking for parishioners to serve parishioners! We
have St Luke’s Hospital, the homebound and several
assisted living facilities within our parish and we need
some loving souls (YOU!) to bring Jesus to. Most
EMHC’s serve in one of the three areas one day a month.
We do a Communion Service at least once a week in the
assisted living facilities, visit individuals at least two times
a week and bring daily Communion to the hospital. The
requirements for being an EMHC are that you love to share
Communion, love people and have been through (or will
go through the next time it’s offered) training to be an
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Ascension.
Please prayerfully consider helping in this ministry once a
month or more often if you like. Contact Jean in the office
with interest or questions, [email protected] or
681-3348.
All parishioners and ages welcome! Please see page 11 for
additional information.

The promise made by the Lord in the first reading is very
bold. He says that all people shall know him, without
having to be taught by others. He doesn’t restrict the
promise to only the holiest people: He says that the way
people will know Him is through forgiveness of their sins.
Remember, he is speaking to the Israelites, who had so
many laws and commandments, they needed scribes and
Pharisees to keep track of them. When they broke a
commandment or law, they were isolated from the
community. So the promise that God would place his law
in their hearts meant they would be free to do God’s will
because they want to, not because they were feared
punishment or rejection.
Jesus says something similar in today’s gospel. He tells the
disciples that his crucifixion would draw everyone to him.
Now, Jesus’ death showed that he took on the punishment
for sins in place of us, who deserve it. In Luke’s gospel he
even prays for those who crucified him, asking God’s
forgiveness. (Lk 23:34) By dying on the cross, Jesus shows
how much God loves us. By rising from the dead, he shows
that we can rise from sin to a new life of faith and love.
Getting back to the first reading, we experience that
promise when we bring our sins to God. When we forgive
people who have hurt us, we also help them to experience
that love. After all, if I can forgive someone, surely God
will forgive them. We also help others to know God when
we share or experience of being forgiven. Still not sure if
God has forgiven you? The sacrament of Reconciliation
gives us the assurance of God’s forgiveness, as well as the
experience. Along with the other sacraments, it helps us
keep God’s love in our hearts.

INSURANCE REASONS NO ONE UNDER THE AGE
OF 18 IS PERMITTED IN THE KITCHEN OR
DESSERT PREPARATION AREA.
Juan Ana Coffee - Supports International Missions
For sale in the parish office anytime! Juan Ana Coffee is
part of San Lucas Mission in Guatemala. It is “direct
trade” coffee, which ensures that producers (workers) earn
a fair price for their product, are included in the decision
making process, and are treated with respect and dignity.
By supporting Juan Ana Coffee, or any other fair trade
products, we are keeping with the pillars of Catholic Social
Teaching. Pope Paul VI said, “Let each one examine his
conscience…is he prepared to support, out of his own
pocket, works and undertakings in favor of the most
destitute? Is he ready to pay a higher price for imported
goods so that the producer may be more justly rewarded?”
So, tomorrow or this morning, when you are brewing your
coffee, take a minute to think about the people you have
impacted by buying fair trade or direct trade coffee.

Easter Egg Hunt
The annual church-wide Easter Egg Hunt will be held
Saturday, April 4, at 10:00am on the field behind the
church. In the event of rain, the hunt will be located in the
lower level of the church. We will stagger the hunting by
age group, and we will have a special appearance by the
Easter Bunny!
Summer SOR (June 15-26) - Registrations going on at
kcascension.org.
Vacation Bible School Registrations begin April 1 (also
need lots of volunteers).
Year I and Year II Stewardship Activities are due next
month.
Spring Book Study
This spring, we will be reading Made for More by Curtis
Martin, and discussing it at the monthly meetings. We will
discuss Chapters 5 and 6 at the April meeting. Books are
for sale on the Lighthouse Media kiosk in the Gathering
Space or contact Anna Schuster at [email protected]
to purchase a book for $4.00.
OLD CELL PHONES!
If you have old cell phones in your cabinets or drawers,
please consider donating them to Ascension for recycling.
We collect and send them to be redistributed to domestic
violence shelters, senior centers, neighborhood watch
programs, school crossing guards and other agencies with
an immediate need for 911 access. They take the phones,
inspect them, erase any old data, clean them, change the
batteries, and reprogram them to be used as 911 emergency
phones. (Emergency 911 calls are free nationwide.) Please
donate only the phone and battery, no chargers or other
accessories. The collection box is in the cabinet behind the
bulletin boards in the gathering area marked “Social
Concerns,” for you to drop off donations. Call Jean in the
church office with any questions at 681-3348.
Moms at Mass
Come join us the first Friday of every month at noon Mass.
It’s a great way to expose our little ones to Mass! We will
be sitting either in the cry room or the pews directly in
front.
